TRIUMPH Taps Guitarist DAVE DUNLOP For Upcoming Shows - May 10, 2008
Reactivated Canadian rockers TRIUMPH have tapped Dave Dunlop from frontman Rik Emmett's STRUNG-OUT TROUBADOURS project to play second guitar for TRIUMPH's forthcoming shows, including next month's Sweden Rock Festival.

STRUNG-OUT TROUBADOURS' debut CD was honored in the "Album of the Year" and "Best Group/Duo" categories at the 2007 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, where they were the most heavily nominated act. Each member was also up for the "Best Guitarist" award. The group's follow-up album, entitled "Live at Hugh's Room", showcased the acoustic duo in a magical evening captured just before Christmas 2006 at the fabled Hugh's Room in Toronto.

Rik Emmett (vocals, guitars), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards) and Gil Moore (vocals, drums) were destined for stardom when they formed the Canadian hard-rock trio TRIUMPH in 1975. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1976 by Attic Records and quickly reached gold status. On the strength of the group's non-stop touring schedule throughout Canada and the USA, TRIUMPH had rapidly built a large and loyal fan base.

TRIUMPH is scheduled to perform at Sweden Rock 2008 in Sölvesborg, Sweden on Saturday, June 7.

Saw them on the Thunder Seven tour - I believe they had Rick Santers playing second guitar and keys for them. I know that they added a key/guitar player for the later years as the face of hard rock changed and their songs evoved from power trio to a more 80s sound. Even Allied Forces had a prominent key sound in the background. Even when they had the second guitarist, their profile was not obvious on the stage - more in the background.

Triumph is a TRIO and seeing a second guitar player on stage doesn't work. It was the Sport of Kings tour that I saw with Rick Santers and seeing him took away from the whole Triumph experience when compared to the Allied Forces, Never Surrender and Thunder Seven Tours...

NO NO NO

One of the very best touring bands in the 80s, hands down!

They had the best lasers as well, by far.

and it was the CHEESIEST thing I have seen in quite a while.

The 2nd guitarist is about as necessary as the 3rd guitarist in Iron Maiden........

Pretty much took the show that day. However, it was cool seeing all that metal like that.

Do hope Triumph tours the US.

As far as being complex. I agree Rush is more complex than Triumph but where Rush is more complex is not the same a Triumph. In that Emmett writes dual guitar parts and Lifeson pretty much keeps it a one guitar attack. Rush does more blending of keyboards and Neil's drumming is like having 2 guys handling percussion.

By the way Rush was awesome at Nokia on Thursday night. Truly the usual fine show one would expect from the greatest band in the land, RUSH!

Trio OR Phil X - that's it. May as well ask Jeff Waters to be 2nd guitatrist ... wait ... that would be mega-cool.

"The Magic" I think is one of the first power metal songs ever written.

I grew up loving Triumph & Rush equally, and much prefer to see either as a trio. HOWEVER, I got more respect for Triumph going out and getting a second player and keeping it all 100% LIVE than for what Rush has become... the Geddy Lee Background Tabernacle Choir with Alex pretending to be 200 voices drives me nuts (mic is off/turned down except for a few parts throughout the show; it's all Geddy pre-recorded), not to mention the keys, samples, or now even background guitars (see, "Earthshine").

Still love both these bands to death, I'm just saying..
