BURTON BELL Calls JORDISON 'Sloppy', MORENO 'An A**hole' And OZZY's Music 'S**tty'

Bob Suehs of Rock N Roll Experience recently conducted an interview with FEAR FACTORY/ ASCENSION OF THE WATCHERS frontman and current MINISTRY touring singer Burton C. Bell. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow: Rock N Roll Experience: Is this really MINISTRY's last tour? Burton Bell: Yup! Rock N Roll Experience: Not even a one-off show here or there? Burton: No dude, he's ( Al Jourgensen) done, he's done, and some fans have just got to let it go. Nothing lasts forever, but think of it as a new beginning for Al. MINISTRY is ending, but Al is doing some new stuff. He's talking about finishing off LARD with one more LARD record and finishing up PAILHEAD with one more PAILHEAD record, but he's gonna do soundtracks, working with his label, so he's still gonna be doing music, but MINISTRY is done and he's done. He's been doing it for almost 30 years... Rock N Roll Experience: But Ozzy Osbourne said that too! Burton: Al has more conviction than Ozzy. Rock N Roll Experience: You don't think Al will get the urge to get back onstage again? Burton: Nope...I sincerely believe that he is talking from his heart when he says that he is done. I say more power to it. Rock N Roll Experience: As a MINISTRY fan though, aren't you a little bummed? Burton: No, because I'm still working with him. (laughs) You know, some things must end. Sorry, Ozzy, he's writing shitty music. (laughs) Rock N Roll Experience: But it's all about Zakk Wylde when it comes to Ozzy music for me. Burton: I'm sorry... it sucks! That last song I heard from Ozzy just blew! Rock N Roll Experience: You didn't like "I Don't Wanna Stop" from Ozzy? Burton: Nahhhhh. Come on, dude! Rock N Roll Experience: I liked what Zakk Wylde did on that song. Burton: I don't know... I think it was just weak (laughs), but that's just my opinion and my opinion doesn't really mean anything. Rock N Roll Experience: So what is going on with FEAR FACTORY? Burton: Nothing. Rock N Roll Experience: Is FEAR FACTORY over with? Burton: We're taking some time off to figure some shit out. I ve been doing FEAR FACTORY for 17 years and I need to do something different for a while and everything comes to an end at some point. Rock N Roll Experience: You were speaking recently with Dino [ Cazares, former FEAR FACTORY guitarist]. Is there any chance you'll play with him again? Burton: Dino and I were friends way before FEAR FACTORY, so he came to the L.A. [ MINISTRY] show because Tony [ Campos] is in ASESINO [with Dino], so they are friends and he showed up backstage and there he was and I said, "Hey," and it was like two old friends but I'm not talking any business with him. It felt good; it was cool. Rock N Roll Experience: Did you see the last MINISTRY tour with Joey Jordison [ SLIPKNOT] on drums? Burton: Yeah, that was OK. He's ( Joey Jordison) an OK drummer. Rock N Roll Experience: Come on, Joey Jordison was good! Burton: He's sloppy! Aaron [ Rossi, current MINISTRY touring drummer] is way better! He's ( Joey) good for SLIPKNOT, you know, but...I think Aaron is way better, he's tighter, he's more consistent. Rock N Roll Experience: Have you ever met any rockstars who were a**holes? Burton: A LOT! (laughs) Honestly, Chino [ Moreno] from the DEFTONES. I remember, we toured with the DEFTONES and that guy never talked… I tried to go talking to that guy and he never talked to me, I even went up to him backstage after one of his shows in L.A. and I just tried to talk to him and he was like [does a shrugged off impression]. Rock N Roll Experience: It was probably drugs. Burton: Or he's just a dick! But, he was always a dick to me... I'm probably talking way too much. Can I say this? I'm gonna erase this (points to mini-disc recorder) right now. (laughs) Rock N Roll Experience: If you don't want me to use any of this interview, I won't...let me know Burton: Well, I'm not lying, so... I'm telling the truth, so if he ( Chino) tries to deny it, I'm like, well, "Fuck you." I'll never see him again anyway! I've met a lot of cool people on this current tour...I got to meet some of my heroes like Jello Biafra, got to meet Ogre, got to meet Billy Gibbons. Burton Bell is an ALRIGHT vocalist. Far from anyone with room to talk about Joey Jordison like that though. Joey is easily one of the most diverse musicians out there. He may not be the most successful outside of Slipknot, but he definitely has a good head on his shoulders musically. Look at his work on Roadrunner United even.. his songs were some of the best on there.
As far as Chino goes.. eh.. The Deftones fell apart a long time ago when they decided to turn all their music into pointless whining and recycled guitar riffs.
I hope the Ministry tour goes well.. that's got to be a hell of an honor to play with the originators of industrial.

