METALLICA: New Footage From Recording Studio Available
- May 12, 2008
|
|
A brand new three-minute video clip of METALLICA in the studio laying down tracks for the band's much-anticipated ninth full-length album with producer Rick Rubin can be viewed below. One day after a "beta" version of the site went live — only to be shut down a short time later — METALLICA has launched MissionMetallica.com to offer fans a wealth of exclusive content and teasers of new songs. Fans who sign up will be eligible to "win backstage passes to every show this summer," among other special offers, according to Billboard.com. "Mission: Metallica" also has a "platinum" level, entitling fans to a copy of the new album delivered on street date, weekly "fly-on-the-wall" video clips, contests to travel to shows and/or METALLICA's San Francisco compound, live show downloads, ringtones and more. METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told a Los Angeles radio station last Monday (May 5), "We thought, instead of doing the usual DVDs and all that, why don't we just do it on the Internet and people can kind of tune in every day, watch clips, contests, get updates for what's going on with the record and kind of watch the last couple of months of song titles, album titles, final mixes...So it's kind of a little bit of a countdown type of thing. It should be fun." Ulrich also told the station, "Knock on wood, this week should be our last week in the studio," adding that the group expects to get its ninth album out in September. bout time Lars gets his ass ridden on for his playing. Click track is a crutch saying your sit isn't spot on as second nature before you even start recording an arragement. Thats the essence of being "hungry" when you are writing music because you feel it rather than have some machine dictate without the natural waver and groove that belongs in a song.

its funny how people on all the other posts about this site talk about the "haters" talking shit. well they are talking shit cause the music in those videos aint metal its just some radio rock at best. If your going to have the name metallica you would think you would make some metal. i guess when your just worried about making millions instead of pleasing your core audience you put out shit. this will climb the top 40 along with all the fucking shit you get from seether three days grace and nickleback every fucking year and all you "fans" will suck their dicks the whole time while you jump on the bandwagon. SLAYER FOR LIFE atleast they didnt sellout.

It SOUNDED better, anyway. Back to the way it's supposed to sound. I really don't understand the thinking in releasing such a horribly mixed album such as St. Anger. I'm trying to summerize my anger for St. Anger (no pun intended), but I can't put it into words.
Fuck it. Time to go listen to Kill em All!!!!

ahahhaah.....ok do your homework pal; they were a spandex hairmetal band back in the day bro; nothing more than motley crue. Oh, and take a look at some pics of slayer's singer in his high school's glee club right before he joined slayer.
They are a bunch of posers trying to sell records too man, plain and simple. and ANYONE who looks up to Kerry King as a guitar player isn't really a guitar player at all.....he only knows one scale=chromatic jibberish

..is to change your style to be more commercially accessible. I think Metallica has done what THEY want to do with THEIR music since the beginning.
As far as Slayer never selling out, all you have to do is listen to "Diabolus". It's more or less just like Machine Head and their "Supercharger" album. Wanting to tap in to the Nu-Metal genre. None of the albums by any of the three aforementioned artists sound like their previous works, and two of them went back to what they did best.
Bands lose sight once in a while, bands also consciously go new directions like Metallica did. Did KISS sell out when they made "The Elder"? No. It's a concept album from a pop rock band. Same principle can be applied.
Music is art, and art is experimental.

I got Kill em' All in late 83', bought Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets the day they both came out (yes, I'm in my mid 30's). For those 3 albums I was in high school and this band ruled my life. Back then they were part of the underground scene....what a scene it was. ...And Justice For All really didn't sit well with me for years but I grew to love it. The Black album was a hit or miss. With Load, Reload and St. Anger...I totally lost interest and faith in this once epic band. For the first time in many years, I believe Mettalica will finally come out with a great album. Of the very little I've heard...I have new found hope. Rick Rubin is the man if he can't save them....well.

new fans suck because there don't know shit little teenages who would head bang to anything thats heavy

If the mighty Rick Rubin can't get a good (if not hopefully great)( album out of Metallica, they need to just cease recording and tour for the rest of their career on their back catalog (hopefully leaving out Load, Re-Load and St. Anger).
I really hope that this new ablum is good.

I don't want to sound negative, but all this hype is starting to remind me of the months before St. Anger came out. And we all know what happened with that.
Also, the snippets I've heard from all these studio videos just sound like songs off of load or reload.
It's just kind of fast, blues based hard rock...not really a return to form in my opinion. It doesn't blow me away.
However, I'm still in the "Prove me wrong, Metallica" camp.

I wish them luck. Some of what they were working on sounded promising, but not all of it. In these earlier stages that's not the end of the world though.
I don't think this will even hold a candle to Testament's new album. In fact these guys should be forced to listen to that a few times to let them know what's possible.

is that Metallica wanted St. Anger to be a piece of crap so that when they record this album, it will seem like it's the best thing they've done since the Black album. I dunno...maybe that's a bit of a stretch. I just don't want the new album to suck. Sounds pretty good so far from the snippets. James voice sounds much better. The riffs seem really cool too. At this point, I'll take Load 3 over that crap heap called St. Rehab! Any other takers?

