OZZFEST Returns As One-Day Stadium Festival With OZZY OSBOURNE And METALLICA

All eyes and ears will be on Dallas, Texas Saturday, August 9. Ozzfest — the original and iconic hard rock festival — returns in 2008 as a one-day stadium spectacular that teams Ozzfest founder and namesake OZZY OSBOURNE (in his only U.S. concert appearance this summer) with METALLICA (marking their Ozzfest debut). ( BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on February 26, 2008 that Ozzfest was turning into a "destination festival" in Dallas. BLABBERMOUTH.NET also reported on April 11, 2008 that METALLICA was strongly rumored to be taking part in this year's event.) "We're going to be a stadium destination festival for now — we have gone past doing the sheds every summer. We've given everyone else the blueprint and we have to keep evolving Ozzfest. This is just the beginning; AEG Live and I have a lot of new ideas for Ozzfest." This year’s dynamic line-up encompasses artists who've played Ozzfest before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian ( SYSTEM OF A DOWN); Jonathan Davis ( KORN); HELLYEAH's Vinnie Paul ( PANTERA) and Chad Gray ( MUDVAYNE); KINGDOM OF SORROW's Jamey Jasta ( HATEBREED) and Kirk Windstein ( DOWN); and Max Cavalera ( SOULFLY, SEPULTURA) of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. Other Ozzfest graduates include SHADOWS FALL, SEVENDUST, DEVILDRIVER, DROWNING POOL and IN THIS MOMENT. " Ozzy has great relationships with all of the bands that have played Ozzfest," says Sharon. "We're the only real festival for harder edge bands and these artists have been very loyal to us — there is lots of love on this lineup." Tickets for this year's Ozzfest will go on sale Saturday, May 31. The Ozzfest announcement comes in the wake of this year's arrival of the metal-oriented Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, which will play 30 North American amphitheaters during July and August, the time when Ozzfest is traditionally making its rounds. Last year's Ozzfest offered free admission, with fans acquiring tickets mostly through sponsoring web sites. But the acts were not paid either, which resulted in a decidedly less than impressive main stage lineup. The Mayhem trek robbed Ozzfest of two potential main-stage heavyweights in DISTURBED and SLIPKNOT, with fan favorites DRAGONFORCE and MASTODON also taking part in the Mayhem tour. (Thanks: Poobobo)

Except for last year, Sounds of the Underground has fucking owned Ozzfest. (Sorry, last year's SOTU sucked platypus scrotum - too many emo bands/kids - and I won't even talk about "Necro").
SOTU normally has MUCH better bands on the tour. Plus, that's the only tour I've been to in years where tshirts are still $15 and not the usual $30 - $40 bullshit.
Just my $0.02.

This is offensive, not even a date close to the east coast, I live in CT but have gone from NJ to Mass. to get to Ozzfest, fuck him, and the stupid shit, after enduring his shit performance last year where he lip-synched have the choruses I'm glad I don't have to see his old ass make a fool of himself anyway, I have not a missed an Ozzfest since it became a national tour, now I am gonna check out the NKOTB reunion!!!

That's pretty generous of Metallica, to go on before Ozzy. I know Ozzy is the prince of darkness, blah, blah, blah, but Metallica is bigger than Ozzy/Sabbath combined. Not many bands can touch Metallica live! Well, Ozzy went on after the mighty Maiden, and look where that led. Watch out for the flying veggies James!!!!!!

Outside of the 3 or 4 decent bands on this year it's nothing special but hey, if it came through on tour I'd probably go for them. But Ozzy is getting old and if this is what he has to do than so be it. I just wish Sharon would stop calling the shots for him.

I agree that all of those bands are wretchid piles of emocore crap with the exception of All That Remains. I'm pretty die hard metal but for some reason those guys have kicked ass every time I've seen them. In fact...they may be the only "metalcore" band that I really really like.
As for this year's Ozzfest....WHAT THE FUCK?????? I have gone to the last three Ozzfests and only one of them has sucked...and that was the first one I attended with Maiden. Maiden should NOT play when it is still fucking daylight and their sound was complete shit. Thankfully I am seeing them in June in a proper setting. But what is this bullshit? One date??? In TEXAS????? Fuck Sharon with a frozen vomit fuckstick.

I think it sucked for Chimaira, Shadows Fall, and Gwar since they had half the crowd to play to.

You have The Sword and Witchcraft, both amazing bands. Metallica will be good live and you can't discount the great Rigor Mortis. I will be there -- I live in DFW! Sucks for the rest of you!
I can do without most of the bands though, so I might go early for a few bands then leave and come back late for Metallica.

