DEF LEPPARD Performs On 'Dancing With The Stars', 'Ellen DeGeneres'; Video Available - Apr. 30, 2008
DEF LEPPARD kicked off the release of its new album, "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge", yesterday (Tuesday, April 29) with a couple of high-profile television appearances on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show".

Watch both performances below.

To coincide with the release of "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge", the group's UK label has launched a new "Sparkle Lounge" microsite. TheSparkleLounge.com gives fans opportunities to listen to samples of the new album, watch the video for leadoff single "Nine Lives", listen to samples of the new album, win Guitar Hero III prizes, watch a trailer for the bonus DVD (UK only), and more.

"Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" contains 11 new songs, including the new hit single "Nine Lives", featuring a collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw. The album includes a limited-edition custom PikCARD, which unlocks the DEF LEPPARD online "Vault" (named after the band's best-selling greatest-hits CD). Inside the "Vault", DEF LEPPARD fans have exclusive access to a variety of content, contests and memorabilia, featuring highlights such as personal photos from the road, registration to the band's fan club, entry into an exclusive contest to win backstage passes and VIP access the next time DEF LEPPARD comes to the winner's town, new album lyrics — handwritten by Joe Elliott — and a personal messages from the band.

DEF LEPPARD has announced new U.S. tour dates that will kick off this August. The dates include cities that the band postponed recently due to an upper respiratory tract infection affecting the band’s lead singer, Joe Elliott.

DEF LEPPARD performs "Pour Some Sugar on Me" on "Dancing With The Stars" (April 29)

DEF LEPPARD performs "Hysteria" on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (April 29):

My mom put on Dancing With The Stars when Def Leppard performed, and there was no doubt in my mind that was the CD version of Pour Some Sugar On Me being played, and not the band playing it live. LOSERS!

Hard to decide which is more pathetic: Miming to a 20-year old recording with the solid gold dancers parading about, or that god-awful live performance of Hysteria.

Hang it up, girls.

With "bands" like Kid Rock, System of a Down, and Korn still running rampant in our society, who's got the time or inclination to pick on Def Leppard?

I actually tuned into Dancing just to hear Def Lep "perform", but they lip-sync'ed the song.

I know that's the European way to do things (even their damn award shows have fake performances), but not in America.

I was almost rooting for these guys until the song actually began and it was clear they weren't "performing" at all... unless you consider acting performing.

Keep in mind joe elliot recently had a bad bout with a respiratory infection. That might explain the lip sync version of pour some sugar on me .....

However I got free tix to see them live in 2000 and the show sounded too perfect. My friend and I actually left early because there was basically no energy at the show. It sounded like we were listening to a really loud cd player. Had no "live" vibe at all...

They should really be embarrassed about this "performance". Do they really need the money that bad?? I don't understand when bands do this. If they has a shred of integrity, they wouldn't have done either of these shows. And the worst part is - they weren't even playing/singing - ala Ashlee Simpson....

I'm not def-ending the crap they've made since 1991. rust me. But It's been in the news that both Phil Collen and Joe Elliott were sick with respitory infections. They had to cancel shows in Canada cuz of it. I mean, he sounds congested on Ellen. I guess after the crappy performance on Ellen management probably suggested they lip-synch on Dancing with the Stars. Doesn't excuse how gay they are now. They ceased being a metal band in 1983 after Pyromania. Hey, why are they on Blabbermouth anyway?

...is decided by the show, not the band - yes the band has to agree to it but its not their preference. Bands often play songs faster live than the original, and being that there was choregraphed dancers, the show probably wanted to use the recorded version of the song that the dancers rehearsed to so they wouldnt be thrown off by a different version/tempo.

Funny though how they have a new album, but don't get to play NEW songs when they get these "high-profile" shows. lol

The reason Def Kitty Kat is playing "or acting" 2 older songs is that Def Leppard has been played by virtually all US corporate radio stations to death over the last 25 years so even if you hate 'em you still will know the fucking songs!!! Hell, I even heard a Leppard song used in a car commercial once. If they played a new one, nobody would know it. Their new material is obviously too weak that they only live in the past from their hits.

Seeing as Iron Maiden and Def Leppard were considered among the top 2 of the NWOBHM bands in 1980 with a successful future it is embarrasing to see D.L. lip sync any song. PATHETIC!!
Iron Maiden would never do that as they have too much integrity and respect for their music and the fans, and that is why they are the best and my favorite and they are still going strong today. They also never followed any trends and to change and plan songs for the US corporate radio stations.

If only D.L. new album matched the style of their old logo!! I agree with whoever said that they ceased to be metal after Pyromania.....

Rick Allen lost his arm. The guy obviously couldn't do what he did on the drums on the first three albums. The first three albums were heavy and hard. They switched to a more synthesized rock sound to suit Rick Allens handicap on Hysteria. Rather than get rid of their friend, a great drummer, and founding member, they structured the band around his handicap. Which created more of a Depeche Mode meets AC/DC sound. They will never publically come out and say that because it would tacky for them to do so. If that's truly what they did, i'd say I respect them for that even if their music is gay now.
