GEORGE LYNCH Says 'Original' DOKKEN Reunion Will Probably Happen In 2009 - Mar. 27, 2008
A 24-minute audio interview with George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB, SOULS OF WE) conducted by Norway's Metal Express Radio following a recent guitar clinic in Oslo has been posted online at this location. Lynch discusses his new band SOULS OF WE (which also features former BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION vocalist London LeGrand), the upcoming LYNCH MOB tour with CINDERELLA and WARRANT, and the possibility of a DOKKEN reunion with him on guitar. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On his efforts to bring the original DOKKEN lineup back together:

Lynch: "The other thing that might be happening, which I've been trying to get together for the last few years, is a DOKKEN reunion. I would bet money that maybe next year it might happen. It's hard to say. But it almost happened this year. I think where it fell apart is that... for one thing, Jeff [Pilson, bass] wasn't going to be in the band, so it already would have been [just] three of the original four members, and secondly, we'd have to be opening for WARRANT [on a bill that was also to include CINDERELLA in the headlining slot], which… I didn't think that was right. Not saying anything about WARRANT, but with us coming back with original members, I think that was strong enough for us to be at least a second [on the bill], if not a headliner. Don [Dokken] had a problem with that, and I agree with him to a certain extent. So I think next year, we'll maybe get together — all four members, including Jeff Pilson. We'll see."

On the "personal issues" between him and Don Dokken:

Lynch: "I think Don has issues with himself, which I don't really have anything to do with. [Laughs] I have learned to sort of be more accomodating in my old age where I don't think it'll bother me — I can't imagine it would; I've dealt with more difficult situations, you know, than… So… that's OK. What I think about every day is just how fun it would be to go out there and play for the fans and see the smiles on their faces, and there'll be a smile on my face playing those songs that we wrote 25 years ago. And [we'd be playing] for big crowds again — it's been a while since we've been out in front of big crowds like that, so… I mean, what's not to be happy about? [Laughs] If you can't be happy at that point, then you might as well shoot yourself. [Laughs] It doesn't get any better than that."

To be honest....I'm WAY more excited to see the original Lynch Mob with Oni Logan than I am to see a Dokken reunion. Wicked Sensation is an underrated classic IMO. Oni Logan should be a huge star.....and George Lynch is in my top 5 favorite guitar players. Maybe top 3.

Would love to see a Dokken reunion.....but.....Lynch Mob is the big draw to me.

Don Dokken comes out with some sort of response that George is talking out of his ass?
Dokken has their current record to promote and they wouldn't want this out there making news right about now.

They shouldn't be calling this the original line-up.

The original line-up was Don Dokken, Greg Leon, Jim Monanteras, and Mick Brown. Then Lynch replaced Greg Leon. A bit later Juan Croucier replaced Jim Monanteras. After the Carrerre recordings of Breaking the Chains is when Pilson joined. So by my count that's the fourth line-up.

I can see them marketing a re-union as The Classic Line-up, but to call it the Original Line-up is well, bending the truth (some call that a lie).

I tried to get Dokken out here to Oz a few years ago, but was too expensive for me. We should get a street team happening down here. I am in touch with their local distributors so that could be a good start.

Don. George, Mick & Jeff, if you ever cruise these pages and stumble across this, come to OZ !!!!

Have to say in the meantime, I dig the current lineup and the sound samples for the upcoming Lightning Strikes Again sound pretty damn cool.

Rock on \m/

look as a big fan I would love to see them back together again but only if they are gonna put some new music that sounds like dokken the way we remember them not the crap cd they put out trying to sound new in the 90's. plus let's face if they get back it will be about the money and not about the fans and certainly not about the I miss the guys in the band thing. they made it clear even back in the day they could not stand each other and after all that's been said over the years all of sudden it's changed? do it but do it only if you are gonna do it right and not just a quick cash job. I thought the last 2 dokken cd's were getting closer to what they sounded like in the begining so hopefuly any new material will sound more like the old stuff. it is cool that lynch mob is back though that first cd was great.

Dokken was always a band in the 80's that I thought I should like, but never did. Now in retrospect, I know why I didn't like them...they were boring. Even some of the songs I did like from that era are boring when I hear them now.

Wicked Sensation was the best record any of these guys have ever made. It's not even close.

Every time I hear Dokken music I think how important it is to have George play the stuff live so I hope they do get together.

George is still bitter and expressing disdain for Don's actions in the past already! Fuck!!! How the fuck are they going to get together when George says there shouldn't be a problem one second and than goes off on many many examples regarding how Don's an Ahole??!!

To make a comparison regarding how bad Don was, George mentions Arnold (In and interview for the movie "Pumping Iron") stating that he preferred training while sort of ignoring his dad's passing, to prepare for the "Olympics" but George meant to say the "Olympia". I'm pretty sure Arnold later stated that story was false and just for the movie, so in essence no one is as much of a dick as Don!

You can't have a reunion for Dokken and open for bands that aren't as "classic" or important. The fact that George can communicate with Don at this point is great, but shit it's too bad that they can't just be cool with each other.

