PEARL JAM, FOO FIGHTERS To Honor THE WHO During 'VH1 Rock Honors' - May 21, 2008
VH1 has just confirmed that critically acclaimed, multi-platinum rock bands PEARL JAM and FOO FIGHTERS along with the Grammy Award-winning rock band THE FLAMING LIPS will perform at the network's third annual "VH1 Rock Honors" celebration honoring legendary rock band THE WHO.

This year's event will deliver a night of high-voltage tribute performances by the three bands all leading up to the spectacular grand finale performance by THE WHO as they rock the stage. Additional performers, presenters and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed. As a result of THE WHO's revolutionary and era-defining influence on rock music, this will be the first "VH1 Rock Honors" that salutes just one band.

Taping in Los Angeles at the Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA on July 12, "VH1 Rock Honors: The Who" will premiere on Thursday, July 17 at 9:00 p.m. on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD. VH1.com will also offer select performances from the show leading up to and following the on-air premiere at Rock.VH1.com. THE WHO's monumental legacy will be celebrated with a two-hour tribute that will salute the music and the lasting impact of this groundbreaking band. The influence of THE WHO will be felt through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of today's premiere rock acts as well as the legends themselves.

On Friday, June 6, tickets will go on sale to Wholigans, members of THE WHO fan club. The general public on sale will be on Sunday, June 8. All tickets will be sold via Ticketmaster. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the efforts of multiple charities, including The Teenage Cancer Trust, the Double O Charity, VH1 Save The Music Foundation and select VH1 Classic Rock Autism organizations.

The Who. That's it? A whole night spent on a band that is half dead? I don't mind them being honered, but not the whole thing.

Can it really be a true cover (Limp Bizkit) of a classic if the 2 coolest parts of the song; Awesome Running Basslines (RIP) and the killer middle eight? C'mon. And that new verse at the end Fred wrote? Man, i dig 'some' bizkit...but that sucked balls!

If you dig the Who (or don't dig the Who) and you haven't seen Amazing Journey, go get that sumbitch right now. One of the best rock docs ever.

I'll go on record defending Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst, but their version of "Blue Eyes" = worst. cover. ever. What the blue hell was up with the speak & spell vocals? Total WTF? moment.

And the entire point of the video seemed like the whole thing was set up so's he could make out with Halle Berry. Good work if you can get it, I guess.

limp bizkit sucks.......they butchered behind blue eyes.

pete townshend is one of if not the best songwriters in rock history, any genre, period. also one of the greatest guitar players ever. his use of "shading" with the volume and tone is incredible.

john entwistle is perhaps the best rock bassist ever. check out the newly re-mastered kids are alright dvd. it has an audio section devoted just to the ox and his bass lines in baba o'riley, mindblowing what he was doing.

keith moon, fuck he's keith moon it's either him or bonham as far as rock drummers...flip a coin

roger daltrey, can't write a song to save his life, but has one of the best voices ever. his scream in won't get fooled again sends shivers every time i hear it

long live the fuckin' 'oo

THE WHO are one of the greatest and most important bands in rock history, and Quadrophenia & Tommy are two of the greatest albums ever written.

I much liked the scene from Deuce Bigelow: European Gigilo, when they used "Behind Blue Eyes" alot better than LB's version.

BTW, Limp Bizkit, despite Fred's homophobic rants, is named after a college game where a circle of guys beat off on a biscuit, and whoever stops whacking off has to eat it.
