FILTER Frontman: 'I Challenge People To Listen To My Record From Start To Finish'
- May 13, 2008
|
|
|
The Pulse of Radio reports: FILTER unveils its first new album in six years on Tuesday (May 13), titled "Anthems for the Damned". The CD is the first under the FILTER banner for singer and songwriter Richard Patrick since 2002's "The Amalgamut". Although he hasn't released a FILTER album in a while, Patrick told The Pulse of Radio that "Anthems for the Damned" features same trademark diversity as the group's previous efforts. "It's for people that have an extensive, eclectic CD collection," he said. "Or, you know, when you listen to your iPod, it's going from different — you know, it's like an iPod on shuffle. It starts in one place and it ends on another, and that's where it is for me as an artist. I want my music to be diverse and I challenge people to listen to my record from start to finish, because I do want them to experience everything that I can offer."
Following the release of "The Amalgamut", Patrick spent some time away getting sober before returning in late 2006 with ARMY OF ANYONE. That project, which also featured Robert and Dean DeLeo of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, issued one album and toured for several months before going on hiatus.
Patrick described "Anthems for the Damned" as "a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn't exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart."
The CD features guest appearances from ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5, former LIMP BIZKIT axeman Wes Borland and A PERFECT CIRCLE/NINE INCH NAILS drummer Josh Freese.
A video for the first single, "Soldiers of Misfortune" premiered Monday morning (May 12) at Yahoo! Music, with Patrick saying in a press release, "This song is a pro-troops, anti-war song and the video shows how this country is being consumed by its need for oil."
The new live line-up of FILTER will play a record release party in New York City on Tuesday before heading to Royal Oak, Michigan on Friday (May 16).

Would I be able to survive a whole Filter record? I doubt that as I can barely stand one song of the stale old junk these guys deliver. Go listen to you own album dude, I don't care for your trite songwriting!

Great album, and its good sometimes that albums are challenging, like TOOL, Mars Volta, Dream Theater and more, and its good also sometimes that bands are not that challenging, just normal norck n' roll bands.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Title of the Record went on to sell at least a million copies. And, once again correct me if I'm wrong here, that came out well after their first album since it's their second album. Also, didn't Hummer pay Patrick a silly amount of money for use of their single of the third album in a commercial??
Seems to me plenty of people gave a shit after 'Hey Man' was old. Maybe just not you.

Title of the Record is one of my all time favorite albums, bar non. The Amalgamut fell well short of the mark, and this one even further. I liked certain aspects of Army of Anyone, but Richard Patrick has been trying to create the next Take a Picture since Title. It won't happen again, please don't become the 90s version of Def Leppard, cut out all of this ballad crap, because you aren't going to sell albums based on this. Bands fail to play to their audience, and would prefer to look for that fleeting top 40 hit that is no longer there. The industry has changed, the top 40 fan has changed, they will never return. Put some balls into it, and put something decent out for Christ sake!

Filter is one of those bands that is easy to talk shit about because all the idiots know "Hey Man Nice Shot" but don't pay enough attention to the albums. The Amalgamut has some of the best Filter songs. If you don't like "The Missing" you are obviously an idiot and have no idea what Filter is about as a band. There are plenty of other shittier bands you could waste your time slagging on here. I'm sure the few real Filter fans will be happy. Too bad Army of Anyone ended too, that was another really good album not intended for blabbermouthing stupid peoples.

nickbreed - you want a man to do that to you? Very un-metal yourself.
The song 'You Walk Away' is near enough to Metal - Filter is news worthy on this website.

Obviously there are alot of haters on here. Thats fine but quit downing this band like they are britney spears or some shit, this band is musically one of the best. i like this album, its pretty solid, and you have to really listen to it to get the message, and someone did point out something true, todays generation is all about "brutal" riffs and heavy guitars and all that shit, yeah thats cool, but its too repetitive, this is REAL music, you can voice your opinion but seriously just cause its not heavy doesnt mean it sucks, its suppose to be diverse like Patrick said, and I "challenge" all of you to open a fucking ear and give it another listen!

I've seen them twice. It seems like Richard needs to get back on the sauce. Same with James Hetfield.
I do not mean to support that, but at the same time, if that's when your best music was written, then go back to what inspires you to be at your utmost best.

He's probably saying this because of the second to last song.
I listened all the way through, but skipped the second half of the second-to-last song. ITS REALLY BAD! I challenge anybody to finish that song as well.
I listen to a lot of stuff, and man that song was sooo terrible. Some of the other songs are good though.

... ya DUMBASS. I sampled it at a local record store and it sucked. i listened to small portions of the first few songs, which was plenty for me. Maybe it hurts my 'open mind' to always finding this nad lame and uninterresting, but this album sure doesn't do anything for me. Sorry richie, i failed THE CHALLENGE!
