TOOL Singer Doing Wine Signing At Supermarket - Apr. 7, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, TOOL vocalist Maynard James Keenan will make a rare personal appearance at a Whole Foods supermarket in Chandler, Arizona on Wednesday (April 9) to sign bottles of wine from his vineyards in Sedona. According to the Whole Foods online calendar, Keenan and his partner Eric Glomski will sign bottles of their Caduceus, Merkin, and Arizona Stronghold lines at the store's wine bar between 4 and 9 p.m.

Keenan told The Pulse of Radio that he would rather spend time with wine enthusiasts than rock fans. "Generally speaking, the people that are into wine are generally adults and respect people's space, and it's not about the person really who made it, it's about the wine," he said. "So there's definitely a calmer admiration that goes on in those circles."

The Whole Foods in Chandler is located at 2955 West Ray Road.

Keenan, an avid wine enthusiast, began his Caduceus Cellars in 2004 and unveiled his first three wines in the spring of 2006.

Keenan released the debut album from his side project PUSCIFER, titled "V Is For Vagina", last fall.

The singer is slated to appear at selected stops on this spring's Justice Tour, which is being spearheaded by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello.

That would be kinda cool to see Maynard signing whine in a supermarket. You know you walk in there to pick up food etc. and go down an aisle and see him there. Can't wait for the next Tool disc/tour.

Who gets a fucking bottle of wine signed??? You are going to have a whole bunch of goth kids in hot topic outfits lined up down the block with Tool CDs in hand at the supermarket, LET ME ASSURE YOU!

You're saying it yourself, wine enthuesiests are about the wine, not who MADE it. So these 'adults' are not going to be turning out!

I love how guys make a lot of money at something, then suddenly look down their nose at the people who put them there. Don't thumb your nose at the kids who DO show up, because if it weren't for them you wouldn't have your fucking vineyards in the first place!

I also love when a guy says he prefers spending time with wine fans because they're 'adults', and yet he's releasing an album called 'V is for Vagina'. Very mature - was the title 'King Shlong' already taken?

This guy is the most conceited prick in music but he is damn talented. I haven't listened to the new Puscifier album but Tool and APC speak for themselves. I just wish that he would stop with the "I'm so special" routine because that shit got old during the Lollapalooza years.

Rock fans can be morons and drunken assholes, don't fool yourselves people. Maynard is right, and there is something to said about carrying yourself like and adult and respectign someone's space. If you were offended by Maynard's comment, then most likely you're a person who is more likely to get into the face and space of celebrity. Don't you find Maytard's attitude a little pretentious? The he wouldn't want to be around the very people that allowed him to be in a position to own a vineyard and, most likely, buy his wine?

Last year when I stopped by Binny's (a chain of liquor stores in Chicago) to grab some wine for dinner, and Vince Neil was there signing bottles of tequilla. That was pretty bizarre, but I somehow wasn't that surprised by it. I mean, Vince Neil doing a meet and greet at a liquor store, that makes sense.

The same scenerio with Maynard at a supermarket would be a pretty bizarre experience.

shattered73.. I couldn't agree with you more.

What "adult" calls an album "V is for Vagina"?

Tool's alright, APC's better, but jesus, Maynard is a fucking douche all around for making those comments. I can understand where he's coming from as far as the crazed fans and what not. But he needs to realize he created that fan base, much like they created him. He also needs to realize that there's no possible way that signing isn't going to be full of kids and/or basement dwellers.

I think it's quite funny that maynard is doing a signing for his wine, but doesn't want rock fans to show up. Maynard should ask himself if you did a wine signing (which is just ridiculous) and you were not a huge rock star that anyone would care or want a bottle signed? Would you even be doing a wine signing? He is using his fame to attempt to promote his wine, but doesn't want Tool fans to show up. Who else would care? I mean Jesus, what an arrogant and dillusional thing to do/say. He going to be sorely disappointed when a bunch a fans looking for autographs show up....maybe he'll pawn off some wine to an obsessed fan that is willing to shell out the $$$ just to get his autograph.

this is typical fucking whiney bullshit from your typical obsessed rock/tv/movie/hollywood fanatic that for some reason believes the artist "owes" them something for "putting them where they are today". Gimme a fucking break. He owes none of you idiots ANYTHING. He put out music he liked, and you bought it. How is that doing him a favour? You did yourself a favour by buying something that you enjoyed. Get off the fucking cross.

