METALLICA: Pro-Shot Footage Of Entire 'Weenie Roast' Performance Available - May 18, 2008
METALLICA topped the bill for the annual "Weenie Roast" festival sponsored by Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM. The show, which took place last night (Saturday, May 17) at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, also featured sets from THE OFFSPRING, THE RACONTEURS, RISE AGAINST, PENNYWISE, THE BRAVERY, SEETHER, SCARS ON BROADWAY and more.

METALLICA's setlist for the concert was as follows:

01. Creeping Death
02. Fuel
03. For Whom the Bell Tolls
04. Unforgiven
05. Wherever I May Roam
06. Harvester of Sorrow
07. The Memory Remains
08. Fade to Black
09. Master of Puppets
10. Battery
----------
11. Sad But True
12. One
13. Enter Sandman
----------
14. So What!
15. Seek and Destroy

Watch professionally filmed footage of METALLICA's entire performance below (courtesy of "Finck310").

High-quality photos of last night's show can be viewed at this location (courtesy of www.jayvalena.com).

METALLICA has tapped Greg Fidelman — an engineer/producer who has worked with current METALLICA producer Rick Rubin on albums for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLIPKNOT and AUDIOSLAVE, among others — to mix its much-anticipated new album, due out in September.

During a May 14 interview with The Pulse of Radio, Ulrich said that the group hopes to wrap up work on the album in time for the Memorial Day weekend holiday. "It's pretty close," he said. "We've got four studio days next week to just patch up. If there's a last minute, you know, 'that needs this...' or — but pretty much done. Yeah, it's pretty much done. And then they start mixing the week after."

Ulrich said METALLICA wrote 26 songs for the new CD but ended up finalizing about 14 of them with producer Rick Rubin. A total of 11 have actually been tracked for the album, though Ulrich said "length issues" might mean one more has to be eliminated.

"These are long songs ... we're talking seven-minute, eight-minute, nine-minute nutty-ass songs," Ulrich revealed. "We don't make them long or short on purpose; you just kind of do what feels natural. We're not really gonna edit them, (so) we're gonna lose another one at some point in the next month or so and probably end up with 10."

Ulrich described the material as "definitely pretty all over the place. There's a lot of variation, a lot of fast, slow, melodic ... kind of hardcore, nutty super-fast speed stuff. It's a little more like how some of the earlier records were a little more dynamic within the songs."

The drummer also said that METALLICA will begin a full-length tour in October, shortly after the new CD arrives.

The band next plays the Bonnaroo festival in mid-June, a series of European festivals, and the newly configured one-day Ozzfest this August in Dallas.

Awesome live version of Harvester. Only one that tops this version was the one they did in Moscow years ago.

I don't care what people think. I still look forward to Metallica tours. I always have a great time at their shows. Maybe Lars isn't the best drummer, and maybe their best years are past them. But there are few bands out there that still get me as interested in what they are going to do next. Maybe because I grew up with their music in my cassette deck..

Why does Lars' Bass Drums always sound weak? I mean, the guy hits hard..But his bass drums are always flat, and Off Tempo aswell.I still think Metallica is cool and all but, I wish lars would get his drumming up to par,and I wish James would stop the god awful howling, and go back to singing more hard and aggresive.Than maybe they would be more listenable to metal heads again.

I'm so tired of people telling every Metallica fan this band sucks, this band lost it 20 years ago, they'll drop another reload, and basically the same crap they've been saying for the past 20 years. But everytime you people complain they end up selling millions of records anyways. Even if it was the really horrible st.anger. Now before i get the well i guess millions of posers will buy this new record then you need to take a second to understand why bands are even in this business in the first place....For burritos? They don't call it a music BUSINESS for nothing. How can you people even say this new stuff sucks if we haven't even heard the final finished product and not 10 seconds of "bow down....sell your soul to me....i will set you free". If you haters think this band sucks, has lost it, and will not have a good new album then take the trendy Metallica bashing complaints and go post positive on a Kreator, Slayer, or whatever band you think is better. Besides why hate Metallica when there is crappy emo music that needs to be destroyed?

Any band that has been around as long as Metallica are going to have their ups and downs popularity wise. Give them the props they deserve. They could have just kept using the Kill 'Em All formula like some would like and put out about 3 albums before everyone tired of them....and now they'd be flipping burgers. Instead, they tried new things along the way...some that worked and some that didn't. Regardless, it takes balls to try new things...especially when a good chunk of your fan base has little or no creative imagination themselves and keep demanding the same old shite....

"go back to listening to your bland, generic, cliche metal".

Other than the metal part, you just described everything Metallica has done since 'Justice'(with the exception of 'Garage Inc.', which was a covers CD afterall).

