ROBERT PLANT Doing LED ZEPPELIN Songs On Tour With ALISON KRAUSS
- Apr. 30, 2008
|
|
The Pulse of Radio reports that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss recently wrapped up a few U.S. shows and are headed off to tour Europe in May. They'll return this summer to kick off another U.S. leg and are being joined onstage by producer and musician T-Bone Burnett. He tells The Pulse of Radio we can expect a variety of songs at the show, including some LED ZEPPELIN songs. "We're doing 'Black Dog'. I think we're doing some more obscure ones too. We're doing a couple of B-sides. We're doing 'The Battle of Evermore', which is just mind-blowing. And that's something that LED ZEPPELIN never did live. So it's a great chance to do it now with Alison singing the Sandy Denny part. And of course she just kills it." Plant and Krauss are among the more than 125 artists performing at the seventh annual Austin City Limits Music Festival, scheduled for September 26-28 at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. The pair won "Wide Open Country Video of the Year" at the Country Music Television Awards recently for the song "Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)". I'm all for re-interpreting a song once in a while to get a fresh take on it, but I'm not so sure I care for that one. When Zep plays Black Dog, especially live, it is absolutely dripping with that classic swagger. This version just doesn't do it for me.

I really think the only reason Robert Plant is stalling on putting on a full scale Zeppelin tour is his voice won't hold up.

And what the fuck, people......you think that Plant and the boys should just keep doing the same old shit for 40 years? He has the ability to do whatever the fuck he wants, and he's trying something new and pretty cool. Yeah, he could've taken the big pile of cash, been an asshole and cancelled his commitment to Alison Krauss and gone on tour with Zep, but why? He's enjoying doing something different, and you all should commend the guy for it. All you idiots do on this board is wait for all your washed up metal "gods" to reunite because they aren't creative enough or relevant enough to try something different. So let's book our 7th reunion tour!! We'll make a pile of money off the idiots buying tickets to the same show they saw in 1986!!!
And who cares if his voice isn't what it used to be? What the fuck do you expect? He's getting fucking old, man!! But he's doing it in STYLE. Unlike you all in your Judas Priest studs and assless chaps, waiting for the day Halford will dip his bald head in oil and rub it all over your body.
If Zep does get back together for a reunion tour, I'd go see it. But if not, I'll respect that. Cause he seems to be doing pretty ok on his own, doesn't he?

Led Zep did do "The Battle of Evermore" live at least once, 'cause I have a show from LA in '77 that has it. Hopefully, Plant/Krauss will do "Down by the Seaside" and "Brom-Yr-Aur Stomp". "I'm Gonna Crawl" would rule, too.

The man is doing what he wants to do. I think thats great. His voice might not be the best as he gets older, but he is making the kind of music to where we can still respect his talent. You people have to understand the meaning of a SELLOUT. That means you only do what the masses want just so you can make money off of them (Gene Simmons). Robert Plant is not a sellout.

Robert has made this clear to the rest of the band. Jimmy Page needs to move on with his life and try something new. JPJ tried solo work and it bombed. Robert Plant could easily be charging you retards $250 a ticket to fake his way through a Zep setlist and pretend that he is enjoying himself. Instead, he tries something knew, which has had sales of 3 million world-wide, and if you don't like it, he really could give a shit. That gets more respect from me than someone who is in it for the money.

The band has only done one Full set since the passing of John Bonham 28 years ago. I don't know where you're coming up with that one (same old shit for 40 years).
BTW, T Bone couldn't carry Jimmy's pick what a crock. If Robert can't muster up the nerve to play a few more shows with Jimmy, JPJ and Jason why doesn't he stop trashing Zeppelin songs and just play his and Alison's songs.

That was just plain goofy, in my own self-righteous opinion .
Go see the 02 gig to hear a real version of the song.

Reply
Jimmy doesn't need to do another thing his bio is complete, he just wanted to go out and Jam with his mates one more time, when the guys were asked to play the benefit gig the 02, after which it convinced him they still had it. Pagey already had plans to make a new album before the Zeppelin reunion had come about and after jamming with JPJ and Jason he thought it would be great to make the album with the newly reformed Zeppelin. Robert may still decide to do it. Page has to wait for Robert to finish this Krauss tour; which in my opinion can't end soon enough.