1. Ozzy doesnt make shitty music, he's the TRUE metal god unlike Lemmy and Halford.
2. Moreno has down syndrome
3. Jordison is a top class metal drummer, he's only second to John Bohnam

It may be very possible Burton was in a pissy mood when this interview was conducted. However, I kinda respect him for being so blunt. Personally I would have just kept that shit to myself. But he's just speaking his mind (and the truth). I agree Joey Jordison is a good drummer just not a good fit for Ministry. Don't know Moreno so I can't comment...he could be cool or not. I know one thing I don't like the Deftones. As for Ozzy, everything he did with Sabbath is amazing. His first four solo albums imo are the only ones worth buying...everything else is crap. Zack is a great guitar player...no doubt but the guitar squeals are getting annoying.

Finally someone that says the truth about Joey Jordison, he's just an O.K drummer. Not fast, not a hard hitter, not anything, just plain average.
Thomas Haake, Hellhammer, Flo Mounier, Dirk Verburen, Peter Wildoer, Daniel Erlandsson and like 10000 others play way better than him.

Of course, he is going to say Aaron Rossi is a better drummer......he's got to say that to keep peace on tour. Dirk Verburen is really really awesome! Actually, him and Joey are prolly my favorite drummers right now. As far as competition or saying who is better or who can play circles around who....it really varies. IMO, I think Joey is a skilled enough musician to play anything Dirk or those other drummers listed above can play. It's not like they would ask Joey "Hey betcha can't play this beat". I'm sure he could if he was asked to...but they all play different ways you know...just like Danny Carey has his own way of playing. It's what they play and the music they play to that you prefer. Calling chino a dick and ozzy's music lacking is fine, but saying a musician who is certainly VERY talented at drums, guitars, and songwriting...sloppy, is just...I guess the wrong word to use. He could have said yeah he's good, but I'm really into this guy. You dont hear Joey saying, "Oh Burton Bell can't sing clean melodic vocals live to save his life. He needs the keyboards to play along to his tones to save him in the live setting". And to those who think Joey sux at drums because he's in Slipknot....do your homework.

He's just open on what a lot of people think anyway. It's not because someone is in a band selling shitloads of albums that this person cannot be an asshole. Actually a lot of them are. There are some genuine individuals here and there but a lot of them are reall arrogant assholes who have very little respect for the people who got them there in the first place...it's a fact!

I agree Ozzy hasnt made a decent record since "No More Tears"
I think Joey is a great drummer but could see how maybe for Ministry he was not the right choice. Ministry is about mechanical tight patterns played over and over maybe he his style wasnt best suited for it.
Chino was probably fucked up on drugs the whole time especially back then. Maybe he thought Burton was a dick and didnt want to talk to him.
Burton you havent done anything impressive since "Demanufacture" so quit pointing fingers and talking shit!

Even if you don't like Fear Factory any more, or don't care for Mr. Bell here, he is quite correct. Ozzy hasn't had anything good in decades. I don't know about Chino being a dick, but hey, sure why not? Fuck the Deftones. They are pretty boring. And there are so many better drummers out there than Joey. Whoop-di-doo.
Even if the last output by FF was pure shit; who cares. Let the guy speak his mind. Even if he was drunk as some people assumed.

Naw, to clarify, i haven't stopped liking them because of the comment...i just don't care for their more recent stuff.
It's fine to speak your mind, but come on, you say some BS like this NOT expecting a reaction?...If he kept his mouth shut about everyone in this interview, it probably wouldnt have even been news...might not even have been published... instead it's an attempt at stirring up some shit...yawn!