I'm so glad that Metallica is not doing masters of puppets again. It's sad the most of the metal fans are so conservative and sentimental to a certain period or album. When they hear something different they just freak out, begin bashing and then play some shit from the 80's to satisfy and purify themselves. What is worst too much fucking bands continue to live in the 80's in the 'safe zone' - when you now what's going to happen, when you know who will like the music, when you know the song structures even before you wrote them, including as much medieval shits as possible in it. Also, the fuckers here are so blind - even if metallica have released Master of Puppets now, not in the 80's, they would bash again. I greet you Metallica, St. Anger was awesome, continue exploring new territories, and never look back. Fuck safety!!!

Hes been there done that and has the mileage and had to settle for having shit not handed to him a lot longer then metallica getting exposure then misusing it to become victims of the record companies and touring on single albums for years on end. Metallica is one band where James and Lars really haven't experienced other band situations other than Metallica. Rob is More versatile as a player and playing in other situations and we all know why hes there outside of a working friendship. Hes kickin it having fun and seeing what happens, hes getting paid and his playing is his own. Suicidal Attitude for live!

That all you people complaining about metallica is such a minority it's funny. I bet you more people love the loads than kill em all. And one thing about selling out you should get is that it's not about changing styles completely, because how can you predict that it would sell. But playing the same freaking music and doing the same album all over again and again is selling out, because you know it will sell... do I need to tell you what bands are doing that?

A couple of half decent riffs and Hetfield sounding better.
The only thing that will let them down is drumming. Lars' drums sound too weak in Metallica. If only Joey Jordison could drum for this album, it would sound epic.
I still think Metallica will deliver a solid album here though. I think it's just a basic metal record- a few crunchy riffs and some fast solos. I'm not expecting MOP,maybe shades of AJFA.
Thing is, we've heard like, a few seconds of riffs from like, 2 songs. There'smeant to be some fast AND slow songs on there, so who knows what we'll get.
Hopefully they don't preview too many clips before the release.
Here's to hoping they deliver a good finished product:)

Right on, what happened to all the heavy bands of the mid-80's,(and before but when they were big I mean) Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, etc, etc, all fell on their respective faces in the nineties while Metallica florished. I am not saying I am a big fan of their music, but Metallica, 1987 Metalliva to be precise are solely responsible for bringing me to the world of Metal and I have had Metal in my life and lived Metal ever since. So for that, I will always be a FAN and RESPECT Metallica, and I would pick St. Anger anyday over either of the Loads, thank you very much...

When was the last time you firmly staked out a message board for the 'highly anticipated' release of the new Rolling Stones album? The new Who album??
Truth is that all "super bands" inevitably fall on the sword of their own success. Hell...the Doors were vilified as sellouts after "The Soft Parade" and "Morrison Hotel" and "Riders" are now recognized as classic albums. Zepplin was supposedly washed up by the time they released "In Through the Out Door" but it doesn't erase their legacy or make them "less cool" as many above insinuate.
"I used to like them but..." is all I read on this board. You know...it is allowed to like a band based on certain albums. Not everything is all-or-nothing in this life kiddies...there are shades of gray (and no, I'm not referring to Biohazard).

COMMENT | sounds the same posted by : jacksonguitarplayer 5/12/2008 10:25:33 PM its funny how people on all the other posts about this site talk about the "haters" talking shit. well they are talking shit cause the music in those videos aint metal its just some radio rock at best.

