SCOTT WEILAND Says Former VELVET REVOLVER Bandmates Are 'Covering Up The Truth' - Apr. 2, 2008
Vocalist Scott Weiland has released a statement to MTV News regarding his dismissal from VELVET REVOLVER.

The founding members of VELVET REVOLVER — guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum — announced their decision to fire Weiland in a press release issued at the conclusion of the band's final performance with Weiland in Amsterdam, Holland. Slash cited Weiland's "increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems" as reasons for dismissing him.

In a statement released Wednesday morning, Weiland fired back at his erstwhile bandmates, stating, "After reading the comment by Duff, Matt, Dave and the illustrious 'Guitar Hero,' Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, I find it humorous that the so-called four 'founding members' of VELVET REVOLVER, better known to themselves as 'the Project' before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow.

"In response to Slash's comment regarding my commitment [to the band], I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun ... at times. But let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member — no need to mention his name).

"Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back," Weiland continued. "This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow bandmates in [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS] and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."

In conclusion, Weiland warned fans not to be "fooled by veiled trickery," and even wished VELVET REVOLVER his best. "Good hunting, lads — I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice."

Who left who? We still don't really know. If Scott said something on stage or in a letter regarding Matt, it may well have been a reaction to a threat from the band. I would think that Scott got a stern warning and dealt with it like an immature, high, weakling. Addicts can deny responsibility at all times and react horribly when having to face reality. Besides, it takes a lot for Slash (of all freaking people) to label someone else erratic!!!

Scott is pointing fingers and not dealing with the truth. His band mates helped get him off drugs and gave him a job when he was down. Ungrateful idiot, but it's probably the drugs and alcohol talking.

Hey Scott: Be a man and concentrate on getting sober and strong, not this type of petty shit. You've got a big mouth and no substance and you piss away an existence filled with luck, money and freedom that most don't ever experience.

I gotta admit, Bach joining these boys would see-to-it that I'd be more than happy to bite the bullett and pay the extortionate ticket prices this band charge for their shows (bit more of a classic death-head myself, who enjoys paying to go see a band play their asses off for not much more than the price of their latest CD, as upposed to rock and pop super-star price-tag that usually goes with seeing bands like VR)

Just to get a bite of the sheer rock and roll brilliance of the concept of Bach with these lads though...

Talk about annihilating Scott Weiland in every single aspect - like that's an accomplishment. Better than Bach, too, although Bach would be kinda cool...

Either way, I say hire someone who might make me start giving a shit about the band, and since their music pretty much blows he better be good.

Oh yeah it's all one big conspiracy against Scott Weiland. I mean this is the same guy who fucked up STP and flushed that band down the toilet when they were at their height of popularity with his drug addiction and various arrests and prison and rehab stints. I don't believe a word this man says. He did the same exact shit with VR that he did with STP. Weiland is a waste of talent, a waste of brains and a waste of skin and bone. If you're going to throw it all away for the smack then you don't deserve to even call yourself a man. You're a ghost of a shell, Mr. Weiland, perhaps even the ghost in the shell? That's a popular anime program, right? Bottom line is that you blew it, baby. I want you to think long and hard before the next time you stick the needle in your arm. Think about what you're doing to your family, friends, bandmates and fans.... think about what you're doing to yourself. This life ain't a game, and unless you're a Buddhist or a Hindu it's the only life you'll ever live, so please give strong consideration to NOT throwing it all away for a "cheap fix". You're a mousy, ropey and scrawny little bugger, Mr. Weiland. You are the picture of the junkie. Does that make you proud? Does it make you happy? I'm thinking you've pondered those questions many times before and you know the TRUE answers, but yet you're still a slave to the junk. Perhaps the only solution is to give up all worldly possessions and join a convent somewhere in Nebraska or Idaho. After five years of that lifestyle your soul should be thoroughly cleansed and perhaps you'll even be ready to join a rock and roll outfit (or "combo") without the prerequisite for these "dirty little habits" for a dirty little rockstar. Just give it a thought, man. We're all pulling for you to get better.

