VELVET REVOLVER Drummer Says Singer Search Is 'Coming Along' - May 19, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum officially launched his new line of clothing last Wednesday (May 14) in Los Angeles, at the grand opening of his new Sorum Noce boutique. Sorum teamed with fashion designer and longtime friend Max Noce to create a new line of "elegant, innovative" rock-inspired clothing under both their names. More information can be found at SorumNoce.com, where members of VELVET REVOLVER, ALICE IN CHAINS and other groups can be seen modeling some of the Sorum Noce apparel.

Sorum has had a busy couple of weeks between launching his boutique and paying tribute to bandmate Slash at a recent MusiCares benefit. But he also told The Pulse of Radio that the search for a new VELVET REVOLVER singer is moving forward. "It's coming along," he said. "People are sending stuff in. The first time we were looking for a singer it was a little tougher, 'cause people didn't really know what we were doing musically, I guess. So this time it's gotten out of control, especially with the Internet and things like that, we've got just thousands and thousands of people coming at us with, you know, auditions."

VELVET REVOLVER parted ways with vocalist Scott Weiland last month following a European tour. Weiland has now reunited with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

Sorum is also part of the regular lineup of all-star covers act CAMP FREDDY, who played the third of four May residencies at the Roxy in Los Angeles on Thursday night (May 15). Among the guests that joined the group that evening was SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor, who sang three songs. Other guests included RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith and DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell.

I'm entertaining the idea???

Well I hate to let the cat out of the bag or the Weiland out of rehab but well the band has been calling and well lets just go ahead and announce it….. They’ve asked me to do the gig…. I’m still kicking it around and shit but you know I’m not getting their hopes up or anything. Axl also called and needs a guitarist so you know I’m keeping my options open…

Josh Todd would be great but doubtful they'll get him. BC is on a roll with the "radio hits" as of late. Bach or any of the Snakepit singers would be great too but I don't know that Slash would work with Bach or any of his previous singers. Guess we'll have to wait for this soap opera to play itself out.

I hope they find someone soon. I'm sick of hearing Sebastian's name thrown in the hat. Great Skid Roses. Just what I DON'T want to hear.
Josh Todd has a great voice but his lyrics suck. Plus didn't Slash say the demos with Josh were terrible.
Forget Korey Clark and Phil they both have bands. Korey is already singing in Warrior Soul, Stoned, Trouble, and some other band. Bad fit and the guys too busy. Phil would not fit so get over it.

Find someone new.

For 1 or 2 albums/tours?

If he spares the rap and country shit, this guy can rock hard. Kid Rock has the required attitude. He doesn't give a fuck, he's sex drugs and rock and roll, he's a talented and versatile singer who could probably sing most of Weiland's songs.

Chris Cornell is not a good idea imo. He's a good fit for an alternative supergroup, but not for a hard rock one.

I think John Corabi would be a perfect choice for VR. He has a great voice and is a fantastic frontman. IMO He is the man for the job.

I know, I know, hes the american idol or whatever. But my wife was playing his album the other day, and just as I was about to write him off, on comes this tune with a KILLER sound.... apparently Slash played on it... for some reason, Daughty's voice pairs really, really well with Slash's tone. He sounds good, he's become established, he's in-between projects, has already recorded with Slash, is on the same label.... perfect fit. Just please, please DONT go on that stupid show that tommy pee and jason poostead went on to search for a singer.... y a w n. Well, now that I have suggested Daughtry, I'm off to play the new Testament for the 5th time tonight to make up for my wussy-ness....

They had their chance with Josh Todd BUCKCHERRY is MACHINE now, and Sebastian's voice is to pretty. I think Walt Lafty would be perfect in style and in sound. Silvertide is a very talented band but they seem to be caught up in recording The CHINEESE DEMOCRACY II. (their 2nd release is long overdue) But,Now that Nick Perry is "temporaliy" a member of SHINEDOWN, Walt shoulkd not waste away until they get their contract B/S done. But the fact of the matter SILVERTIDE may be a better band than Velvet Revolver and Gn'R given a little bit more experience.

Travis Meeks (Days of the New) isn't doing anything and would be a nice fit.

Not convinced? Listen to Days of the New's cover of L.A. Woman on Stone Immaculate - Tribute to The Doors and you'll see how he rocks "plugged".