Alright, heres whats up. Metallica play music. From playing balls to the wall thrash on Kill'Em All to hard bluesy rock on Load and Reload, its all music. Being a Metallica fan and being a music fan can be two very different things. A fan of good music appreciates a bands decision to try new things. Metallica have changed their sound on every single album. Just look at the difference between Kill'em All and Ride the Lightning. Master Of Puppets was their masterpiece, no question, but thats only because they changed their sound again. It was an immense sounding record, and every single track on it is a classic, but it sounds nothing like Kill'em All. Its called evolution. Growth. A prime example of this is the record ...And Justice For All. We would never had gotten the opportunity to experience amazing songs such as One or Eye Of The Beholder or ...And Justice For All if 'Tallica hadn't decided to get experimental. I mean fuck it, look at the Black album!! Through The Never, Sad But Through, The God That Failed, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman!! All songs that would have sounded out of place on ...Justice, but still fucking amazing. The band toured that record for almost 4 years, and the end product was Load. Now heres where the difference between "Metallica fans" and music fans becomes apparent. Load is an excellent hard rock album, but the "hardcore metallica fans" thought they sold out. Why? Because they couldn't appreciate the record for what it was, a hard rock album. The musicality on that album was amazing. It showed that Metallica were writing music for themselves, and I applaud that. It took balls to change so radically, especially since it seemed that they were after coming up with a winning formula, ie The Black album. The songs on Load were, in my opinion, fuckin great. It was great music, not vintage Metallica, but great music. And thats what Tallica were aiming for. They wern't trying to write Black album part 2, that would have been too easy. I was disappointed with Reload, im not gona lie. With the exception of Fuel and The Memory Remains, I thought it was pretty weak. Just goes to show that even the best can make mistakes. But i feel that they rectified that mistake with St.Anger. It wasnt a great record, but it was a step in the right direction. They knew that they were scraping the bottom of the barrel with Reload, so they decided to go back to metal. And you know what, i think St.Anger had a lot in common with Kill'em All. It was raw, unpolished and angry. And I think that their new album could have a lot in common with Ride The Lightning. Theres gona be another change, another growth, where we're gona see the band step up another gear, and write some classics now that they're a solid unit again. I have full confidence in the guys, and I truly believe that this is gonna be one hella awesome record.
To the Metalli-bashers, grow up. If you want a band that sticks to one style, listen to Slayer. To those of you who appreciate good music, METALLICA TILL WE DIE!!
Peace and love.

jvm138: Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth all released good albums in the 90's not metallica but metallica still sold so much because you metallica fans have so much Metallica blindness that you just bought every crap they put out. they havent done a good album in over 10-15 years, even more since Master of Puppets, Black album only has 3-4 very good songs, the rest is just ok. and Load was not a good hard rock album either. saw them live 2 years ago and i have seen so many bands much much better live then them, and they even played the whole of Master of Puppets.

But, like Madonna, went to a level of fame way beyond their actually quality. That is what explains their career. Getting and holding a large audience doesn't correlate to quality. Kreator, Destruction, Slayer all out-play Metallica or Megadeth, but just don't have the larger market appeal.
Really, Metallica are a hard rock outfit that played thrash for awhile, whereas the other bands mentioned are thrash bands.
I think Metallica were the Led Zepplin of their generation--start out hard, end up playing mandolins.

Get the fuck out of here man. People buy music because they enjoy it. The black album sold well and even though YOU don't like it doesn't make it bad.

That sounds like classic Priestish metal to me! Which is kind of weird but cool anyway, like they are going waaaay back. Anyway Metallica were never the heaviest or the fastest they just wrote the best songs. Cliff is the one who made them be great song writers first and do more than just play fast. Because of this, LOAD was inevitable as was the Black Album. Metallica are just really good at writing heavy catchy metal/rock songs that are also smarter than the average heavy catchy metal/rock song. For them to deny their talent to write metal songs that have massive world appeal in order to impress Slayer fans would be selling out as well as really pathetic and stupid. Why deny your true nature? Why repress your talents for a bunch of bratty metal heads who don’t even really give a shit about whether the band is even inspired or not? Metallica are easy to defend because they have always been honest about who they were. It wasn’t like they wanted to write Master of Puppets II in 1996 but were forced to write LOAD. No, they wrote LOAD because they wanted to. I’ll take a band that is coming from an honest place like Metallica any day as opposed to a band who plays the music they think their fans want to hear but they themselves don’t care about anymore but they are too afraid of their own audience to take any risks. For the record I think SLAYER is a perfect metal band and have no reason to fuck with their own sound because they are defined by speed and evil and being metal as fuck forever…So chew on that kids!

Selling out is when a band like Metllica for example, get famous for making it on their own terms and making music that is not commercial or something that the public would usually buy, and then you make a big hit record with a more simpler songs and some ballads like nothing else matter and start making more music like that or whole albums, and making some rock thats popular at the radio at that peroid of time. AC/DC have never sold out they just played their music all these years and it's popularity have come and gone but still they have their fans and are not trying to be something else!!!! and also Metallica was always bashing Motley Crue for being this and that but when it was realy themselfs that they should be bashing. Motley never sold out and when they did different things they didnt suck!!!! the Motley Crue album is a great hard rock record, not load or reload!!! and Sixx used the 58 project and Sixx A.M. to do something different form the Crue and Tommy Lee did it also with his projects but Vince Neil did more of the same, bacause it was safe, so maybe he's was a little sellout!

Metallica is only the biggest band to most of you fans because they are (or where) big in America, and big in America means to most people big in the world, however bands like Maiden have actually sold more albums and played to more fans worldwide........
I won't sit here and write "Metallica sucks" cos I don't really hate them but It's fair to say they have not produced a solid metal album since the black album......i just think they are really overrated, I could give them 1 more chance but I think their best chance is to get rid of Ulrich (ASSHOLE!) and get a new drummer. Newsted was smart because he left 'em........
