KISS' ERIC SINGER, TOMMY THAYER Greet Over 1,000 Fans At Helsinki In-Store
- May 28, 2008
|
|
KISS drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Tommy Thayer took part in a rare in-store appearance earlier today (Wednesday, May 28) at Dlx Deluxe Music in Helsinki, Finland. According to a posting on KISS' official web site, the event was attended by over 1,000 fans. Check out a photo from the signing session at this location. Eric and Tommy will make in-store appearance this Thursday, May 29 in Stockholm, Sweden at 4 Sound from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. As previously reported, KISS has officially confirmed its participation in the 68th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. The band will play the Glencoe CampResort on August 4. Also scheduled to appear at this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally — which runs from August 4 to August 10 — are 3 DOORS DOWN, FOGHAT, ALICE COOPER, THEORY OF DEADMAN and SALIVA, among others. Commented KISS in a statement: "This tour just keeps getting bigger and the band has never been better! Until we sort out the next leg, we don't want to stop, so we're doing a few U.S. shows for our enjoyment, as much as the fans. We are having the time of our lives on the Alive 35 tour and over half a million KISS fans obviously share the feeling! Why stop?" Tickets to KISS' performance in Sturgis will be available June 1 at www.startickets.com or 1-800-345-9213. KISS will perform at the Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa in Kelseyville, California on Sunday, August 31 as part of the X.S. Labor Day Weekend Lake County Summerfest grand finale. Call 800-660-LAKE direct to Konocti Harbor for tickets and room reservations or get tickets at any Tickets.com locations or online at www.tickets.com. This is all because these 2 clones are wearing the same fucking makeup that the originals wore. Kulick, St. John and Vincent did not do this but had the same responsibilities (aside from Vincent's writing). Those guy never got any shit, neither did Eric Carr. Personally, it doesn't really matter that much to me. If it sounds good then it's good. I don't really listen to this lineup and they have no new material. I did like the stuff they did with the other post Ace and Peter era KISS. As far as I'm concerned, it is the same damn thing but with other two fill ins that are wearing the same makeup as the originals - so what? If the guys are good at what they do then it's good and if they aren't then that's not good. Who gives a shit about the damn makeup/character thing? There are more important things to worry about then this nonsense unless you are a REAL TRUE classic KISS devotee/fanatic!! Otherwise, so fucking what? Let the 12 yr. old's meet some "rockstars".

Without the makeup of Ace and Peter then they are like Bruce, Eric Carr, St. John, and Vincent? That would be OK but with the makeup they are all of a sudden amateur musicians who can't handle KISS' beginner level songs? Shit, the other guitarists and drummers aside from Ace and Peter have more ability than Ace and Peter. I will admit that Ace had a pretty unique style but he sure ain't no virtuoso by a long shot nor claimed to be. He uses the same damn lick in almost every song too. His SONGS though, were real cool. My favorites, including the '78 solo album. Great stuff. Since these clones wear makeup this then strips them of their abilities? I don't get it. What is really the fucking problem with this lineup here?

a.) Shouldn't they be in make-up?
b.)What the fuck do you have Tommy Thayer sign? I mean I guess you could have Eric Singer sign Revenge or Carnival of Souls, but what do you give Tommy Thayer? "Here, can you sign my 'Hiotter Than Hell' album? Oh wait, you're not on that. How about my 'Creatires of the Night'. Nope, not on there, either. Wait! I have Animalize here...oh yeah, you're not on that one either. Here we go - 'Hot In The Shade'? No. Have you played on anything? What? 'Psycho Circus'? I have it right here - show me your fucking name! And that album sucks anyway!"

I went to some kind of car show and I was soooo excited because Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk would be on hand. I waited on line for about an hour and had the "honor" of getting my comic books signed.
Noticing the deflated look, my Dad asked if I was mad because it wasn't really Spider Man and The Hulk. I gave him an incredulous look and said: "Dad, everyone knows they're not real. I'm just mad because it wasn't Lou Ferrigno."
Moral: Don't sell the kids short...I'm sure they know fakes when they see them.

Maybe Tommy could sign one of the Kiss albums that he co wrote songs on. Or maybe he could sign the music sheet he had to write out for Ace whislt he was teaching him back his own songs. Or maybe his new book how to apply make up the Ace frehley way. Who cares the kids looked happy to meet him. What I don't get is all the Tommy knockers the reason he is in the band is because Ace dosen't want to be, in Ace's own words, he said he was continued perform very well anymore couldn't get down on one knee etc.. So why should the younger generation have to miss out on the Kiss experience because of Ace? a lot of them being brought up with the music by their parents. Okay So a lot of people don't like the fact that Eric and Tommy wear the same make up/ costume as Ace and peter but its all part of the show the same reason they wanted to see the full Kiss reunion show with make up. themselves, Can people honesty say that the reunion shows would have sold so well without the make up/costumes and stage show.

