METALLICA: Wiltern Soundcheck Photos Posted Online
- May 15, 2008
|
|
Legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin has posted a number of pictures taken during the soundcheck at METALLICA's benefit show last night (Wednesday, May 14) at the 2,200-seat Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. Check out the photos at this location. All proceeds from the concert will go to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a nonprofit music school for low income students that was co-founded by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea. The opening act was SCARS ON BROADWAY, the new group featuring SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan. Money raised from the show will go towards programs, operations and scholarships at the school, as well as a summer camp program and funds for a new building. Check out pictures from Film Magic, Getty Images. Tickets for the show went on sale last weekend at $200 each, with limited VIP seats available for $500. METALLICA will also play this week in Tucson, Arizona on Friday (May 16) and Irvine, California on Saturday (May 17), both radio festivals. The band is also one of the headliners at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival in mid-June.

They seem so happy and so at peace. I really think this album will be special. People will undoubtedly bash it and say it is not Master or not heavy enough or forced or like Load or some other predictable crap, but these guys are what metal is all about. They are the backbone of the entire thrash movement and bands like Pantera and Anthrax and Testament and Death Angel ought to thank Metallica because without them their music would never have left the club scene. People that stopped listening to them after Justice have missed out on great music. Metallica has dared to be different and never sold out by playing the same riffs over and over again like a Slayer. Metallica have stayed true to who they are even if considered unpopular. They will be looked upon years from now as the greatest metal of all time if not there already.

I will be getting my yearly Metallica Live fix in the beginning of June at Rock am Ring in Germany. Hating Metallica means you have issues and need to see some professional about these issues. Load and reload are not in my CD or MP3 collection, but Metallica live is still unbeatable

Because they're my all-time favorite band and I wouldn't even be listening to any other band now be it a metal, rap or techno artist..be it Moby, The Chemical Brothers, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Satyricon, Spawn Of Possession or Drudkh if it wasn't for Metallica. I owe those guys too much for opening my eyes to music.
If you didn't grow up listening to Metallica then I would understand why you feel that way.

Yeh, sure.
I like good metal as much as the next person who likes good metal, but come on, you're not even trying.
You might as well have said "Thus defiled, burzum & black widow" (look it up)
Whilst I no longer class Metallica as the best band musically in my world, the fact is there are very few bands who have had as big an influence on me as them (the others would probably be, off the top of my head: Opeth, Anathema, Devin Townsend, SFA, Atomic Rooster)

Shawnathan Mory is just after top metalhead points. He gets double for slagging of Metallica and mentioning Bathory and Possessed in the same sentance.
Someday people will realise that all their bashing is getting them nowhere, Metallica will still be the greatest metal band of all time and have influenced millions of people to pick up instruments and start their own bands. You can love Metallica and still enjoy the likes of Bathory, Possessed, SYL, Belphegor, Iced Earth, Dark Angel etc.

Shadowalk said it all for me. If it wasn't for these guys opening my eyes and ears to MetaL I would be probably waiting for the new Duran Duran album. Metallica opened my eyes to other bands such as Anthrax,Slayer,Megadeth,Misifts, etc.
I grew up with these guys and owe them alot.

And of course, what would Mission Metallica be without the addition of a couple o' shots taken by Rob?

That's right bitches.. this album will fucking destroy. And even if it doesn't it's still fucking Metallica going back to their roots and that makes it bad ass all by itself.
Just from the snipets, you can already hear the Black Album and Justice influence. These guys just don't have it in them to make another shitty album, I know it.

God I wish I never heard of either of those bands... they both sound like they were recorded on the inside of someones asshole. I guess you're not metal unless you refuse to have fans, decent recordings, or to grow as a musician. I once thaught Venom was cool... when I was 13 before I learned what talent was.
BLACKMETALLLLAAAAHHH shutthefuckup
Metallica seems to have inspired tons of bands, good and bad, from many genres of music... the only people Venom have inspired are a handfull of dudes living in Norway that paint thier faces to look like raccoons.
ANYWAY, hope Metallicas new album is enjoyable.. they deserve to do whatever the fuck they want musically, they've been in the game for a looooong time. And anyone who's still bitching about thier hair is a homosexual in denial. They probably cut it so they wouldn't look like fucking loosers that listen to possessed and have no social lives.

It amazes me to see how many people love bashing Metallica on this website. Look, if you don't like them fine. You're absolutley entitled to your opinon. But then why are you here reading a news story about them? Don't you have anything else better to do then to search for Metallica news stories so you can bash them? Seriously, that's pathetic.
Now to the real reason I wanted to post here. Am I looking forward to the new album? Absolutley. Will it be great? I have no idea for sure but they've earned enough of my respect over the last 20 or so years to give them the benefit of the doubt. Do I think their last few albums have been masterpieces like Master of Puppets? Nope, but that raises a very important point. If all of their albums were as good as Master, then Master wouldn't stand out as the masterpiece it is, would it. If every piece of art was as great as any other one, how would you measure and appreciate the greatness of the masterpieces?
Finally, whether you like them or not, they've always done what they've wanted and felt was right for them at the time and you have to respect them for that. And NOBODY can deny the influence they've had on, and their importance in the history of, the heavy metal and music industry.
Respect.

(but I think the Red Hot chili Peppers guy making a surprise appearance by playing bass kinda screwed-up the show....I see it like the bass player from Green Day making a surprise appearance at a Slayer show)

WTF are those "Pop Queens" Jamz and Kirk doing throwing devil horns? That would be like Brintey Spears or Yanni doing it!
Trujillo and Flea look bad-ass, so out of place with those other 3 losers (Kirk, Larz and Jamz).

You're full of shit and you know it. Flea is one of the most respected, highly influential and talented bass players in music today. Sure theres a drop off in quality lately with RHCP records, but he's basically seen as one of the best bassists in rock. I'd like to see the bass player from Green Day even attempt some of the shit Flea plays (though of course I still do like the bass line in Longview).

"Why your are waiting anxiously for the album to come out, try listening to bands like Bathory, Venom and Possessed. You'll thank me later." Your listening assignment: Listen to Valhalla by Bathory. Now listen to For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica. Observe the release dates. What may we conclude from this?

Sorry El Pendejo. I musn't have explained myself very well. What I was trying to say is give the guys a break. Master of Puppets is a masterpiece. And it is a considered a masterpeice because it is so much better than anything else they, or most other metal bands, have recorded. However, expecting them to create a masterpiece like that everytime they put an album out is a little unrealistic. Does that explain it a little better?
Oh, by the way. How many masterpieces of music have you created lately?
