METALLICA Plays Benefit Show In L.A.; Setlist Revealed, Photos Available - May 15, 2008
METALLICA played a benefit show last night (Wednesday, May 14) at the 2,200-seat Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the show will go to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a nonprofit music school for low-income students that was co-founded by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea. The opening act was SCARS ON BROADWAY, the new group featuring SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan. Money raised from the show will go towards programs, operations and scholarships at the school, as well as a summer camp program and funds for a new building.

METALLICA's setlist was as follows:

01. Creeping Death
02. Fuel
03. For Whom The Bell Tolls
04. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
05. ...And Justice For All
06. Sad But True
07. Disposable Heroes
08. One
09. Master Of Puppets
10. Battery
- - - - -
11. Last Caress
12. No Remorse
13. Enter Sandman
- - - - -
14. Fight Fire With Fire (with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' Flea)
15. Seek and Destroy

Tickets for the show went on sale last weekend at $200 each, with limited VIP seats available for $500.

METALLICA will also play this week in Tucson, Arizona on Friday (May 16) and Irvine, California on Saturday (May 17), both radio festivals. The band is also one of the headliners at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival in mid-June.

As previously reported, MissionMetallica.com launched on Monday (May 12). A montage of clips from the band's history, as well as a shorter collection of footage from its recent studio sessions, were posted at the site, along with short excerpts of at least two new songs. Other bonus content and exclusive offers will be made available at the site, although it's not clear if and what fans will have to pay.

The new METALLICA album is due out this September. Its classic 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", is being reissued on heavy-duty vinyl on June 17, the third in the band's series of vinyl reissues.

James said they had to play "Fuel" because it gets them pumped up, so to speak.

This looks awesome, I can't wait for the new album.

At 200 bucks a clip, i don't think think there would have been too many people moshing or crowd surfing. Besides, on the Black Album tour, Metallica did not take out an opening act until the summer of '92, when they toured with FNM and Guns 'n Roses. FNM was actually in the studio around that time anyway, so they wouldn't have been available. Don't try to bullshit that sort of thing here, you will be called on it. Besides, to shell out 200-500 a seat for a band you don't give a shit about? One last thing, I don't think Metallica has EVER opened with Am i evil? It's a cover tune.

Yeah, drop Sandman, drop the song that pretty much everyone wants to hear. Oh yeah, and Skynard needs to stop playing "Freebird" and Deep Purple "Smoke On The Water". Idiot.

They've opened with covers before... Breadfan for one.

So I'll quote your own words.

"Don't try to bullshit that sort of thing here, you will be called on it."

I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME THEY PLAYED THAT.(EXCEPT OF COURSE ON THE RIDE THE LIGHTNING TOUR) AND WITH FLEA AND ROB ON BASS TOO? THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THICK AS FUCK. I THINK I'LL HAVE TO LIFT MY BOYCOTT ON SEEING THE BAND LIVE. THE LAST TIME WAS WITH FAITH NO MORE ON THE JUSTICE TOUR. I DON'T MIND IF THEY THROW A COUPLE OF CLUNKERS IN THERE.(AS LONG AS IT'S JUST A COUPLE) IT WILL GIVE ME TIME TO GET WATER AND TAKE A PISS.