1. They got what they deserved for choosing that douchebag.

2. They should continue with a real rock singer (like Rod Jackson), and show everybody including Weiland how much better "The Project" can be without a narcissistic, second-rate copycat, transvestitie, junkie primadonna as the frontman.

3. It's so entertaining that he counts as his real friends the people who got so fed up with his bullshit that they fired him from a band to which he actually made a significant positive contribution.

4. This reunion will remind everybody that STP only made two good albums, and there was a reason we all lost interest in them.

5. Why do feuding rockers always think it's the ultimate slam to refer to an ex-bandmate by their real non-stage name (like EVH did with Michael Anthony)? Whether it's with "The Project" or not, though, it's time for Saul to get back to some serious rockin'. If he can't do it with these guys, he should get the second lineup of Snakepit back together and lead the resurrection of real rock with them now.

The ONLY people that thought it was a good idea and were delusional to think that it would last were the band members, the managers and the record company execs that put this project together in the first place.

Nice to see a disagreeing reply that doesn't state what a retard the other person is - quite unusual for Blabbermouth. I must still disagree though... Like you said, Bach and Matijetic are more technically proficient than Weiland, and I happen to like that. I do believe it would fit VR, meaning *I* would be 99.9% likely to prefer that to the Weiland VR. Frankly, I've never liked a band that didn't have an awesome singer, and to *me* an awesome singer is way less limited than Weiland. We're talking preference, since we're not disagreeing about who's better, technically speaking. I would most definitely like it.

I can totally see how a massive 4 octave range vocal teacher, or a Kiske or Tate-style singer could sound completely goofy and out of place in for instance a rock 'n' roll kind of band, it's not like you could put Bruce Dickinson in a grunge band, but most of the time I start liking bands BECAUSE of the awesome singer. With a singer like Weiland, the band would never appeal to me, almost regardless of the music.

I don't listen to music for the 'hits'. I usually also don't listen because it's 'catchy', in the typical sense. I'm a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie woooorld is catchy as well, but I somehow doubt you like it? Cobain may be a legend, but he was a terrible guitar player and an even worse singer, and that is why I hated everything he ever did.

I don't listen for the modesty or moderation, I listen for the awesomeness. And for me, that involves technical ability. In terms of singing, nailing a high note and holding it for 30 seconds does more for me than hearing Cobain be cranky and whine. You can't just say 'it's not that important' - it sure is, to plenty of us.

Mr. Weiland, the members of your former and current band Stone Temple Pilots have not always had your back. They also ripped you a new asshole in the press and fired your sorry, unreliable junkie ass. Now that it has become fashionable to reunite and try to milk the music fans of every cent they have, they call on you. Whether we blame Bush's economy, illegal downloading, or simply people being tired of what you bring to the table, these reunions are most often nothing more than an attempt to make money where all other attempts fail.
Regarding your attitude and statement about your dismissal - just because you "proclaimed" the band dead in the water does not make it so. After all, we, the fans have proclaimed YOU dead in the water many times. Yet, you haunt us with your incessant warbling and quasi-interesting adventures with the legal system. Its time to get over yourself, Scott. You began your career doing a bad impersonation of Layne Staley, and you are ending it doing a bad impersonation of yourself. Get help. Really try this time. Succeed.
Changing gears ...

Morgagne - Ripper Owens is respected worldwide for his vocal abilities, and is not only a great entertainer, but one hell of a nice guy. No need to bring him into this. But if you must, at least learn to spell, you simple twat.

Slash says in his book that the rehearsal tapes with Josh Todd sounded horrific. He played them for the rest of the band, and they agreed, so they canned him. Plus, Buckcherry is having plenty of success on their own. Saul also said that when they auditioned Sebastian Bach, it sounded like "Skid Roses". (to me, that sounds interesting). Apparently, they didn't like it, so I doubt either guy will be the new singer.

They should hire Brent Smith of Shinedown. He's a phenomenal singer stuck in a mediocre band. I'd love to hear what he could write with those guys.

