AXL ROSE Is Thankful For 'Free Dr Pepper For Everyone' Campaign
- Mar. 26, 2008
|
|
Tired of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock 'n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (OK, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, "Chinese Democracy", in 2008. In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except former GN'R guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time — anytime! — in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right. "It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love," said Jaxie Alt, director of marketing for Dr Pepper. "So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection — for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as " Dr Pepper for the ears" because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds — an instant classic." Show your support for Axl and get on the nightrain of encouragement at this location. Commented Axl Rose in a statement: "We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album, 'Chinese Democracy', as for us this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him."

I dont get it, what do you mean? it says Slash and Buckethead will NOT get free Dr. Pepper.
On a more general note to this article, why are just Slash and Buckethead excluded? There's about 30 other ex-GNR members they could include.

So Axl is saying that:
1. Buckethead is on the album (great news) and 2. CD will be released in 2008 (whatever)
and themetalshop, someone who wants to be famous does not hide away in his fortress for 10 years at the peak of his fame.

That's pretty defiant. Dr. Pepper cannot be given to over 300,000,000 friggin people!
They are betting that Axl won't produce anything this year and are taking advantage of his name and the great demand for new material from Axl. It's crazy man.
Axl said he'd share his Dr. Pepper with Buckethead as if he's going to release it this year.
What's up with excluding Slash? He hasn't had anything to do with Axl in years.

I disagree 100%. It's a GENIUS marketing idea! Think of it. Dr Pepper is getting MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF FREE PUBLICITY and they will never, ever have to pay a cent for it.
Because Chinese Democracy is NOT coming out in 2008. Nor will it ever come out.

Yeah it's taken a long time - so? Plenty of other music out there; you don't have to drum your fingers and listen to Appetite over and over
Lots of people who post on this site think Pink Floyd are the greatest thing ever, and they've only produced two hours of new material in the past 21 years. And if Zeppelin put out a new album - not that I think they should or would - would everyone be bitching because it's been 30 years since the last one?

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Many have tried, but so far nobody has been able to pry the decade-in-the-works Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" from the hands of lone remaining original member Axl Rose.
Now, Dr Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-Guns members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008.
Rose responded on his band's web site (http://www.gunsnroses.com) that the band was "surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper." But the offer did not prompt him to rose to the challenge.
"Chinese Democracy" was most recently scheduled for release in March 2007, but promptly vanished from the schedule without a new date being set. Rose said at the time that all the recording had been completed, but there were some "scheduling difficulties."
It will be the first album of fresh Guns N' Roses material since the 1991 sets "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II." Rose has reportedly burned through $13 million in recording expenses for "Chinese Democracy," and also burned his bridges with the bandmates who helped him turn Guns into one of the biggest rock groups in the world by the early 1990s

I think Axl not releasing an album is more about Axl not wanting to be back in the public eye again rather than actually releasing 'new' material.
The ironic thing is, that the intense spotlight of '87 - '92 just won't be there today. Guess he doesn't realize that.

i hate it when people defend axl by saying "sabbath hasnt released an albumin ___, zeppelin hasnt released an album in ___, pink floyd havent released an album in ___"
okay its clearly not the same. first off, iommi, roger waters, robert plant, etc. have made solo albums too. but not just that. axl has been working on this ONE album and promising to release it for 10 years. that is unprecedented (except for maybe brian wilson, but its still different)
also, i cant find anything official from dr pepper. where's the link to the official site saying theyre gonna do this? and how would they go about giving everyone in america one can of dr pepper? would they mail one to everyone? where would you go and get precisely one and only one can for one person?
its just weird. thats all.

Although nowadays it's sometimes beer + metal, or weed + metal instead....
