CANDLEBOX will make its triumphant return to the modern music game this summer with its first new record in ten years. "Into The Sun" will be released July 22 on Silent Majority Group in conjunction with Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group.

The original CANDLEBOX songwriting team of singer Kevin Martin and guitarist Peter Klett along with original drummer Scott Mercado, reunited shortly before the 2006 Rhino/Warner Brothers retrospective, "Best Of Candlebox", was released.

CANDLEBOX's 2008 lineup features three of the founding four members — only bass player Bardi Martin has been replaced by Adam Kury.

After being apart for more than seven years, Martin and Klett discovered that the time and tide apart had nurtured enhanced chemistry and mutual personal evolution that has now manifested in a cache of new songs that leave their past works, for lack of a better phrase, far behind.

"Into The Sun" was produced by Ron Aniello (BARENAKED LADIES, LIFEHOUSE) engineered by Cliff Norrell (REM, HENRY ROLLINS) and mixed by Norrell and Mike Shipley (NICKELBACK, DEF LEPPARD). Kevin Martin (vocals) and Peter Klett (guitar) Scott Mercado (drums) and Adam Kury (bass) have come together to make a bold, eclectic mix of rhythms and textures that will make long-time CANDLEBOX fans mouths water and has the potential to vault this band back into the national spotlight. Remember, this is a band that's sold over six million albums in the U.S. alone.

"Into The Sun" track listing:

01. Stand
02. Bitches Brewin
03. Surrendering
04. Into The Sun
05. Underneath It All
06. Miss You
07. How Does It Feel
08. A Kiss Before The Dying
09. Breathe Intro
10. Breathe Me In
11. Lover Come Back To Me
12. Consider Us

"Stand", the first single off "Into The Sun", is currently streaming on the band's MySpace page. Both "Stand" and "Surrendering" are available for purchase via iTunes.

Kevin Martin: "I really feel this is our best work to date, seemed like old times in the studio and I really enjoyed making this record. When we started writing the songs for this record back in '07 I think we all felt like we were on to something special. I think you can hear that in the songs, they just speak to you like an old friend you haven't seen in years but are so happy to be able to catch up with."

Peter Klett: "Making this record reminded me of the first album — we didn't feel that we needed to find the sound, it was there and the goal was to capture it in the recording. I feel we did that and more...it was nice to end up with some live, off the cuff, recordings such as the intro to breathe....it was one of those moments that just happens...all of us in the same room feeding off one another....very exciting to feel that again."

Scott Mercado: "Without a doubt, CANDLEBOX fans are the most loyal and greatest fans in the whole world. I can't wait to hear what they think!"

Fan-filmed video footage of CANDLEBOX performing the song "Underneath It All" during the band's March 25, 2008 concert at The Roxy in West Hollywood, California can be viewed below.

Candlebox are not just "ok" musicians. They wrote a ton of great material back in the heyday of grunge. Unfortunately, they fell through the cracks. Great to see 'em making their return! I am up for seeing them if they have an Atlanta date.

I think it's funny that remnants from the 90s who are trying to hold on are trying to fashion themselves as metal now. Odd how back in the 90s they were only too happy to distance themselves from the music they loved and grew up on in order to have a few hits. Now they're trying to show that, hey, they were metal all along. Fuck them, fuck grunge, and fuck Candlebox.

when did candlebox say they're returning as a metal band? I don't know where you heared that, but it's not true. They are returning as the grunge/rock band they always were, and they're not claiming otherwise, so stop putting words in their mouth. Now, all you haters, give their first album a listen, and you're a fucking liar if you say that "don't you" isn't a flat out rockin' song with an awesome guitar solo. great rock band.

Candlebox certainly aren't metal and they've never claimed to be grunge, although that's where most categorize them. They've always claimed to be rock & roll though. All the crap people fling about Candlebox is generated by the knuckleheads in the meda. It's not that complicated. This is a great band.

Take a listen instead of just flappin your pie hole: http://www.silentmajoritygroup.com/freedownloads

Tune's called Bitches Brewin' - Straight old skool rock & roll people! BTW this download is from their label so it's legal and free.
