DISTURBED Frontman Frustrated They Can't Perform New Songs Yet - Apr. 29, 2008
The Pulse of Radio reports that DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has expressed the band's frustration at not being able to preview new songs from their forthcoming album, "Indestructible", due to contractual obligations. He told Rolling Stone's "Rock & Roll Daily" blog, "Isn't that horrible, how things have become? It would be really nice to see how a crowd reacts to the new songs early on, but there's too much dependency on that first week sales number and you can't sacrifice any of the impact of that."

With leaked tracks becoming commonplace, the band's label has nixed all but a few of the songs from the June 3 release for live consumption. The band is currently performing "Perfect Insanity", "Inside the Fire", a new-to-live-audiences b-side called "Hell", and the live debut of "This Moment", their "Transformers" soundtrack tune.

The tour, which kicked off on Saturday (April 26) in Little Rock, Arkansas, hits smaller venues and markets. "It's going to be very intimate. We're going to try to make it special," Draiman said, adding, "It also enables us to get back to grassroots. This is who we are. We started as a small club band. It's a different type of energy."

The band will join SLIPKNOT, MASTODON, MACHINE HEAD and others on the Rockstar Mayhem Energy Tour, which begins on July 9 at Seattle, Washington's White River Amphitheatre and wraps in Buffalo, New York at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center.

think the songs are that bad that they don't want anyone to hear them before the record goes on sale in an attempt to actually sell some records?

I'm not bashing disturbed, I like a song of theirs. I'm just sayin!

The immaturity of these Posts I always see, day-in and day-out, always makes me feel more Powerful. Ok, so, Disturbed has lost their touch a little bit. I'm still a big Fan and can't wait for the new Album. Yeah, I've heard 'Inside the Fire' and wasn't too impressed but still, it is Disturbed. Perfect Insanity is actually pretty good and sounds like typical Disturbed but, this is the only Music they know how to play. Bash them all you want, they make more $$$$$$ than most of us and get more ass than a Toilet Seat! And the gay comments? Give me a break!

Why are they still selling Millions of Albums? KoRn is struggling 'Big Time' right now & Jon Davis's Solo Tour was a flop because their last Album 'Untitled' was a complete disaster (I can say this because I'm a huge KoRn Fan but that last Album has kind of changed my thoughts about them) but, Disturbed is still doing well and a new judgement can be made once their new Album comes out. Album sales will determine their longevity.

That makes absolutely no sense. How would performing the songs live hurt album sales? People aren't gonna buy the album because of leaked live versions? I mean that just makes no sense to me. I've never heard of a band being prevented from previewing new songs for the live crowd, in fact that's generally a great way for bands to test out new material. I just... I don't get it.

first of all to the guy who keeps posting about how great Disturbed is, they sell millions of albums to idiots like yourself not looking for anything out of their music but the feeling that this is 'heavy' and 'technical' as it gets. Am I right? Most of the people bash them on here because it's way fucking harder to pick up a guitar and write some good fucking grindcore than a verse-chorus-verse-bridge bullshit hard rock song.

Honestly, most bands who can write a decent melody and find a singer to sing it will sell a decent amount of records. Stop talking like Disturbed is Zep. when all they do is write the same old watered down nu-metal songs over and over again.

COMMENT | It's just part of the contracts these days.....

It sucks because more bands than we all know actually have to adhere to this obligation. It's ok. Records companies are killing themselves slowly. Only time before the new avenues make their way into the forefront. The shitty contracts that made Disturbed millions but kept them from being able to do little things like this will one day be obsolete.

Amen, finally someone else sees the same thing. And where the fuck is Blabbermouth at? These stoopid fucking comments are posted every single day and yet wasn't this issue brought up some time ago??? BM, do your job

And nyetfall82...grindcore? Are you serious?! Oh yea, let's hit a drumset in a really fast and offbeat manner while our singer grumbles lyrics that no one understands....ooooo, that is supersickcoolshit!!! I'd rather bash my head against sheets of tin foil for an hour.....

You and Hell F'in Yeah should get a room while you're still hot for each other. I'm neither a fan of Disturbed nor Grindcore but I do agree with what that dude said about the complexity of the music. That's the problem with you mainstream listeners, a song would only be considered good if the lyrics are "understandable"...what the fuck??

Thank god that there are others who appreciate the MUSIC for what it is and NOT just the vocal parts...if not we would have been deprived of amazing classical musicians, extreme metallers, instrumentalists and lots of other genres where the vocals are once again, NOT the main criteria of a song.

Has the record company ever heard of building buzz? Of course sometimes shitty movies don't get previewed by critics because the producers know that it sucked and any publicity will be bad.

They have not had time to create backing guitar tracks and drum tracks for the new songs. As soon as they get all the canned tracks, they will do the new songs.

oh, you really got me good with that one...retard

complexity is complexity, not beating a drumhead as fast as possible alongside scratchy guitar rythms. and no, some music is great without vocals, solos and instrumentals can be better than traditional songs. but if you want a track with good music AND someone singing, don't have the vocalist sing as if someone is choking him. that ruins the entire song. and by the way, vocals play a crucial part in songs most of the time

and i'll just end with a simple "fuck you"

The record company had a right to keep the songs hidden so the record will sell well the first week. Those are the only numbers it looks at. It is just like a movie coming out.they can project the numbers and plan thier budget for next time. yes disturbed is mainstream but who cares. Most of us that are in to heavier bands worked thier way from lighter mainstream fare into the heavier stuff. Nobody goes from top 40 into rigor mortis. Dont forget that just because something is underground doesn't mean it is good. Every band that is popular today was underground at one point or another. Plus most of are metal favorites listened to mainstream stuff and they turned out all right.

@ Necrolicious : you can still suck extremely badly but have great marketing skills and a bunch of morons who listen to you and still make it. Disturbed sucks, plain and simple.

@ DBZEROGRAVITY : I'm inclined to strongly disagree with you and say vocals don't play a major part in a song...at all.... I don't think vocals would make or break a song.