And his statement was probably taken out of context, which is why he never speaks to the goddamn media in the first place. All he was probably saying is he enjoys the relaxed atmosphere of wine afficianados, where he is not a celebrity, as opposed to the rabid Tool fanbase. What the fuck is wrong with the guy wanting a normal day outside??

And who says he was promoting it? This website picked up the story from another source who found it on the website holding the function. Yeah, Maynard went right to TMZ to tell everyone to bring their MJK shit down to sign it!!! He's doing a wine signing to promote the wine, not Tool. Do you really think he needs to promote Tool/APC/Puscifer? Then why doesn't he do extensive promotional tours like all of your 80's metal hair-band posers every time they do their 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th "reunion" tours?

Idiots.

Anyone that is sticking up for Maynard after he said such ridiculous bullshit is an ass-kissing toolbag.

"Keenan told The Pulse of Radio that he would rather spend time with wine enthusiasts than rock fans. "Generally speaking, the people that are into wine are generally adults and respect people's space, and it's not about the person really who made it, it's about the wine," he said. "So there's definitely a calmer admiration that goes on in those circles."

I think the point was already made...Your vineyards wouldn't exist without those cavemen rock fans you just bashed.
Let's keep in mind that anyone who shows up to your wine-bottle signing that isn't a Tool fan is a lame snobby shit excuse for a human being, ok? The ultra-pretentious aren't a subculture you should be jumping to join, Maynard.

I mean, i've always felt a little taken aback by the fact that so many people like Tool, and those "rock fans" you claim to loathe are annoying shits at the shows, getting drunk and punching each other. But they are there because no matter how stupid they are, they recognize the genius and brilliance in the music, even if they don't get the full effect because of their intellectual limitations.

And you don't loathe their money, do you?.....

I was going to buy the Puscifer album, and I was going to order the wine, too. But you can shove that bottle up your ass, Maynard.

And i'm stealing the next Tool CD offline. You won't get any more of my money until you apologize for being such a douche. I'm also passing this story around as much as I can so people can appreciate the thoughtlessness of your comments.

Respect my nuts.

The wine is not from a vineyard in Sedona. In fact, there is no vineyard in Sedona.

The wine being promoted, Arizona Stronghold, is from a vineyard located in Cochise County, AZ. (Go to AZstronghold.com to read all about it.) The Merkin and Caduceus wines that are currently in bottle are made from California fruit.

Next time, before you open that big black hole in your face, do some research.

So...just got back from the store/signing and I'd say "cool".
Whole Foods is a nice store, expensive as hell. After waiting in line for 2 hours and a hundred bucks later (Ya had to buy the wine bottle first) and to meet Maynard it was well worth it.
Oh! he was on isle 7 not 5. Surrounded by Sheriff's Officers as security he sat in the back of the store. Both he and Eric signed my bottle, said hello and I was out. There had to be a couple hundred people before I even showed up. As I walked out the line was still going strong. Great experience...been there done that.

For the above comments...Maynard donated his share to charity is what I hear.

For his wine, it taste great and you may have gotten upset because you cann't relate to him on this level.

About his comment about rock fans, I'm a fan, since '95 I'm not upset. I think it's all apart of who he is. He's bold he says shit no one else will. If I started a new venture and people only wanted to talk about the past, I'd same the same thing. Give the guy a fukn break. There was a reason it was released to the press and radio media... He wanted his fans there. But I think he didn't want to cause a roit like waiting in line for concert tickets. He was asking people to act fukn mature. I showed up in my TOOLARMY shirt and I'm 38 years old.