It's not like he totally bashed Ozzy he just said he is not a fan of his new music get over it, as for his comments about Joey when I saw FF tour with Slipknot he was on stage kissing Joeys ass and I have read interviews where he praised Joey, I could care less what he says but right now the guy just looks like a hypocrite. As for Chino I love the Deftones but he is an asshole, but I find that weird as both FF and Deftones are friends but hey shit happens I guess

Well Ozzy wasn't always shit, and he sure as hell isn't in it for the paycheck, that dude just likes jamming. Zakks guitar work on it is good, but he is right about the songwriting, pretty shitty on the newer stuff.
Guy shouldn't be taking a shit on anyone though.

something to read on blabbermouth that aint just typical bullshit about buy buy buy our album tickets shirts downloads, sneakers, and countless other crap. I could care less whether Burton is right, wrong, speaking the truth, or speaking out of his ass blind drunk. Just his stirring up some shit intentionally or not, is awesome to read here on blabbermouth. Alittle spice ads some flavor where its been fairly tame as of late...

Unless he knows the guy just hasnt changed and knew what was goin on inside his head at the time then he shouldnt have said/think that about Moreno. I mean god...youre gonna call a guy a dick just because he ignored you on some tour (that was probably years ago) when he could have just been having a hard time in his life and could have become more sociable since then. Seriously, you dont know whats going on inside his head. Just because his bandmates are telling you 'yeah, hes fine, hes cool' it doesnt mean he is. Never heard of the phrase 'bottling things up'? Or maybe he just simply didnt wanna talk to you because you talk shit about people...who could be his friends.

And maybe Moreno is a dick, who knows. Maybe hes heard other similar (and worse) stories...but the fact remains...maybe he was just goin through something at this particular time in his life. Or maybe, as I said, he didnt like him talking shit about people who, not known to Bell, were actually his friends.

I can understand why he says Joey Jordison is an OK drummer...
Herrera is superhuman, an animal, a machine, I don't know but one thing's for sure, a human being can't play like that.
Joey Jordison is a great drummer in my opinion, but he's no Neil Peart, Dave Lombardo or Mike Portnoy.

I SEEN OZZY IN 01', HE PUT ON A GREAT SHOW, BUT I AGREE OZZY'S LAST GOOD ALBUM WAS 'OZZMOSIS'! ZAKK WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THAT SHOW.
I SEEN BOTH 'FEAR FACTORY' AND 'SLIPKNOT' IN 04! FEAR FACTORY TORE THE PLACE UP, AND SLIPKNOT SUCKED BALLS!
WE LEFT EARLY DURING THE SLIPKNOT SET.
AND FOR CHINO AND THE DEFTONES, WELL CHINO'S SINGING STYLE IS LIKE HE IS CONSTANTLY JACKING -OFF!!!
BOTTOM LINE IS THE NEW 'TESTAMENT' ALBUM OWNS YOU ALL.

Burton has a point. Chino is a dickhead, Ozzy's last 4 albums sucked!!!! BUT JOEY JORDISON IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!! Why the hell did Fear Factory have to call it quits now? We need them!!! The Metal Militia across America needs them!!!!

Joey Jordinson is one of the greatest drummers out there.
Sloppy, in reference to him playing ministry songs i think burton is saying. Of course he isnt going to be better then the current lineup.
Ozzy's music has always been shitty

That's for sure, regardless of the bands he plays in (And I like Slipknot): He's not even remotely sloppy.
Burton's being a dick, people commending him for being "sincere" are fucking stupid because he's not being sincere, he's being bitter.
Stop idolizing people in bands and tell it like it is!
I don't know about Moreno and I don't like Ozzy's recent material but whatever, the shittalking is uncalled for.

Funny interview and funny ass thread. My worthless 2 cents...
I could care less what Burt says. These bi-polar, drug saturated egomaniac musicians are all the same. One minute they hate each other talkin hella shit and the next, they are best friends. Burt is entitled to his opinion. I'm sure he'll be partying with each of these guys he bashed in this interview one night and no one will give a shit what he said because just about all musicians run their fucking mouths...like all you bastards. :)