Dude, they need Dilana! She would be different and a cool fit with Slash, and they all know Gilby Clarke is a douche so it would work.
Scott is the most pathetic, Karaoke singin' cracked out, prancing around like a fruit, junkie fuck on the planet and he needed to go away after his first song when he sounded like Eddie Vedder. When Plush plays I still think Pearl Jam at first before I remember it is that cover band STP. Always behind him my taint!!! If they were always behind him he wouldn't have been in VR to begin with. They are just bringin' him back because they fell off the face of the planet after his smack habit kicked him out of the band. I'm sure that behind closed doors the Deleo bros. fucking hate the fact that they have to get back with this feather boa wearin', Mick Jagger wanna be ass clown. I'm sure they are dreading this tour and are in it SOLEY for the $$$$$$.
I feel so sorry for Slash and his trials with Lead Singer Disease(LSD), but if he didn't see this coming, he is the only one. Good for Matt to call Scott on his bullshit. He had to sing those backing vocals Scott hated so much because Scott on his own sounds like wet dog shit floating around in Eddie Vedder's mouth. Fuck Scott Weiland!!! I was really excited for this band, although I've never been a huge Weiland fan. I thought the choice was weak, but I wanted to hear what "Guns" sounded like without "Rose". I thought Weiland could carry a tune, but he's that not that distinct. Also, he is a complete poser live. Anyone that says he's one of the greatest frontmen of all time might want to check THEMSELVES into rehab. His stage "persona" looks like shit that Axl or Mick Jaggar wouldn't do. Either do a better job of ripping them off or stop it all together. Anyway, Bach would be the obvious choice, but who knows with his being Axl's BFF. Next would be John Corabi. If Sixx wouldn't have freaked out and rushed to get Vince back, Motley would be relevant today and not just for nostaglia like they are now. The point is if Slash and Co. made it through the W. Axl Rose Experience and chose to make music together again, why would they let a wannbe like Weiland derail this band?

Talk about annihilating Scott Weiland in every single aspect - like that's an accomplishment. Better than Bach, too, although Bach would be kinda cool..."

The thing is, I think the aim with Velvet Revolver was to get a singer who was kinda' hip and contemporary...somebody whose career is rooted in the 90's up to the present. I don't think they're wanting a long haired, high voiced, 80's style singer... that would have been too predictable. So, the idea was to take musicians who are rooted in 80's Rock and put a singer in there that was rooted in "modern" rock. It was a good idea...but, I don't think it panned out.

It sucks to see Weiland get fired, but he was being a little bitch, so I'd have to agree with Slash, Duff, Dave, and Matt. Weiland is better in STP where he can write more songs about how hard his life is because he can't face his problems face to face and can't keep the needle out of his skin. I always hoped he'd clean up and stay in Velvet Revolver, but no one wants to deal with this guy's bitchy little attitude. As far as a GNR reunion, fuck that. Axl is another drama queen and might as well change his name to Asshole Rose. Changing the name to Savage Animal is another dumb fuck idea. They should not have to change the name from Velvet Revolver to Savage Animal because of Bach. He is like another Axl at times, but maybe he won't be. Changing the name would be showing it like the band couldn't move on without Weiland and they obviously can and do better. Its best for the group to find a new singer, keep their name, and to kick ass like they do. Weiland is best in STP where he can sing the grudge. Long live Velvet Revolver!

Overall though, the band in general sucked. They can't suddenly make it a good band by changing singers. They are all hasbeens, Scott included. Just like G'n'R. Axl can't write songs for shit. 90% of all musicians write their best music between the ages of 24-31. That's a fact.

Certainly with this case I'd say it's true but I think it depends on the quality of the musicians involved. As much as I may have enjoyed GN'R, they were hardly the best musicians in the world. Same with Metallica for me, a prime example of a band who can't write a song worth shit anymore.

second move : fire that guy nobody knows... what's his name ? You know the other guy on stage with a guitar that we never heard ? Dave something...

Now call Steven Adler, he might be a bit stupid, he might not be the best drummer out there, but at least the passion thing is not an issue with him !

And now get the real soul of GNR, call IZZY !!!

