SCOTT WEILAND To Serve Sentence Before STP Tour - Apr. 30, 2008
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland was sentenced on Monday (April 28) to 192 hours in jail for a November 2007 DUI in Los Angeles. Entertainment Weekly has now learned that the singer will serve his sentence, which the judge ordered he do before May 28, and be out in time to commence the band's 65-date reunion tour, which kicks off May 17 in Columbus, Ohio. Weiland's lawyer confirmed this to Entertainment Weekly via Weiland's spokesperson. A statement from Weiland should be released soon, along with further details.

The singer also received four years' probation, was fined $2,000, and was ordered to take part in an 18-month alcohol program. He was potentially looking at a year behind bars for DUI with a prior conviction. At the time of his November arrest, Weiland had just finished a previous three-year-probation for a 2004 DUI arrested. He declined to take a chemical test after the November incident. He was booked and released after posting $40,000 bail, subsequently checking into a rehab facility in February.

Weiland told satellite shock jock Howard Stern last week (April 23) that he is currently working on his second solo album with producer Steve Albini for a November release. Weiland was joined on the call by NO DOUBT drummer Adrian Young, who is also playing on the record. A release date and title have yet to be revealed. Weiland's first solo effort, "12 Bar Blues", was issued in 1998.

Weiland, who was dismissed from VELVET REVOLVER on April 1, has reunited with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS for a lengthy spring and summer tour, beginning at Columbus, Ohio's Rock on the Range festival.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS has tentative plans to enter the studio later this year once they're done with their mammoth summer reunion tour, but fans shouldn't expect to hear any new material in the upcoming trek's live set list. Bassist Robert DeLeo told The Pulse of Radio that the group plans to reacquaint itself and its fans with STP's previous five albums first. "I think new material will come probably after this tour, but I think getting back to the things that got us together, the songs and the material and the reasons we got together in the first place, I think, is a strong place to start, and just make this something that is enjoyable for everyone," he said. "Enjoyable for us, enjoyable for the fans, enjoyable for people that are coming to the show."

Fans are encouraged to submit song requests for the tour set list at the band's official web site.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS officially announced their reunion with a private performance for about 350 people earlier this month at the Houdini Mansion in Los Angeles. The event might be released as part of a DVD.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will perform on the May 1 edition of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

If this was anyone else in this situation, they would have been thrown in a jail cell to rot years ago...and yet this junkie continues to get a slap on the wrist and the freedom to do whatever he wants - which is to go out and do this all over again.

Fuck the legal system and fuck Scott Weiland. STP haven't even played a single note on stage together and this fucker has already jepordized their reunion tour with a jail sentence. What would have happened if the judge actually had enough balls to lock him up for more then EIGHT whole days?

He's a liability for the rest of STP and a fucking waste of a human being.

Think about monkeys, Weiland and STP will genterate millions of dollars of revenue.........

The venues, the vendors, the staffing at the venues, the hotels, the money spent by consumers on food, beverages, t-shirts, gas, tickets, etc etc...

Yes, the system isn't fair, but capitalism isn't fair either...

Scott Weiland gets 8 days for doing something that could could have resulted in innocent deaths, but Wesley Snipes gets three fucking years because his accountant is an idiot. Even Willie Nelson didn't do time, and he owed the IRS millions.

Where i live the judges are so lenient you you don't get much of a sentence at all for 2 dui's

Just last wee some guy was on his 4th dui and the idiot judge sentenced him to 45 days in jail and he didn't have to serve it right away. So of course less than a week later he drove drunk slamed his suv right into the back of a care didn't even break and kill a pregnanat mom and of her kids and injured another.

So in my eyes scotts sentence was about what the average joe gets. Not that I agree with it.

Wrong, I enjoy getting shitfaced as much as the next mofo out there. But unlike many I have enough common sense to leave the car at home and grab a taxi when the bars close.

Easy choice: a twenty dollar cab ride, or a potential $2000 DUI -- not to mention the obvious danger you pose to others when driving drunk. Anybody who makes the wrong choice because they are too lazy or stupid to avoid a monumental mistake like that deserves to be wrecked by the law. Weiland is even dumber than that, though, because he could afford to call a limo to chauffer him around to his dive bars and drug buys but chooses to be a threat to the public instead.

Between a drinking problem and a heroin habit, Weiland's just keeping his name in the spotlight so he can be at the top of the list for a new liver.