I like what you say EXCEPT to my buddy JRSPON who does tend to like to start things off with "Legends Never Die" a lot. However, I do believe he is a cool individual. And believe me, you wouldn't want to fuck with him in person either. Not like it matters but it is the truth. I DO however, like what you say otherwise - that's if you care! Those guys "Rock69" and "Teabag" do seem thus far to indeed be shitbags to an extreme degree! I would LOVE to smack them!

I didnt have a major problem with it when they put these guys in the classic make up, I just kinda scratched my head and said..ok, thats gonna piss ace and peter off....I saw them on a video and they were just kind of there, but then Thayer picked up EVERY gimmick ace had, smoking guitar, same solo, guitar flys to ceiling, guitar fires rocket and I thought, damn couldnt this guy create anything for himself ?!?! To me however, the final straw was when I heard that they were rerecording the old songs with these guys.Thats too far.G**Damn, at least write your own songs if your gonna record!!!

you're right no one will ever mistake ace for a musical genius, but he did have a couple of really cool tricks. his double bends and pull offs were pretty cool and he had a good tone. i love his first couple of bends in black diamond in his solo just before the tape is slowed down......there's his signature sound. is it hard to do? nope. but it sounds cool and you know right away it's ace. when a player can have his own "sound" no matter how technicaly brilliant ( or not so brilliant) that to me speaks volumes. there's a ton of guys out there who can play the same licks, but it doesn't sound like ace.

well, put it this way, tommy thayer and eric singer are no different than janick gers, bruce dickinson, or nicko mcbrain in iron maiden. or rob trujillo and kirk hammet in metallica, or viv campbell in def leppard, or even led zepplin wen they played their one of gig in london using john bonahms son on drums. people were scrambling for tickets for that. and that wasn't a money grab?? coz none of these guys are original members. no climbs all over thir asses. Why?? coz they don't wear someone elses makeup? please get over it. KISS are kicking ass live all over europe, and maybe the fact they won't sell so many tickets in USA is ecause they always play there. and they are selling out in europe because they never play here and people want to see them before they go and don't return for another 8 years.. And your seriously telling me that if someone said you can play in KISS for a gig or 2 you'd say no? whatever!!!

if tommy and eric weren't dressing up as and in tommy's case, using ace's signature moves. i.e. smoking guitar, guitar lifted into the rafters, playing the solos note for note. playing the same damn setlist for well past 10 years......then i'd agree with you.
but..........in the cases you mentioned above: dickinson did not copy di'anno. gers did not dress in adrian smith's headbands. jason newstead did not play like cliff burton. jason bonham......well it is bonzo's son so you can't escape that.
the point is. kiss is the only band out there with non original members dressing and acting like original members. you wanna go see it, more power to you. enjoy yourself. as for me i'll stay home

The thing is even though they are playing the same setlist for over 10 years fans still want them only haters bash them for what they are playing the same songs. Do you imagine them playing crazy crazy nights? IMO The live versions sucks. this tour is called Alive this means that they are playing the songs played on the alive album which brought them to success. If they play creatures, love it loud, heavens on fire, tears are falling, hide you heart, No no no, Unholy,God gave rocknroll to you. Haters will say why the hell are they playing those songs if the tour is called alive ? and btw all those songs I have mentioned they played most of them in rock the nation world tour, hit'run and rising sun tour.

there will always be haters regardless. by touring with alive, to me anyway, it feels like they're "milking" their past. yes they played those songs you mentioned, but the majority of the setlists were from the first 10 years, a few later songs thrown in.
i have seen kiss 3 times. on the H.I.T.S. tour, 96 reunion, and farewell tour.
the 96 tour was the best, then the H.I.T.S. tour. that 1990 show was great because they mixed up the setlist. there were just as many newer songs as there were "classic" songs. and bruce wasn't playing the "classic" stuff note for note, which made it "his own" so to speak.
this whole nostaglgia trip is played out. if kiss want to be seen as something more than this generation's beach boy's ( IMO) ...they need to get back to doing something original. not riding on past glories

As usual, that is a valid statement that you have made. He does indeed have a signature style that is unique; however, that alone does not cut it for me; of course, it has to be a signature style that pertains to my taste - which Ace's happens to do definitely. I don't how much feeling he has in his playing. I wouldn't say that I get chills like I do with David Gilmour or even Slash but he is cool by my book - no more, no less. His writing style is also extrememly simple and catchy which are the key ingredients to a hit song that appeals to the masses, musicians or not.