I will explain you why ! You suck really really really bad when you are writing song, and you suck even more when you are trying to write lyrics. Izzy got it all !!! Most of the best GNR songs have been written by Izzy, not you ! Also, Izzy got the "attitude", he's the most "Rolling Stones" guy out there that never been a member of the Stones. With Izzy, you got a nice rhythm guitar player in the Keith Richard Style, and that huy can sing. He might not sing as weel as Scott, but his voice will fit much better in that band !

VR gave Scott a chance to finally be a big time lead singer. Like past experience he failed. In 1996 STP was set to open on the KISS Reunion Tour. In June of 96 Sponge and Alice in Chains open for KISS. Why no STP because Scott was in rehab. Now 12 years later what has changed? Nothing. STP is asking Scott back to make a few dollars before he fails again. He will end up another dead rock star that never quite made it big. VR made a mistake making him the lead singer. They will live through it and continue to succeed. STP not going to happen. As Paul Stanley once said "this live fast and die young, I will leave that to the amateurs".

Dizzy Reed + Izzy Stradlin = Dizzy Stradlin. Hoping that will solve any further criticism of people telling me to get my s*it straight.

Just very quickly want to get this off my chest.

They WON'T EVEN CONSIDER BACH. They didn't like the way it sonuded before. Josh Todd is out too. John Corabi is too 80s and same with Jizzy Pearl.

At this point i'm sure the idea of a reunion with gnr is sounding good, but not quite yet....not before Chi. Dem. is out...because Axl wants to finish it and why would they want anything to do with it?

whoever suggested the guy from puddle of mudd is ridiculous...thatd be HORRIBLE.

To get back to RAW AND HARDCORE rock and roll they need someone edgy with a good voice. I like Jeff Scott Soto, but something tells me that since Slash played on Daughtrys record there may be an invitation extended....most likely denied, but extended.

The reason I'm so excited about this is because there is no obvious answer, but man i'm excited.

I personally would like to see Toby from rockstar supernova because that guy was raw and had the chops...good stage presence and song writing skills.

He seemed to think he had the authority to break the band up when *he* decided it should end; they simply told him he was replaceable and that they were going on without him. Good for them...they're far better off without this talentless megalomaniac.

It makes me laugh when Weiland talks about his "friends" in STP. As I recall his bandmates weren't too crazy about him, he was getting into brawls with the DeLeo brothers onstage and getting shipped off to rehab there too. We'll see how long they put up with his antics this time out.

I've seen the Headstones live enough times to know that 10-12 years ago Hugh Dillion definately would have been the guy, but face it, his last album although catchy, was no where near what he did with the Headstones, and even his live show wasn't the same. Yes, I did see him and the Redemption Choir live and must say it was weird seeing him not do ANY Headstones covers. He did do an amazing cover of Rebel Yell and Streets Of Bakersfield.

But C'mon its looking like singing is more and more of a side project because his 2nd solo CD with the Redemption Choir was suppose to be out Spring of 07.. still waiting! He hasn't toured in years either. He has sure been busy acting though..

As for him being a former junkie.. you honestly expect that not to play a role in fronting a band that has issues with substance abuse?

I would be absolutely floored and in awe if he got the job (as I said, 10-12 years ago, he would have been THE GUY) but I would be worried about his past demons coming back to haunt him.

So thats why.

"And now get the real soul of GNR, call IZZY !!! "

Read Slash's book and you will find that Izzy was originally in VR (during rehearsels) but decided he did not want to do it fulltime so pulled out. Dave is a mate of Slash's from school which is why he was asked to join.

Matt, Duff, Slash and Dave are VR - SW was ASKED to join after having to do a audition...

Personally I look forward to the future of VR...Libertard was a below average album...

I think he was a great singer and a great lyricist.

I don't think it's likely they'll gel with anybody else for any length of time. They're not going to be able to re-create the chemistry of early days GNR which is probably a dream they're stupidly clinging on to. Too many head strong egos, look inside guys it's where the good stuff comes from.

I liked old Gn'R and STP, so was kinda excited during the start of VR. Oh well.

Bas has an amazing voice but I don't find him a good fit for VR. John Corabi sounds interesting tho.

But if I could have my way, I want Izzy. He's a talented dude, just underappreciated during his Gn'R days.
