METALLICA Rumored For This Year's OZZFEST

OZZY OSBOURNE and METALLICA are strongly rumored to be headlining this summer's Ozzfest, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can reveal. According to our sources, this year's edition of Ozzfest will consist of two separate two-day (Saturday/Sunday) events — one of which will be held in Dallas — in late July/early August, with OZZY headlining one day and METALLICA the other. The rumors come in the wake of this year's arrival of the metal-oriented Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, which will play 30 North American amphitheaters during July and August, the time when Ozzfest is traditionally making its rounds. Last year's Ozzfest offered free admission, with fans acquiring tickets mostly through sponsoring web sites. But the acts were not paid either, which resulted in a decidedly less than impressive main stage lineup. The Mayhem trek has already robbed Ozzfest of two potential main-stage heavyweights in DISTURBED and SLIPKNOT, with fan favorites DRAGONFORCE and MASTODON also taking part in the Mayhem tour. Kerrang.com reported last month that Ozzfest 2008 is strongly rumored to be coming to the UK with a one-off show at London's 02 Arena on July 19. OZZY OSBOURNE, who began a series of South American tour dates on March 30 with KORN and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, looks set to headline the one-day extravaganza. Although promoters and agents involved with the show are remaining tight-lipped, Kerrang.com believes that other bands in the running are KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, ALICE IN CHAINS, SERJ TANKIAN, DIMMU BORGIR and LACUNA COIL.

This is total bullshit. What a way to thank everybody who have been attending ozzfest since '96, Like me! They dont realize people have day jobs that we cant just walk away from for several days to travel unlike them, that will prevent thousands of people who dont live near Texas from going and getting screwed out of an ozzfest after being loyal since it started. Dont know who the dumb fuck is to blame for this but Fuck You whoever it is....if this is true, if its a tour and its coming to or near chicago then i retract.

These guys get rumored every year to be on ozzfest it seems. And every time they end up doing either the Summer Sanitarium, or some headlining tour overseas where there is like 70-80,000+ people who will pay shit loads of money to see them that is how it turns out almost every year. If Metallica does co-headline I will be shocked. And if that goes down and its only a 2 day event in Dallas then fuck Ozzfest cuz thats a bunch of bullshit

same 20hr drive for me from VA/DC area. don't know if I can justify that over iron maiden in MD and priest/heaven and hell in VA. that might be enough to satisfy my old school metal cravings. not to mention poison! ... ok maybe

In all honesty, I think this is bullshit. 2 dates? If there was a high enough demand for it, then there would be a whole national tour. I think last year was such a huge mistake and with there being such huge competition (Mayhem Tour), I think we are seeing the writing on the wall: Ozzfest is dead. I do not even think anybody will even try to hold one next year.

sounds plausible to me, as metallica's schedule is clear at the moment from july 27th to august 14th, and especially if the ozzfest is just going to be a two-day destination thing. they probably saw that they needed something big to come back from the disaster of last year's tour. if this is true it'll come close to how awesome '04 was, when i saw superjoint ritual, black label society, slayer, judas priest and black sabbath one right after the other.
of course none of this effects me as i'm nowhere near TX

James mentioned himself, he's going to be hanging with Phil Anselmo and Down on a few shows around Europe before they head to Reading and Leeds in August, since he's a huge Down (and Doom/Sludge Metal) fan. So I call bullshit on this, plus I hear Lars isnt such a fan of Sharon Osbourne since the Maiden incident back in 2005.

I think it's funny how everyone in the states is bitching about having to travel to see a festival.
Take a look at Europe people. Festivals like Wacken, Dynamo, Party San, etc are all at one location for 2 or 3 days and people travel from all over the world to go to those festivals.
Get a clue. This is nothing different.

I'm tired of people acting like its the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour's fault for ozzfest not touring. the Mayhem tour is only 30 dates.. they dont even play in my state "Ohio" and that bullshit about there being no bands theres 100's of bands out for them to get whatever happened to the old ozzfest that had all those great bands you never heard of. At least we get Rock On The Range here so I cant bitch too much but for real.. It could be just a bunch of bullshit rumor's.

Honesly, Metallica fans just want to see Metallica, not 74 other shitty bands Ozzfest gets. No one even wants to see the 2-3 bands they put up when they tour themselves.
It's been so long since Metallica did a real tour in America, they should do a real tour for their fans, not join the travelling circus and sell tickets for 100 a pop.

Say what you want about Metallica (I only really like five of their albums... and the "black" album is NOT one of them), they always deliver live. Like somebody else said, I'll take Metallica any day over Ozzy and BLS. I know this rumor seems to come up every year, but with Mayhem (which I will DEFINITELY go to), there isn't a whole lot of options for drawing bands. Last year sucked, too (with the exception of Lamb of God), so they need to make up for it somehow. It was only a matter of time. I do agree about the two days thing and how it will suck. Probably just pick the day Ozzy isn't on and go then. Nothing sadder than seeing Sharon's puppet make a fool of himself with Zakk constantly doing drunken pinch harmonics.

I know we all knew about Ozzfest last yr back in Feb, that was a bit different cuz of it being free and all. There was more to it than just buying a ticket and going.
About this being a 2 day fest, that's yet to be seen. I certainly can't go from where I live across the country to Dallas...BUT...

Alright, first of all, I'd like to thank the millions and millions of supposed "fans" that download music. Because of your dedication, Ozzfest is allowing you to travel from all points of the world, to a 1 day festival in texas with bands that, "have a proven track record of sales in a heavily economical stable region".
Secondly I'd like to thank sites like myspace music. Because of your hard work and dedication, most "fans" no longer have to even download music to their hard drive, they can simply stream the songs they want to hear.
Now, for those of you who can't sense a bit of sarcasm in those previous statements I commend you, you stuck it out and listened. Something most "fans" don't have the time in day for. The industry is changing as a hole because of some stupid ass college kid that decided to make a massive file sharing program or a web based community that allows bands to promote themselves free of charge, but in the same sense flood the market with piece of shit music.
Times are tough, labels and the people that support the bands you love, and the bands you may fall in love with aren't making money the way they used to. Nor are the bands. You complain about ticket prices, you complain about merchandise prices, you complain about cd prices, when "fans" are the people causing these things to skyrocket.
The days of summer, where festivals prevailed the US are gone, we are now faced with attending "festivals" that have to have sponsors such as Hot Topic, Monster, Rockstar, Blackberry and so forth to turn a profit, making it increasingly difficult for the smaller bands you may fall in love with to afford to play for the "fans".
It's pretty bad when the people who call themselves fans are complaining about a ticket price, a merchandise price, when they themselves are the ones responsible for the markup on them.
Are we getting to a day in age where everyone thinks it's there birth right to have a computer and highspeed internet to download music?? I mean, seriously.
In closing I'd like to say, for those of you who download music, keep downloading it, we know your not going to stop, for those of you who stream your music, be prepared to start paying for that as well, maybe then you'll complain to the kids downloading it.
