Dan Donegan (DISTURBED) is a nominated for "Shredder"? What little credibility Metal Hammer had before is now completely gone.

They should just nominate Butt-Plug For My Valentine for everything as they are quite obviously amazing. Everything they
do just raises the bench mark.

^^^^ It appears so

I remember when the Glorious Burden was released, it was reviewed in their "Underground Metal" section

Now, in the space of 4 years, having released one album, Jon has gone from Underground >>>>>> Rifflord

Anyone else get the feeling that they just nominate bands who agree to play a song or two for them?

COMMENT | My views.

The following is who, in my view, would win the award out of the nominations. [My comments are in squared brackets.]

BEST UK BAND: Iron Maiden [but giving Maiden or Priest an award would be like giving an award to the sun for "best source of light" (i.e. not necessary at all). My nomination: Anaal Nathrakh.]

BEST LIVE BAND: Turisas [only because I've got enough respect for myself to see the commercial bands. Although I want to see Machine Head live so I can kick hypocrite Robb Flynn in the nuts. And Gallows aren't metal at all, they're indie-punk.]

BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST: Still Remains [but only as a joke, because I know they've broke up, so they can't really claim it. *blows raspberry and gives the V sign* And all the bands have been commercialised for donkey's years. My nomination: Cephalotripsy, but they're too good for awards.]

RIFF LORD and SHREDDER: none [Filler material marketing ploy by Metal Hammer. Alexi Laiho isn't talented. He may be by your standards, but not mine or anyone else's. My nomination: none. Filler material doesn't work on me.]

BEST UNDERGROUND BAND: Municipal Waste [but I haven't heard the others yet. I've heard Gallhammer are good. The Black Dahlia Murder are Hot Topic endorsed, so they are commercial, but the British mainstream metal press don't know owt. And Trigger the Bloodshed suck outright. My nomination: Cephalotripsy, but then again, mainstream media giving an underground band awards drags them up. I don't want that to happen to one of my favourites. And they're too good for awards anyway, I said that before.]

BEST INTERNATIONAL BAND: none [Filler material. Just a name for best band. No discernable difference between this and other awards.]

BEST VIDEO: none [Any self-respecting metallers watch videos? Didn't think so.]

BEST METAL LABEL: Century Media [...who are still not perfect, but at least they're giving Napalm Death a good home. My nomination: Razorback Records or Obscene Productions.]

BEST ALBUM: none [Wait until the end of the year before giving out this type of award. The labels don't stop for awards, they go on all the time. By the way, the Testament album isn't out YET, correct, but it will be out BEFORE the awards take place in JUNE. A cause for concern, because what if the Testament album sucked? Hey, no matter what, it'll still be far bloody better than the other nominations, but still... My nomination: nothing yet...]

INCOMING! [eh?] BEST BAND: none [This is the breakthrough award but under a different name, and the bands are both a) actual new bands, and b) crap/not metal.]

INSPIRATIONAL AWARD: Carcass [If Slipknot get more votes than Carcass, then Metal Hammer and their readers will have been exposed as posers. Well, we all know that they're posers already, but a good healthy pointing-and-laughing at the posers' expense is good for the soul. I digress. Carcass have inspired copycat bands, Slipknot haven't inspired anyone to start a nine-man band with gay bondage masks. The same can be said for KISS. This award utilises name-dropping like never before, and while Carcass may be given recognition, I'm convinced that Metal Hammer are only including Carcass because of their Wacken appearance. I bet Mike Amott must be spilling his guts over awards for his Arch Enemy work, however; and, mathematically, Arch Enemy have more award nominations than Carcass. *sighs*]

Overall, I'll boycott the awards this year. How? By getting drunk on the night and forgetting about it.

Because Metal Hammer name-drop, like they did for the inspiration award. They don't bother their arses looking for worthy nominees, in the shredder award or otherwise.

And the Riff Lord and the Shredder awards are the same thing. Alright, riffs and shredding are different, but Metal Hammer doesn't see it that way.

Metal Hammer's a fucking joke. Remember a short while back they had My Rectal Romance on the front cover, then HIM the next month. They'll give stuff like the new Origin and Evile a 3 star rating, and then turn around and say Lamb Of God's the most original band of all time. They only have about 10 bands they ever feature, and almost all are on the hit parade anywho. They're basically like the Tiger Beat of metal magazines now.

Me? I stick with Terrorizer! \m/ \m/

UK METAL HAMMER (I hope your reading this)

Your an absolute joke of a publication. I buy the occasional issue (usually for the free CD's) and they manage to insult my intelligence everytime. Some recent nonsense that i have read is that 'Matt Barlow was Iced Earths original singer' and that 'Buenos Aires is in Brazil!' (I shit you not)

The fact is, Metal Hammer is aimed at 12 year old kids who wear GreenDay hoodies and they champion the bands who appeal to these kids. Its about as metal as plasticine and then they have the gall to call themselves the 'Defenders of the Faith' when they jump on every bandwagon going. I hope they die.

Both Maiden/ Priest are my favorite bands of all time however if you're gonna rate a band consider that Maiden have been recording and touring so much the last years they are truly in top form right now....with Priest I don't see why it takes them so bleeding long to come out with their new album album or at least tour, I've hearing about it for too fucking long......it better be worth the wait

My vote goes for Maiden!!
