STONE TEMPLE PILOTS To Embark On Full-Fledged Summer Amphitheater Tour
- Apr. 1, 2008
|
|
Mitchell Peters of Billboard.com reports that the recently reunited STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will embark on a full-fledged summer amphitheater tour. Details are still coming together, but a source close to the band tells Billboard.com that STP will play more than 50 shed dates this summer and into fall, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival on May 17-18 at Columbus, Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium. Among the handful of other STP dates already announced are May 23 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the Indy 500 and the 2008 Edgefest on July 12 in Toronto. Read more at Billboard.com.

If I didnt have so many summer concert trips planned already, I would probably check this out. Too bad that the closest Amphitheater to me is The Gorge, and im already hitting it up a couple times this year. Don't think Ill be making the trek down...unless they have a really good opening band with them.

STP was far better the bigger goliath than velver revolver .... VR was always a "put togther" band ...... GNR (original and STP) in theire own right were great bands .. but VR was just an in between band ....
GNR lovers can blame Scott all you want .... Fact is ... Scott's a great singer / song writer ... Both himself and Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum have all done the re hab thing (hello - Slash has a pace maker due to substance abuse ......
Regardless ..... VR did well ... STP an GNR are in the annuals of rock history ....
So keep slinging mud ......
whatever ..
i prefer to listen to my FIVE STP albums, than my 1 REAL GNR album ........ the rest was tripe .....

if scott was such a great singer songwriter we would have witnessed this in VR, but he sucked ass, because he...sucks ass.
the real talent in stp was robert great songwriter, awesome.
the melody lines scott came up with in VR were far from stellar...
he can't sing, he's always out of breath, and out of tune live...
glad he's going to tour with stp again, hope he stays there so the guys in VR can find someone else who really rocks...
but lets not get carried away with the praise for scott as a songwriter, please.
take it easy.

Scott's voice is a mere shadow of what it once was in STP's early days. It's not like he ever had much range, but now he's lacking in power too.
I always thought STP were way overrated, much like VR were. STP at least had two decent albums, VR haven't even managed one that's great all the way through.

You're dead right - people forget the songwriting talent of STP is not simply Scott, although in his day he was a superb vocalist, he's really let it go.
Regardless I'm going to toast STP's return with a glass of fesh orange juice and I think you all should do the same!

Listen up assholes- You can choose not to like Scott. Fine. You're entitled. But to talk about his addicition issues like you don't care is flat out fucking sick/mean. Better watch the karma fuckwads. Scott is a GREAT singer and GREAT frontman (check cd sales for proof) early Stone Temple Pilots is some of the BEST rock and roll you'll hear. Velvet Revolver is a decent band. It wasn't supposed to be the BEST band, but in no way is that Scott's fault ALONE. His lyrics are killer. Now go on with your completely retarted "orange juice" comments. Everybody knows you're an idiot.

Hey SchecterShredder I agree with most of you post. But the # of cd's sold do not mean someone is a great band or great singer. There are plenty of shitty groups/artists that have sold a lot of albums that completely suck. I do like stp myself but album sales does not mean someone is good or not.
There are many band that haven't sold shit but are dam good.

STP were a shitty Pearl Jam copy band as I remember it, and there really is fuck all wrong with my memory!!! Scott has NEVER been a "great frontman/singer/songwriter", and live (seen him twice), just fucking painfull!! Then the megaphone comes out!!! Jeez! I have not mentioned orange juice or addictions....or if selling lots of cd's equals greatness (tut, tut). The man is a liability and cheap shots are not necessary when he fucks up every other day!! This proposed tour wont last 5 minutes, save your cash folks!! Bunch of proto-emo whining wingey crap anyway...............IN MY OPINION!! Choose life kids!!!

Cool...pretty cool.
So I wonder who the new front man (woman?) will be for Velvet Revolver?
I wish no ill-will towards Scott Weiland, but feel (like a great deal of others) that he was all wrong for VR.

Let's not be delusional about the dedication of these tools to their craft. And let's not romanticize the past either. This is about MONEY. STP will charge, AT A MINIMUM, $50.00 a ticket, and might even sell out a few venues on this tour.
This is not a huge decision that the band had to sit down and ponder. "Should we get back together? Is this what the fans want?" NO! It's, "hey if we can stand being around each other for five months, we can make a pile of cash off of all these booger eaters that will come and listen to us suck for 100 minutes."
I'll pass. And I'll pass when Soundgarden undoubtedly does the SAME THING next summer. And I'll pass when AudioSlave gets back together for a tour. And when Velvet Revolver gets back together for a tour. Does anyone around here realize that these bands are NOT relevant?

Well you wrong with your first prediction.
The tickets @ Holmdel, NJ are @ MINIMUM $20.25.
Maximum $59.25.
See ticketmaster.
Money? Why not? Why not make money?
STP is/was a better band than VR, but Scott's voice has degraded downhill exponentially. The VR show w/ AIC last summer? AIC blew the doors off the place, and well VR stunk....Scott's voice was not well.....
At the same time, I saw them twice on their first club tours, and they were great.

I have seen STP 3 times, 93, 97, and 99.......they great each time, and I want to see them, but I don't know since Scott's voice is not whatit once was.
