VELVET REVOLVER Drummer Goes To College - May 8, 2008
Anna Gleason of The Lariat reports that VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum came to Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California on May 3 to speak to a full house of students. The event was hosted by music instructor Terry Newman as a special treat for students taking his history of rock classes.

Sorum grew up in Mission Viejo and attended Mission Viejo High School before graduating from Silverado High School. He recalled his musical career starting at a very young age when in 1966 he saw THE BEATLES perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show". After seeing Ringo Starr play drums, he immediately asked his mother for a set of his own.

While attending Mission Viejo High School, Sorum took a number of classes with Newman including, jazz band, marching band and wind ensemble. After graduating, Sorum moved to Hollywood to start his careers.

He explained his journey to becoming a rock start through auditions and perseverance.

His drums never did work for GNR. If there was ever a reunion, I hope he isn't involved.

YE' GODS!

That 'misleading' headline had me thinking: NOOOO - not ANOTHER reality show!

Fuck reality tv and fuck everyone who supports such tripe.

I never thought his drumming worked either. I mean he is a good drummer and much more technical than Adler.

Listen to Rocket Queen then try You Could Be Mine. You can see which one sounds better.

But then again its my own opinion.

No offense to Matt Sorum AT ALL......But how the fuck is a guy like him, thats notorious for copious amounts of drug use, supposed to get through fucking COLLEGE??.

I wish Matt all the best with schooling, and all the best for what evers left of VR!

P.S. I'd love to see a GNR reunion sometime soon!! I know you guys have been talking about it!

Matt Sorum is a douchebag.

Worst drummer GnR ever had.

Ill take Adler or Brain over his spikey hair, frosty tip, whiny girl-like ass anyday.

Matt is a very good drummer in did a great job in GNR, and that is probably the reason Slash and Duff use him today.
and what have his spikey hair, frosty tip, whiny girl-like ass have anything to do with drumming????

If you ARE infact a drummer, then it blows my mind to hear that you feelMatt Sorums playing is superior to Brian 'Brain' Mantia's.

Sure, he's better than Adler. I just threw in his name for nostalgia purposes (and if there WAS a GnR reunion, I hope they would pick Adler)

But better than Brain? Brain is far more technical & creative and has the ability to play onfar more complicated and musically involved tracks than Matt Sorums standard 4-4 Rock songs.

Ill take messy & creative anyday over a human metronome. (Yes, these people serve their purpose, and are "clean" but they lack a certain Flair that I look for in a drummer.)
But yes, as you say, Tp each his own.
This exact debate has been around in music for years. I mean, look at the old Keith Moon Vs. John Bonham debate...
