Violence Breaks Out As BLACK TIDE Performs At JAMES FREY's Book-Release Party - May 20, 2008
Miami metal band BLACK TIDE played a free show last Thursday (May 15) at the Whisky A-Go Go in Hollywood, California to celebrate the release of James Frey's new book, "Bright Shiny Morning". There were several scuffles with security during BLACK TIDE's set and even more after a reading from James' book. According to the New York Post's "Page Six", "literary types were horrified as the brawl spilled out to the sidewalk, where it took 20 cops to quell the violence. Three men were arrested."

Yahoo! Music recently uploaded BLACK TIDE's exclusive performance of "Shockwave". Watch the footage below.

BLACK TIDE sold 11,400 copies of its debut album, "Light from Above", in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 73 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Light from Above" was released on March 18 via Interscope Records. The CD was recorded with producer Johnny K, who has previously worked with DISTURBED, MACHINE HEAD and SOIL, among others.

Why was Black Tide "celebrating" the release of a book by James Frey? I don't see the connection there at all. Plus, Frey is kind of a douche. Is the book about a heavy metal band or something?

if TMZ did not cover it, it did not happen.

that or they were up the block at the Roxy checking out Nicole Kidman checking out Bryan Adams.

Not to be confused with Ryan Adams, who plans to release 15 heavy metal records this year.

Wow thats weird. I am skeptical as others have noted. Why would Black Tide be performing at a book release? And isn't James Frey that weirdo who lied about being a drug addict so that Oprah would promote his book?

Any idiot who believed the first parts of James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces" is a fucking moron, and got exactly what they deserve.

They actually believed that a doctor would risk his license, his job, federal offenses and a lawsuit by not using anesthesia when drilling this man's teeth. Then afterwards was bleeding profusely from the mouth and managed to make it on an airplane, where they let him vomit and bleed everywhere. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Black Tide did a bad ass cover of Metallica's hit the lights when i saw them at ozzfest last year. They are a great new band, hopefully they go somewhere.

A not so cuddly version of Kiddeo.

I don't wanna trash these younguns nor' their efforts to carry the torch of metal - but, the 3-way vocals just wreak of homespun 4-track cheese from the 80's (sorry again - but, 3 undeveloped voices combined do not equal 1 killer vocal track.)

The 3 (& sometimes 4)-way vox are making a resurgence, just like ignorant comments on here. Haha. Seriously, though, it's all good. As long as the solos are rippin', then life is good. Oh and Benderisgreat, "Hit The Lights" is on the album, too. I bought it the week it came out. Well worth the money, compared to 99% of the shit out now.

Just by my first witness (above video) of their act they do seem quite sincere in their interest of classic metal.

If they stick-to-it and do not become reliant upon a particular mode of writing I have no problem saying that this band could seriously turn some heads and create some kick-ass tunes.

Btw... could somebody front that drummer a few bones to expand his kit - I'm thinking that the money would not be wasted.
