Dallas OZZFEST To Feature METALLICA, OZZY OSBOURNE, RIGOR MORTIS

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET exclusively reported on April 11, this summer's Ozzfest will consist of two separate two-day (Saturday/Sunday) events — one of which will be held in Dallas — in late July/early August, with OZZY OSBOURNE headlining one day and METALLICA the other. Reactivated Texas thrash/speed metallers RIGOR MORTIS have now announced via their MySpace page that they are confirmed for Ozzfest 2008 in Dallas on Saturday, August 9. METALLICA will apparently close out the show this night. RIGOR MORTIS will perform with its original lineup consisting of Bruce Corbitt ( TEXAS METAL ALLIANCE), Mike Scaccia ( MINISTRY, REVOLTING COCKS, BLOHOLE), Casey Orr ( GWAR, MITRA, X-COPS, THE HELLIONS, BLOHOLE), and Harden Harrison ( MITRA, PERVIS, SPEEDEALER). The Ozzfest reports come in the wake of this year's arrival of the metal-oriented Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, which will play 30 North American amphitheaters during July and August, the time when Ozzfest is traditionally making its rounds. Last year's Ozzfest offered free admission, with fans acquiring tickets mostly through sponsoring web sites. But the acts were not paid either, which resulted in a decidedly less than impressive main stage lineup. The Mayhem trek has already robbed Ozzfest of two potential main-stage heavyweights in DISTURBED and SLIPKNOT, with fan favorites DRAGONFORCE and MASTODON also taking part in the Mayhem tour.

A reason to go to Ozzfest. Metallica is still the most metal band out there and in my opinion the greatest metal act of all time hands down. Great to hear, will be there for sure.

I'd go just to see Rigor Mortis, one of the greatest thrash bands in the universe. I pray to baby Jesus their set gets filmed and released as a DVD somewhere down the line.

They have to be pretty fucking stupid to think that people are going to travel hundreds of miles for a tour that already pretty much died last year.
I've been to the last 6 Ozzfests and I enjoyed the hell out of every one of them. But there's no way people are going to travel all the way to Dallas in the middle of the god damn summer for something they could have had less than an hour away from them.
I hope this doesn't spell the end of the summer metal festival. SOTU already died, and god knows how long Mayhem will last.

Ozzfest has sucked the last few years, thats a given, but I still can't believe a tour with Disturbed and Slipknot headlining killed Sounds of the Underground and is going to kill Ozzfest.
If it weren't for the Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead and Testament Tour and the Maiden tour this summer would completely blow.

This means that more than just the Ozzfest in Dallas. So it looks like they are doing a TOUR that will consist of 2 day events. So by adding a day to each location seems like Ozzfest is just getting bigger. Getting Metallica on the bill is huge and the IM'ers would be all over it had little Bruce not gotten egged.
What that actually means is that it will be TWO, and only TWO, 2 DAY EVENTS, and NOT a tour. Next time you quote for us to read, take your own advice!!!!

The other city is in England, not in the us. Ive been to every ozzfest in Chicago area and seen the fest twice in the same year by going to milw. two times. This kills the fest because by taking a year off from touring everywhere the momentum will be lost. Do we really need disturbed and Slipknot to have Ozzfest? There are only freaking 1000 other bands.....Oh well kick me in the balls

The other city is probably San Bernadino. That's always the biggest stop of the tour. Down and The Sword are also on Saturday. Phil will more than likely do a song or two w/ Rigor Mortis.

