More Violence Against 'Emos' Reported In Mexico; Video Available

LA Weekly's Daniel Hernandez reports on his blog Intersections that a bizarre wave of mob emo-bashings ("emos" are followers of the "emo" subculture, which is short for "emotional") is sweeping across Mexico. According to Hernandez, "The movement is being generated on message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude. The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some. The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There's also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere." Read more of Hernandez's report here. My initial feeling reading this article was how wrong the violence is, but when I saw the clip it got me all riled up with those ridiculous hair-dos. I wanted to pummel them myself. It's all about 10 on 1...streets have mostly been about that...and unfortunately that has not changed.

It is depressing to see how little human society has evolved when mob metality is so easily invoked. Violence is not a joke.
While one can't help but laugh at the emo kids at the mall (and at the goth kids and at the hip hop kids, ..you get the point) I wouldn't wish them actual physical harm. That is just childish schoolyard behaviour gone out of hand. Grow up or evolve people!!

... there are not any Mexican Emo bands? There is a BUNCH of Mexican Death Metal bands! Some that I really like too. But there are no Mexican Emo bands that I am aware of. Why would these kids follow some washed up trend that is most prevalent in the states?

But all I can say is at least it was more positive in the second clip. They should start a show called 'The Emos Show' ;-) and give a hand to them. The Emos are like the 60's hippie or the 80's metal head etc... Aside from being stoned all the time they are just misunderstood! Hey at least they can identify someone similar. I miss that Im like a clean cut looking dude now but hey I still got my Black tees and baggy pants! heh....

Saw an emo the other day at the mall, he was with a GF and shopping around in a sports shoes store.
GOSH! He was so ... "gay" (there really aren't any other words for this), for a solid moment I thought they were two female. The guy wore extremely tight spandex and had a platinum blonde diagonal emo haircut and emo-punk clothes that were still new.
I threw up in my mouth a little. I miss the real punks days.

you people are missing the point. emo has INVADED down the US to mexico to central america and to south america. they also have NO fucking sense of self control. at least in the US emos know theyre fucked up so they stay in certain places. mexican emos have no self control. they're a fucking plague man, they're putting they're ruining the landscape with their magnificently stupid haircuts and theyre ruining the soundscape with shitty music.
the point is, this is an attempt to strike back. its an extreme reaction, but its one that will no doubt the people who will be emos in mexico. or it might rally their troops, but who knows. i dont think theyre tough enough.
about mexican emo bands - there's one called panda. they literally steal riffs and lyrics from mcr and other emo/pop punk bands. theyre also pretty damn popular.
emo girls = not actually hotter. there's just not many metal chicks right now, and they tend to be older. the pool isnt big enough to find hot chicks. let's be honest 16 year olds just tend to have better bodies and so on. so its based on age and sheer number more than anything.
the eskemos joke was hilarious though!

Ugh... emo has got to be the worst trend ever in music. At least when guys dressed like chicks in the 80's, they still acted like guys. It makes me long for the days of nu-metal, which was terrible too.
On the bright side, these people will look like jackasses when their friends find old photos of their emo days (or their My Chemical Romance discs) and everyone will have a good laugh.
Nobody will be caught dead listening to shit like Fall Out Boy in 5 years, just like how nobody listens to Limp Bizkit anymore.

Well, first of it all i've found this "anti-emo" stuff very stupid, i'm a proud mexican metalhead, i hate emo-kids (kids 'cause they don't pass the 18, there are no emos of 20 or over) like almost all the metalheads and society in general do and the other ones, the "punks" and "darks", come on, they are as young as the emos, they're all just a bunch of kids that doesn't have anything else to do, and they doesn't have principles. I just got to say, respect if you want to be respected.
