MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Says A PERFECT CIRCLE Is Still Alive - May 13, 2008
The Pulse of Radio reports: TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan sent an email to fans last week in which he said that A PERFECT CIRCLE, the band he formed in 2000 with guitarist Billy Howerdel, is still a going concern even though both Keenan and Howerdel are both now involved with other projects. Keenan wrote, "As many of you may have heard, Billy and I are engaged in our own little projects for the moment. His is called ASHES DIVIDE and mine is called PUSCIFER...Please be advised that A PERFECT CIRCLE and TOOL are still alive and well. This is simply MORE." A PERFECT CIRCLE went on hiatus in 2004 after issuing three studio albums and one live set, while Keenan went back to work with TOOL and Howerdel began assembling ASHES DIVIDE.

ASHES DIVIDE's debut album, "Keep Telling Myself It's Alright", was released last month, with Howerdel unveiling the project's touring lineup this past weekend.

Keenan issued the debut PUSCIFER album, "V Is For Vagina", last fall, and continues to work on additional music for the project.

TOOL's latest album, "10,000 Days", surfaced almost exactly two years ago, and Keenan has said recently that the band could regroup later this year to begin work on its next effort.

Howerdel told The Pulse of Radio last year that he wasn't really sure whether A PERFECT CIRCLE would ever be reactivated, saying, "We might do something in the future, but all I can see is ASHES DIVIDE right now. That's kind of all I have in front of me."

I really would love to see A Perfect Circle come back. I loved both Thirteenth Step and Mer de Noms. But eMotive was questionable at best. Not too crazy about Puscifer, either.

Perhaps any new material they come up with will reconcile eMotive's massive failure.

Then again, maybe Chinese Democracy will be out sometime before never.

Or Metallica will miraculously rise from the ashes of St. Anger.

Here's to hope.

Yes, they had a few good tunes, but largely this band does nothing but keep TOOL from being more productive.

Im Glad to hear this, Ive been listening to them for 4 years and havent gotten sick of their albums, I do like Tool better but both bands are amazing and I would love to hear something new from APC, I mean Emotive was good but I wish they would have had more original tracks to close off the band for a while. Guess we'll just have to see what happens, Id prefer a Tool album over APC but both are amazing.

This is great news! These are both incredible, original, emotive, passionate, and heartfelt bands. This is real music. Maynard is a fucking lyrical and vocal genius in every sense of the word. I don't give 2 shits about the BS politics behind it or whether or not there is a money making conspiracy - WHO GIVES A SHIT? That is not effecting the music here. And for you morons up there who bitch and whine about this being for money - Who are your favorite bands? You think they're not trying to make money? You think they don't want to make a living like MJK and Billy and crew? Maynard never will change his style for money. This guy fought with his label INSISTING that he write 12 minute songs and do whatever the fuck he wanted! If you think that APC circle resembles Tool then you are deaf and I shouldn't even be responding to you. This ain't an opinion either, it's a fact. They sound nothing alike except for Maynard's voice and the useage of guitar effects. Parody? Tool isn't effected i the least bit soundwise because of the existence of APC. Where do you come up with this shit? All about the money. That's great. Because a guy becomes famous from demand of the fans, he is all about the money. That's great. You would be too if this is what your profession is. BUSINESS IS ABOUT MAKING MONEY. THIS IS HOW WE MAKE LIVINGS. JUST BECAUSE HE MAKES MORE THAN OTHER MUSICIANS DOESN'T MEAN HE CHANGED HIS STYLE. I guess any band that makes money is now a sellout to you too right. That would be a shitload of the best bands ever. They got there because PEOPLE FUCKING LIKE THEM. They are good at what they do which is how you do your job. Money and success does not have to equal "sellout" status. Who cares anyway? If the music is good then it's good. Grow up.

COMMENT | Tool Fans can be APC fans too ya know!

I'm sorry, I just don't see how anyone could say "APC sucks". Granted they are nothing like tool but being a musician myself I can definitely appreciate their talent!

It must be APC 's Softer tones and maybe less aggressive riffage as well as the actual use of melody's.

Not all tool fans are hard core metal heads who want to hear nothing more then the sounds of complex double kicks and heavily distorted guitars on top of screaming angry vocals. Some of us can actually enjoy the softer side.

Maybe one could compare some of APC's music to the act of making love where as tool is more a hard pounding of some dirty stranger in filthy gas station bathroom?

yes I would love to see more from from them. It would be a shame they never tour... Ive seen them twice, and was very impressed. Not only by their performance but of the crowd that came to see. They were more mellow and the females were very into open dancing and hands did tend to wander.

maybe it was the X?