I just saw The Sword for the second time last Friday night with Torche. The Sword kick all kinds of ass live. Took my drummer and he thought it was the best live band he's seen since Pantera.

Lineup is pretty *yawn* but some decent bands up there. Should be stronger at the top end/mainstage portion of the bill, though. Metallica alone won't make people travel for this show. Adding Priest or even Heaven and Hell (as if that'd happen) would help.
Seeing Metallica open for Ozzy in '86 was a once-in-a-lifetime deal. I don't want to sully that memory by seeing this "update"...although I'm hopeful that extra rest will help Ozz put on a great show. He needs to have a well-reviewed Ofest this year or stick a nail in it.

If I didn't live with in earshot from the venue (Pizza Hut Park, terrible name) I would be pissed too, maybe I'll stand out on my balcony and listen to the show instead of paying (what I'm sure with be in the hundreds) cash to go see this. I would like to see Witchcraft, The Sword, Metallica and the Dime tribute though.

It's funny that Ozzfest is supposed to be "hard edged" bands and metal, yet Metallica is playing as the headliner.
Metallica has become an alternative style hard rock band that left their roots, jacked up their ticket prices, and whined about people downloading.
June 12th I'll be seeing Iron Maiden. When I saw them last on their tour with Dio and Motorhead, they encouraged people to record their concert and put it out on the internet. I'm pretty sure they are not worried about squeezing every last penny out of their fans.
Up the Irons!!!!!!!!!

Those dropping sales couldn't have anything to do with the whole Iron Maiden fiasco. It's just sheer coincidence Ozzfest is struggling more and more, while Maiden sells out shows across the globe, from Honolulu to Beijing.
Sharon can have a smug "haha I was so right, take that, Bruce!" approach, but I'm not too big on spending $100 on tickets for a band only to have the organizer completely ruin it childishly. Plenty sure fans at that show spread the word quite fast, and here's Sharon completely oblivious to the fact. And there's Ozzy in the back too fucked up from drugs and the shakes to even notice, as he bumbles his way into another round of Sabbath hit parade.
Pretty sure her slamming of Dio and threatening Heaven And Hell isn't helping the festival. I'd take a good guess that Dio (a far better vocalist than Ozzy) with Black Sabbath would be a good draw, no?
Plus.............wasn't Nile supposed to be on Ozzfest?!?
Totally watered down, unprofessional, blah blah. But I wouldn't mind getting a nice forehead shot on Sharon with one of those overpriced cans of Budweiser or Jager.

Should be at Alpine Valley. One of the biggest venues, and easier for people in surrounding states to get to!!

Some pretty cool bands (except Metallica). Tickets will be $25,000.00 for the night because of the "heralded" debut of Metallicrap on an Ozzfest tour.

i live about 4 hours from dallas, and this line up is complete shit, the only good bands are soilent green and goatwhore oh and devildriver, other than that this is probably the weakest line up they've had yet.

Id love to know when All That Remains got classified as emo...
Anyway, too bad they won't do it here in NYC. I'd go mainly for Metallica. Some of the other bands are decent, but this festival looks pretty weak compared to the Rockstar fest.

Ozzy! Metallica! Together on the same stage??? I am so there! It's gonna be the best fuckin' show since.....oh, what's that you say? I didn't fall asleep and wake up in the year 1986? Uh, in that case I'll pass, thanks. Think I'll spend my $$$ on Maiden, Priest, and Sabbath instead - and hear 3 singers who still have their voices.

i agree SOTU sucked last year. it probably will again this year. summer slaughter is where it's at. ozzfest is fucking pathetic. I wouldn't pay a dime to see any of those bands. metallica has evolved into total garbage. they may as well throw slipknot or some other washed up shit act onto the stage.
all I can say is what the hell happened... they finally started having some good bands (like Nile) at ozzfest and now they bring it to texas and put up the lamest lineup in the entire history of ozzfest. f this. i've been every year since 99 and I won't ever be going to one again.

Im from TX and think its cool of em to have it here (though im in the Houston area) but WHY Dallas? If youre only gonna have 1 U.S. Ozzfest then WHY Dallas? Why not NYC or Chicago or L.A.? Where theres more people who could attend without having to drive forever.

the last great band was Maiden in 2005 period.....sharon fucked with them as you all know and now they have only shit bands anymore. Ozzy could not even sing the second night here in NJ and Maiden did a 2 hr. set instead of 1 hr.......hum who was the headliner??? Sharon should thank them since they didn't have to play 2 hrs. oh yeah, Maiden doesn't use prompters like Ozzy since he's too fucked up to remeber all the right lyrics.....lame!!
Fuck Ozzfest, fuck Sharon.... I'm just seeing Maiden and Priest this summer!
