DEF LEPPARD's 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge' Cracks U.S. Top 5 - May 7, 2008
DEF LEPPARD's new album, "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge", sold 55,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart.

To coincide with the release of "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge", the group's UK label has launched a new "Sparkle Lounge" microsite. TheSparkleLounge.com gives fans opportunities to listen to samples of the new album, watch the video for leadoff single "Nine Lives", listen to samples of the new album, win Guitar Hero III prizes, watch a trailer for the bonus DVD (UK only), and more.

"Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" contains 11 new songs, including the new hit single "Nine Lives", featuring a collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw. The album includes a limited-edition custom PikCARD, which unlocks the DEF LEPPARD online "Vault" (named after the band's best-selling greatest-hits CD). Inside the "Vault", DEF LEPPARD fans have exclusive access to a variety of content, contests and memorabilia, featuring highlights such as personal photos from the road, registration to the band's fan club, entry into an exclusive contest to win backstage passes and VIP access the next time DEF LEPPARD comes to the winner's town, new album lyrics — handwritten by Joe Elliott — and a personal messages from the band.

DEF LEPPARD has announced new U.S. tour dates that will kick off this August. The dates include cities that the band postponed recently due to an upper respiratory tract infection affecting the band’s lead singer, Joe Elliott.

didn't love the part of the single i heard. seemed colour-by-numbers to me. they country influence, i guess. seems like marketing move more than anything to have that guy guesting. bon jovi did it too recently. can't recall if nickelback did it, or just focused their marketing dollars on the sub-mason-dixon regions, but clearly the message is that it's a NASCAR world, and we're all just livin in it..

I don't get it with you people who whine and cry when groups actualy sell records. the only thing I can come up with is, it is a different era in rock now where melodic rock isn't "in". meaning if you can understand the singer and the song has a catchy chorus then it must suck since the bands you listen don't have the talent to do that. fine to each his own but the constant rants on stories about leppard and bands that are melodic is getting pretty old. and maybe that's part of the problem to. you just can't stand that a band that has been around as long as leppard and others are still out there making music and selling more than your bands ever will. I have not always liked everything they put out and elliot can be a very pompus ass but that does not make me hate them particularly when the put out a good record like the new one. and one more thing it is not about making an artistic statement when you put out a record,it's about selling as many copies as you can and making money. always has been and always will.

I was really hoping for a flop for this horrid record so that they would do an actual "back to basics" approach for what their fanbase has been dreaming for.

Phil and Viv's guitars are great. Riffs are good and the solos are amazing. I've seen a comparison of Bon Jovi up there? I was the biggest Bon Jovi fan... ask anyone I know! The last album I was so upset that I didn't even buy it. Talk about fan alienation.

So if Def Lep can keep putting out CDs like Sparkle, I'll keep buying them.

As for the new album, I also bought it the day it arrived. Not bad. Better than Euphoria and X, though I would listen to certain songs from those albums.

Doesn't hurt to listen to High N Dry and Pyromania.

Way I see it, the band has to play around to Rick Allen's capabilities. Much better drumming after Adrenalize.

More like the band had play around Joe Elliott's (lack) of vocals. I'm tired of his whispering bullshit. He can't scream like he used to.

1. Def Leppard ahs not gone country, Bon Jovi did though.

2. High N Dry did not make Def Leppard famous, Pyromania and Hysteria did though.

3. Fans wanted a more raw, less overproduced and straight ahead rock album by the band, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is what the fans demanded.

Case in point: The so calkled fans here who do nothing but diss the band are not the real fans.

Pyromania is honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. I also really like High n' Dry, On Through The Night, and Hysteria. I like parts of Europhia as well, most of it actually. However, I hate Adrenalize, Slang, and X. I have a high tolerance for cheese as long as its old-school sounding and not an old band trying to be "modern." What do you think?? Should I pick it up?

1. it's Def Leppard, get it right.

2. if you only sampled the album, your opinion is biased and uneducated, if you have not listened to the whole album, your opinions are worthless.

3. Def Leppard > Dio, the fact is that Vivian Cambell has been in Def Leppard longer than Steve Clark was, and Vivian is better off in def Leppard than Dio.

4. Def Leppard will enevr make another album like On Tghrough The Night or High "n" Dry because it is no longer 1980/1981, it's 2008 and music has changed over the past 28 years.

5. In my opinion Songs From the Sparkle Lounge, Slang and X are better than their 80's releases, why is that? Becuase I find that Heavy Metal gets rather boring, especially with bands like ACDC doing Highway to Hell part 8, and Iron Maiden doing the same thing with Number Of The Beast.

Variety is the spice of life.

It's the BAD variety that sucks and except for 2 songs there's plenty of BAD on Spackle Scrounge.

DefLeppFan1987 -
"and Iron Maiden doing the same thing with Number Of The Beast."

You must not have heard much Iron Maiden because none of their other albums sounds even close to number of the beast except maybe the first two. after the first 3 albums their sound really matured alot. I suggest you you sit down and listen to them a bit more before making a comment like that....

You obviously have not taken a good listen to iron maiden since NOTB, beacause their sound has grown progressively over the years and they have matured, not to mention they can write songs with at least half a brain of thought put in about topics such as war, history , religion, dreams, etc. unlike Leppard.

Let it Go, Let's Get Rocked ....Fa Fa Fa Foooolin!!! WOW, now that's some pretty deep genius lyrics......I could have written something better after 30 seconds than that .............red light, yellow light, green light...GO! should I go on??

You're just jealous because from the time NOTB was released in 1982 until 1993 Maiden released 7 studio albums and Leppard during the same time released only 3 studio albums.......Maiden more than doubled Leppard ....why no new DL album between 1983 Pyromania and 1987 Hysteria album???? 4 Fucking years of NOTHING from them and during their 80's hey day no less!

Last thing: Maiden would also never lip-synch a song like Lepp did on dancing with the stars.....COME ON!!! For fuck's sake you can't still like them after shit like that , Leppard was once a great band now they are just laughable and PATHETIC!!!
