AXL ROSE Signs With SCOTT WEILAND's Management
- Mar. 27, 2008
|
|
|
GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose has made the following announcement:
"I am very pleased to announce that GUNS N' ROSES and I are now represented by the management team of Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. We are very excited and look forward to working with them and hope our relationship proves beneficial for everyone, especially the fans."
It is interesting to note that up until recently, Azoff Music also managed VELVET REVOLVER, the band featuring Axl's former GN'R bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Azoff is continuing to represent VR's singer, Scott Weiland, an Azoff spokesperson confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET.
According to a press release, the Dr. Pepper soft drink company has promised a free can of its signature soda to "everyone in America" if GUNS N' ROSES releases its long-delayed new album, "Chinese Democracy", in 2008. Dr. Pepper director of marketing Jaxie Alt said in a statement, "It took a little patience to perfect Dr. Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love. So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection — for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears'because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds — an instant classic."
Axl Rose responded in a statement: "We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album, 'Chinese Democracy', as for us this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time."
"Chinese Democracy" has reportedly been in the works since 1995, with Rose the only original member still in the band. According to a report published two years ago by the New York Times, Rose had allegedly burned through $13 million in the studio by that point.
Although a revamped GUNS lineup toured successfully in 2006 and Rose tentatively promised that the record would be out last March, it never materialized and little has been heard about it since.

Whoever thought of that marketing plan is a GENIUS. They get millions of dollars of FREE promotion and will NEVER have to pay a cent for it. Because Chinese Democracy is NEVER coming out. Certainly not this year!

madeinquebec is right about GnR dying long ago. But why??? They could have been our generation's Rolling Stones. Arg.
Bring back Slash and Duff and Izzy and get something done. Enoughs enough.

No one will be getting any free Dr. Pepper unless they steal some.
There are actually re-mastered versions of the 'leaks' floating around - some of them quite good. Who remastered them? Probably some kid with access to the right equipment.
It is my opinion that some of the 'leaks' were put out on purpose - to generate interest in TICKET SALES! And if that is the case - it worked out well.

..do you really think it will be as easy as goig into a store and getting a free Dr. Pepper? How naive. This plan is brilliant because 1. Chinese Democracy will not come out this year and 2. Even if it does, Dr. Pepper will make it quite difficult to collect your free soda. You'd have to fill out a form and submitt it, then wait for a coupon that lets you redeeem it for a free soda, something the average person will not go to the lengths it takes to collect a single can of Dr. Pepper.
Axl signing with the same management team as Velvet Revolver makes it easier for a full fledged GNR reunion. With that conflict out of the way the mangement team will probably push for it to happen, as $$$$ is what management is all about. Let's face it, a GNR reunion would generate a shitload of cash with the current void in modern hard rock.

Have denied my assertion that new management=likely reunion. I would dare say its a VERY suspicious move though, especially the TIMING of the whole Weiland fiasco going on- but you never know.
I do know this, Axl is a fruitcake and will likely need much more prodding than EVH to get back together with those guys, but who knows.
Just get CHI-DEM out and over with. I quite liked the leaks.
In many bands history, its pretty apparent that a change of management signals something. I could think of more pre-reunion management changes but some of the other bands are escaping me.