'Metallica'- Let's make music that soccer moms and jocks will buy.

'Load'- Let's jump on the alternative bandwagon

'ReLoad'- Let's release some songs that weren't good enough for 'Load'

'St. Anger'- Let's do what The Hives, The White Stripes, and all the other 'garage rock' bands are doing now

The haters' opinion certainly matters enough to you.
You write very long posts trying to bash them.
Most of them are disappointed Metallica fans.
Being "suckcessful" means nothing, Madonna is more popular than Metallica and according to your reasoning she must play better music. "Suckcess" only means your music is commerciable enough and that you have a big label behind you pushing it. Nothing more nothing less, it can be good or bad and when it comes to Metallica, the album that sold the most clearly was NOT their best one.
Disappointed fans have got every right to voice their opinions just as much as anybody else. It's called "Freedom of Speech".
And being disappointed doesn't make them worse than you or anybody else.Like being in a "suckcessful" band does not make you better or worse than anybody else.
One of the most vocal opponents of the "post-black album" Metallica was a certain Chuck Schuldiner. A man who's not with us anymore but who left an incredible legacy and when it comes to my vision of success was certainly 100% more successful than Metallica. Not to say incredibly more talented too imo.
Get a grip and stop contradicting yourselves.

When Metallica sues their fans for listening to Metallica songs, THEY SUCK! I can picture Lars and his lawyers rolling nude in piles of money, laughing at the dickholes that are still willing to pay top dollar for their symphony-remixes of the same old shit. At some point one of them must’ve stopped dry-humping stacks of hundreds, wiped their diarrhea mustache and agreed to allow “Unforgiven” to be interpreted into elevator Muzak. Real Metallica fans who want real no-bullshit metal have every right to complain that their favorite band has turned their backs on them ans followed trends period!.......Releasing shit just for $$$$$$ is the fucking problem. Def Leppard just released a shitty album that will also sell millions (#5 in US charts) but that doesn't mean is a good one at that.

2) No matter how anyone feels about Metallica. They are a talented group of individuals. James, Kirk and Lars have influened many that we call "favorites" today. (like it or not) I like Rob, but for me Jason brought that little something extra to the band. I know I will get crushed for this but I actually prefer Jason over Rob and Cliff.

No matter what they put out, I am sure that at some point I will listen to it. This doesn't mean I am going to purchase it, if I like it I will. I haven't bought anything since the black album... i thought it was going to be aggressive and well........ i was wrong.

Yes, Metallica is now simply a nostalgia act, I agree. But you can't deny what they accomplished between Kill 'Em All and And Justice for All. This is a once great band with a terrific legacy. Even Zeppelin took some flack for Coda. Yes, it was weak, but you still can't say they sucked. I agree that Metallica as a music producing band is over, but they deserve the right to make some easy money on some easy tours as their shows still rock - and what's wrong with that? I for one will still look forward to paying money to see their show and banging my head to the good stuff. I'll go take a piss during the new stuff. Let's all let this band die with some dignity and respect.

I'd have to say that this is the best they have sounded in over 10 years. The solos were accurate and Lars' bass drums weren't all over the place. Lars got me into metal and drumming but his playing has been embarrassingly painful for several years. It was nice to hear him tone it down. James' voice is still too clean at times but at least he's not saying, "Yeahaaaayeah" after every line.
I'm still skeptical of the new album though. I see they are trying hard to capture the glory days again but I don't think it is going to be quite there.

Looking forward to seeing these legends in Dallas. 20 years deserves respect. I will see them until they are 80 along with other metal legends such as Ozzy. Without Metallica on tour this summer, we would be stuck with the majority of the pussy bands out there now calling themselves metal.

I love how the drums almost completely dissappear on Battery and how Kirk fucks miserably the intro solo on One.

James' singing is just so fucking gay nowadays. He should stop doing those things with his voice every 10 sec like going low pitch, to high pitch, back to low pitch it just gets on my nerves and its fucking gay. Just sing it like on the record god dammit!

I often wonder about the worshipers of obviously crappy Pop music, such as 'lica.

What I really want to say is, Blabbermouth is a great place to give your honest opinion about metal bands. If you want to promote pop music or bash metal heads for not enjoying pop music, you should find another site to masturbate to.

Try Teen Beat, I'm sure they have a website to cover your pop bands.

I'm tired of wasting finger strength on Metallica posts..

They always have and always will kick ass.

The new shit sounds great.

Haters will cry(even more, if that's possible).

At least I'm not a trendy wanna-be like yourself. Go back to buying your t-shirts and CDs at Hot Topic, like your hero David Beckham!!!!!

Maybe you should change your email address to j. BLUNDER.