...what would happen to Ozzfest after hearing about the Mayhem tour (which looks like another crappy faux-metal tour to replace Ozzfest). The last good metal festival I went to was the first SOTU; it's a shame that tour died so quickly. Oh well, I didn't enjoy getting sunburned, dehydrated and overcharged for water at an outdoor metal festival anyway *pouts like a child*

I dont know why all of you have to be such idiots. Have you ever been to an Ozzfest? Even when the majority of the bands suck its still a damn good time, atleast in Noblesville. Whats wrong with having a good time? Sharon this, Iron Maiden that, eggs, sand in my vagina, fukin cry me a river you bunch of pussies. If you dont like it DONT FUCKING GO! To me it was a chance to get fucked up and listen to metal all day with a bunch of other people who also appreciate metal. Ozzfest, thanks for all the great times! Ive been lucky enough to see Pantera, Soulfly, Ozzy, Down, Slipknot, Meshuggah, Mudvayne, Zombie, SOD, Unearth, and was not lucky enough to see the ones with FF, Sepultura, Slayer, Deftones, Primus, Megadeth, Superjoint, Tool, Sabbath and probably so many more. Its so bad isnt it. COONTS.

I like the idea of the two day tour btw. I've always hoped there'd be a cool European style metal fest other than the New England one coming around. Thank God it's in Dallas though, since that is only a couple of hours from me.

Ozzfest sucks...Metallica sucks....metal has no originality about it whatsoever. It's all the triggered drums mixed with Engl or Peavey 6505 amps played through with ESP guitar with 81/85 pickups. There's even a handful of bands that use Randall or Krank which are so shitty sounding that they need an extra special FOH person to get them through the show. It all sucks. Time to move on. No one can tell the difference between any band out there. You're starting to fall within the boy band category of being a cookie cutter corporation.

I wouldn't. She's more evil than any death metal you could ever listen to. As far as metal being cookie-cutter crap...I hate to agree, but it's true. It's turning into rap with all these bands sounding the same. I honestly can't tell the difference between most melodic power metal, death metal, and metalcore bands within their respective genres . If I really wanted to hear growling, whining, and girlish shrieking, I'd probably just visit the daycare my wife works at. Seriously! That's why I still listen to the innovators of metal like Judas Priest, King Diamond (Mercyful Fate), Dio, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Pantera, DeGarmo-era Queensrhyche, Old Savatage, Motorhead, Megadeth, and Early Metallica albums. Nothing compares. There have been a few notable exceptions like Primal Fear in terms of classic metal. Dream Evil is a pretty good Dio knock-off. Helloween is alright. Arch Enemy would be great if they'd stop the damned growling. Killswitch Engage is OK. Lamb of God...kill the cookie monster singing and I might buy an album. Death metal is nothing but cookie monster vocals anyway. No thanks, I'll watch Sesame Street instead. Metalcore..growl then whine, growl then whine, play a brief solo. Pretty formulaic if you ask me. Last but not least, we have Euro power metal. Strattlequeerius, Blind (and tonedeaf) Guardian, Sonata Fartica, DragonFarts etc...boring, boring, boring...yawn. They should just form one metal band in Europe from all their Malmsteen clones and call their first album "Derivative and Boring: A Metal Opera". That sums up the european metal scene for me in a nutshell.

So ive been going to ozzfest for the past 6 years and have seen some damn good shows....this whole bs about a 2 day thing is fuckin retarded. I do however have a feeling that there will be a regular ozzfest tour this year, considering nothing has been conf. on ozzfest.com. As far as metallica being on this show....i say woop-t-do. Fuck mettallica! what seems like every time i turn on my car before plugging in my ipod what do i hear on the radio station metallica. who they fuck are they. they are not Black Sabbath they are not Iron Maiden they are not Judas Priest and they are not Slayer. they have done nothing but got me sick of listening to even a sec of their music. so to thoes of you that arent close to the stops the metallica will be on i say just turn on your radio to your local rock station for a day and i guarantee you all that you will get a metallica concert for free instead of paying out the ass of what they will prob charge you.

Does nobody seam to think that Ozzfest and the Rockstar Mayhem tour can coexist?
If Ozzfest got a good lineup and they set themselves up so as to not show up in the same cities as the Mayhem tour for a time frame of a few weeks or so before or after the Mayhem tour stopped there, than there would be plenty of fans that attended both shows.
Ozzfest could get a great lineup and charge $50 a ticket or more and people would come. *pending a GREAT LINEUP of course.
