BLAZE BAYLEY's CLIVEAID Non-Appearance Explained - May 26, 2008
Former IRON MAIDEN/WOLFSBANE frontman Blaze Bayley has commented on his non-appearance at the upcoming Cliveaid event on June 30 at the Les Caves Saint Sabin in Paris, France.

Says Blaze: "Just to make things clear, we want to let you all know in France that BLAZE BAYLEY band never confirmed this appearance, it was booked and announced by Cliveaid without confirming with the management and we were booked for something else already; we want to apologize to all of our hardcore fans and friends in Paris, we are working in getting there as soon as we can and play a proper gig for all of you."

Cliveaid organizers have announced that former MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno will sing three songs with French MAIDEN tribute band COVERSLAVE at the Paris event. Also scheduled to appear are the Parisian heavy/thrash metallers DREAMCATCHER, and French illustrator Hervé Monjeaud, who works for IRON MAIDEN. Monjeaud designed the "Somewhere Back In Time - World Tour 08" poster and works for French IRON MAIDEN fanzine Neighbour Of The Beast. Hervé will bring some of his best original artwork and will draw Eddie sketches for those who ask.

Cliveaid is the organization which was set up in 2004 as a fund-raising event for original IRON MAIDEN drummer Clive Burr.

Burr is suffering from multiple sclerosis — a disease of unknown cause. The disorder is causing him intermittent numbness and can affect his balance. At present there is no known cure for MS, although he is helping test new drugs in the hope that his body response may contribute to a cure.

Clive joined IRON MAIDEN at the very end of December 1979 and played on the first three albums — "Iron Maiden", "Killers" and "Number of the Beast" — and toured extensively with the band over this groundbreaking period before leaving in early 1983.

1) Response to Metal Guru. I could be wrong, but I don't think Clive and Blaze have even been in the same room together. Clive was in the band in the early 80's. Blaze was in the band in the mid to late 90's. Not sure why Blaze would owe anything to him.

2) The reason Blaze missed was because he had to have his toupee adjusted.

Response to metal guru...

Get your facts right!! Blaze has already played, and is playing other Clive Aid gigs, and seeing he has is already touring he isn't going to just drop a gig to go to Paris is he!

Blaze sucks ass, and doesn't deserve to be on any bill having anything to do with Iron Maiden.

Two worst Iron Maiden albums ever. Sounds like a moose in heat.

I'm a huge maiden fan always have always will be
I love soundhouse tapes right up Matter of life in death (inclu. Blaze stuff)

To anyone who hates blaze, paul, or aspects of maiden ... just drop it ... This is for a cause far out of our conception. This is to raise money for not just Maiden ... for MS

Give your fucking heads a shake and grow up.

Just because Blaze has never been in the same room as Clive who cares ... It's MS and it's a fundraiser ... get over yourselves and leave your pety geeky parasitic starfucker attitudes out of it ... and support people in their time of need.

The Blaze Maiden albums get way too much hate. Don't get me wrong, it's always been about Bruce for me as he's always been the true voice of Maiden, but the Blaze ones weren't bad by any means.

The X Factor is a great album. It's way better than NPFTD and FOTD. Iron Maiden, no matter who sings have an instantly recognisable sound. How you can say the Blaze era albums are not Maiden when they unmistakingly are is just plain stupid.

I still can't get how Blaze beat Edu Falaschi for the Maiden spot.

Agreed. I like Blaze's voice, especially moreso on his solo work. The two Maiden albums he did weren't half bad- at LEAST they weren't trying to pull a Pantera like Priest were on their "non halford" albums. Also, Blaze sounded distinct rather than Halford clone like Ripper did.

But that aside, I also think its important to point out Bruce's flaws as a singer as well. Blaze kinda strained at the high notes live, while Bruce "screeched" high notes that didn't come close to the albums (like on the end of Flight of Icarus on LAD). Also, I think there has been moments where he sounded plain rotten. That aside, since Balls to Picasso and on he has gotten consistently better, ironically though Dance of Death is my least favorite Maiden album, way too much filler and bad production quality. I love AMOLAD and Brave New World, and don't forget that Bruce is to blame for brining Janick on board, but that's a whole other discussion (many of the Bruce worshippers seem to hate Janick, so thats the point, even though i think he is a terrific songwriter, rivalling Smith at times).

I didn't agree with that as a teenager but I think I do now at age 30- those albums have way too much filler and the X-factor is a very mature and deep album.

I agree with that 100%. Bruce is a way better singer than Blaze. In fact, Bruce is the greatest singer ever, IMO. But, the X-Factor IS a better album than NPFTD or FOTD. The X-Factor fits Blaze's voice perfectly. The songs are dark and depressing and just a great step for Maiden. The X-Factor is the most underrated album in the Maiden catalog. That said, Virtual XI is my least favorite Maiden CD. The songs there were mopre fit for Bruce. But the songwriting wasnt nearly as good.

Saw the mighty Maiden in San Antonio last week and it was hands down the best concert I have ever been to.

Blaze clearly would have taken part in it if he could've.
Great lad and his solo stuff rules.
What he did with Wolfsbane and Maiden is also great, but his solo stuff is much better.
