VELVET REVOLVER Says No To Reality Show, Plans To Announce New Lead Vocalist Soon - May 26, 2008
VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about the group's future plans following its much-publicized split with singer Scott Weiland in early April.

"We're coming out with something in a couple of weeks and I think it's going to surprise everybody," Sorum told the Artisan News Service. "It's exciting. We're moving forward. We're going to keep going and play rock 'n' roll and get a new guy singing, so we did it before we'll do it again."

He added, "We're really seriously thinking about doing something online. Yeah, we got offered a couple of different television ideas you know. [TV producer] Mark Burnett called us and asked us to do that 'Rock Star' thing and we basically said no to that. We didn't feel it was right for us. No disrespect to him, but it just didn't feel right for what we want to do. As many years as we've tried to keep our integrity intact, we felt that wasn't the right forum for us to do it, so we got some ideas and we should have that news in a couple weeks."

VELVET REVOLVER parted ways with vocalist Scott Weiland last month following a European tour. Weiland has now reunited with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

Sorum is also part of the regular lineup of all-star covers act CAMP FREDDY, who played the fourth May residency at the Roxy in Los Angeles Thursday night (May 22).

He would be an awesome choice for singer.

I heard the Keith Caputo is going to be the new lead singer of VR. I actually heard this almost 2 weeks ago from a friend who works in at Q104.3 radio station . He's been write on all new music news that he's been telling me since he started working there. I think Keith will do a great job of fronting this band. Listen to the last LOA album, that sounded a lot like a harder VR album.

Ian Astbury was considered when they were starting, but he's the voice of the Cult. It wouldn't be right. Bach is with Axl and not the right guy to sell records.

A surprise could mean it's an unknown, but Sorum is into rock stars so we will see who the guy is. I don't have a good feeling about this though.

If Libertad tanked with Scott, the next album will yield laughable sales with a non-mainstream guy. They will probably get dropped from their label, and Live Nation will approach Slash, Duff, and Matt about a 360 deal for a "new" band with a big name lead singer. If VR ever breaks up, they should get Dave Navarro to replace Kushner. Star power is the only thing this band has going for them.

Fact is, they're not a hot band that can take a gamble. They're a band surviving off the live experience: GNR classics, hits from the lead singer's former band, cover songs, and VR singles. If they don't care about sales, change the name and find the best singer available. But they do care about sales, they're keeping the name that Scott suggested in hopes to sell more. Their audition should be who is the best as singing GNR and who brings good concert songs from their old band into the mix.

Josh Todd (this new Buckcherry is hardly the old band, wouldn't be a bad move for him to quit. VR would benefit from people wanting to hear Crazy Bitch every night at their shows.)
Ian Atsbury
Chris Cornell
Perry Farell (weird mix, but a good vocalist and a good back catalog)
Ed Roland (Collective Soul, they don't sell much, still tour, but that's a good back catalog for VR to consider. He has to know he would make a lot more money touring with VR than keeping a 90s alternative nostalgia band active)

What's wrong with a band doing a reality show to find a singer? Anybody that can get up there and be critizied in front of millions of people, at least has balls & confidence. This gives the band a chance to see how dedicated they are. This band needs a new & younger singer, those listed above have had their chances.

It's even on wikipeida stating that Keith might well be the new front man for VR. It's a great fit, it looks like a few people on here think so too. Listen to songs like "Love to let you down" "Wicked Ways" and "Weeds" they all sound like a harder version of a VR song. Nothing against Scott, he is one of the last true showman/frontman that we have left in the music biz. But I think Keith can hold his own up there.

They had their chance with Josh Todd BUCKCHERRY is MACHINE now, and Sebastian's voice is to pretty. I think Walt Lafty would be perfect in style and in sound. Silvertide is a very talented band but they seem to be caught up in recording The CHINEESE DEMOCRACY II. (their 2nd release is long overdue) But,Now that Nick Perry is "temporaliy" a member of SHINEDOWN, Walt shoulkd not waste away until they get their contract B/S done. But the fact of the matter SILVERTIDE may be a better band than Velvet Revolver and Gn'R given a little bit more experience.

I heard the same thing about Silvertide being tied up label BS and the last thing I heard, Walt (singer/silvertide) went and made some stupid acoustic record on his own because he just needed to do something or some white noise. Its a shame because he is a great singer when he sings for a rock band and he's an even better lyricist and frontman but I always thought that Silvertide was really just Walt the singer and Nick the guitar player anyway and now that Nick is "playing" with Shinedown, I'd say that leaves Walt in the same boat as VR... looking for the missing puzzle piece.

Well good luck if they do consider him , although he is a bit of a looney bin and a loose cannon if you ask me. I saw him opening up for Motley Crue and again with Velvet Revolver and He might be alittle too much for VR to handle but then again they dealt with 2 ego trips to date so a total nutcase wouldn't be a far off choice.

who ever it ends up being I'm sure will be good. but I really hope that they chose someone great so they can inspire new, young rock bands because the current state of rock music is pretty pathetic with only a few exceptions.
What the fuck is fallout boy anyway?
