MISFITS: Rare 1995 Demo Recordings Posted Online
- Mar. 31, 2008
|
|
Veteran punk drummer Joel Gausten ( PIGFACE, THE UNDEAD, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN) has posted two rare MISFITS rehearsal demos for the tracks "Astro Zombies" and "London Dungeon" at this location. Recorded in February 1995 at the MISFITS' rehearsal compound in New Jersey, the demos feature Jerry Only on bass, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, Eric Weiss on vocals and Gausten on drums. The songs were part of an 11-song recording engineered by future MISFITS drummer Dr. Chud. These tracks were completed several months prior to Michale Graves becoming the band's official singer. At the time of the recording, Gausten had been serving as one of the band's fill-in rehearsal drummers while the band was auditioning vocalists. Gausten detailed his experiences with the MISFITS in his book "Tales of Horror: The History of The Misfits & The Undead", available for purchase at this location.

Demos sound good. I saw the Graves era misfits a few times in the 90's. It was a good show , And the albums they did w/ Him are rocking. Too bad Graves ain't with them no more.

I thought Dr. Chud was briefly a "real" Misfit way back when, then rejoined when needed in 95, anyone know?

I thought it was a good record. Certainly isn't classic misfits but it was good for what it was. To each his own

Gorgeous Frankenstein=killer.
Michale Graves solo stuff=Hit and miss, with the exception of the killer "Punk Rock is Dead" album.
Osaka Popstar=Killer (But it's mainly cover songs).
Dr.Chud's X-Ward=Hit and miss.
Current Misfits fronted by Jerry Only=Decent live, but they need a new album and Jerry clearly can't write one. Bring back Doyle, Chud and Michale you tool!!!

misfits without danzig is like death without chuck, or nine inch nails without trent rezner. yes, hypothetically, steve digorgio could hire a bunch of people and call it death, and you know what, it may even be good. but its not death, by any stretch.
danzig is the misfits. he was their voice, their songwriter, their lyricist, he gave the band their image, their aura, everything. jerry only's contributions to the misfits are comparitvely minor. graves has some degree of talent, and there's a couple of graves era misfits songs that sound okay. but it was by no stretch of the imagination what the real misfits were really about, they couldnt be, because danzig wasnt involved. and without graves, theyre even more lost. the current misfits are a mess. jerry only is a punk bassist. think about it. im a better bassist than sid vicious and i would never play it in fron of actual people, yet he's the most popular punk bassist around. the degree of musical talent required is minimal. if there's one thing he's proving, is that he cant write or sing, and he's just embarassing himself.