I am surprised at how positive George is about his band's singer London. Powerful words like "soul mate". He must be happy to work with someone who can't and won't dick him over...

George speaks as a fan which is really funny!! He's almost too honest when it comes to "legacy" bands and Don's current "look" and personality.

Can't wait to see George live!!!

Here's your answer......BECAUSE THEY CAN, THEY WANT TO, and IT'S THEIR LIVES..........

I love the blabberheads complaining about bands, getting together and working....and cough "not doing exactly what certain blabberheads want them to, to the letter.....".....you people are such a joke.....get a life....

You people do know that this is their(as in most of the bands that you complain about) jobs right?

I saw Dokken in 1986, opening for Priest, 1988 @ Monsters of Rock, 1995 when they reunited.....and I will see this tour as well if it happens.....

Splittin hairs a bit aren't we? All the original official Dokken releases are Lynch, Dokken, Pilson, and Mick. We're not talking about who was in the band before they were known by anyone other than their mothers.

Why wouldn’t they open for Warrant? It's the original Warrant too, and I'd be willing to bet that Warrant sold more albums than Dokken. They were bigger than Dokken, at least here in the states.

Lynch is a complete dick! I used to be a big Lynch/Dokken fan until I saw Lynch play solo opening for Yngwie in Denver at The Ogden. He literally played the whole show standing behind the drum kit with the exception of coming to the front of the stage during some of Mr. Scary, pretending he was Eddie Van Halen, and then almost immediately he retreated back behind the drum kit. I don't think that he acknowledged the audience one time! I was so pissed that I left and didn't stay for Yngwie (which I now regret). Also Dokken is boring live. I remember them at the Van Halen, Monster's of Rock show. It was their last gig for a long time, and even though they destroyed their drum set at the end of the set, it was pretty fucking boring.

Looking back, Dokken is kind of boring. Even more so, they're of their time. Bands like Poison and Cinderella get to headline these package shows for a reason. I have never been dissapointed by those two bands. Dokken? I remember Lynch passing out after three songs at the Cap Centre when they opened for Aerosmith. I just don't give a shit about Dokken anymore.

I thought most of the Dokken albums after Back For the Attack were pretty bad for the most part. The band has too much internal strife to try to recapture the chemistry they once had.

Lynch should focus on Lynch Mob or Souls of WeeWee, but should give up on Dokken.

Jon Levin sounds pretty good with Dokken. I don't think they will be a bigger draw with Lynch in the band at this point.

The weakest link in Dokken is and always was... Don Dokken. Especially now. He already had shitty range in the 80s and now he's lost at least a fifth (the musical interval, not the fraction) of his higher range. He sounds tired and seems cynical.

I wonder why the hell the band was named after Don Dokken...

I'm sure that everyone on here is aware, or should be aware that most the time you hear of a band nationwide, that those guys/girls aren't the original members; therefore it would make much more sense to refer to the line-up as the original recording line up than try to promote this as was stated earlier. Yea, some will cry and split hairs, but what about the music?

Top 5 Dokken Albums

1. Back For The Attack
2. Tooth & Nail
3. Erase The Slate
4. Under Lock & Key
5. Dokken (self titled Japanese release of Dysfunctional with heavier guitar mixes)

Special Mention to Lynch Mob's Wicked Sensation which is a classic from the era.

Let's hope Lightning Strikes Again smashes it's way into the top 5 !

So what are your faves fellow Dokken fans ?

I've always considered Tooth & Nail to be their "Van Halen" (first one), cuz there wasn't a throw away track on it, & Back for the Attack as their best representation of their style. Live, I think Don was never a strong frontman (great singer), but didn't seem to know what to do with himself without a guitar on. Am I right that he & George butted heads over him playing guitar? And I still listen to Wicked Sensation on a regular basis, cuz it still rocks. Great disc. I dunno if I care for another reunion though.

He spends over half the interview bashing Don Dokken, but starts with saying he doesn't have a problem with Don. He hypes his new album, and then talks about how fans don't want new music. Lynch said "David Bowie was a snorefest live because he played new songs."

The Dokken camp told him to take a hike there will be no reunion with him, and so he is out spewing this garbage. Lynch sounded like a sore loser in this interview.

WTF,Why is Dokken always bashed because the band members didn't get along;as far as I know just about every band in the 80's didn't get along with all their members.Everyone knows that the dickheads that come on here to bash a band never was a fanand just want to put their 2 cents in to start shit.If you don't like Dokken and don't want to see the reunion tour then don't go and shut the fuck up and quit acting like little spoiled kids or punks. Most of the 80's hard rock bands were great and for anyone saying Warrant was better and more popular and sold more albums then Dokken is totally retarded and have little knowledge about anything..and for the the moron that said George was a dick is also wrong George is a very cool and down to earth person..and I have heard more complaints over the years about Yngwie being a dick and an asshole to his fans then all bands put together.John Leven is good but, isn't no George Lynch the only guitarist that filled Georges shoes well was John Norum and Billy White and Reb was also pretty good...I'm not here to offend anyone damn, just quit bashing a band that deserves respect.
