MÖTLEY CRÜE Bassist Comments On SARNIA BAYFEST Controversy
- May 29, 2008
Tara Hagan of The Sarnia Observer reports: MÖTLEY CRÜE has a message for Sarnia [Ontario, Canada] councillor Dave Boushy and his objection to their upcoming performance at Sarnia Bayfest [music festival taking place this July in Sarnia].
Speaking via conference call Wednesday, rock's bad boys jumped at the opportunity to comment on Boushy's claim their off-stage antics are pornographic.
"He's right," said bass player Nikki Sixx. "People like him are always out to attack rock and roll, you know. God bless them, man. They keep our name in the press and re-ignite our passion to hold up our middle finger to all those people who really don't understand."
"If that's how these people have to get a little press, then that's their problem," said Sixx, who then used a common expletive to describe the councillor.
Last month, the 78-year-old Boushy sparked a furor after he suggested that the band’s sexual exploits and shocking behavior could damage Sarnia's image.
He called for a motion that the city have a say in which acts perform at the annual summer festival.

Either side is gonna get a fair amount of press, Motley Crue especially. Don't know why city officials worry. It's just gonna to bring more people to that festival anyway, and if the band gets banned from playing, guess how many people aren't showing up? Never really like hair metal anyway.

I don't think he realizes that Motley Crue is about as corporate as you can get.

Nikki is an idiot. Does he really think that today's music scene is as it was when Girls Girls Girls came out??????? Motley Crue had a time and served its purpose. Nikki is a 'has been' and Vince can't sing for shit. Mick kicks ass, always. Tommy....... well, he's Tommy. Go get Corabi and kick ass once again.

Everytime a Motley Crue thread comes up, some jack off always says, "get Corabi back"! You know what, if so many people like Corabi, then why didnt they support the album they put out with him? In fact, the album with Corabi, was their worst selling album ever, and they had to cancel tours because no one wanted to see the Crue with Corabi. I thinks its funny, now, 14 years after that album came out, everybody wants Corabi back! Dont get me wrong, that album was a great, much heavier disc, but it wasnt the Crue, and obviously eveyone else pretty much agree's, or, Corabi would still be the lead singer. No, Vince cant sing like he used to, but you know what, neither can Jagger, or Lemmy, or any other human than has been doing it for 25 plus years. It would be great if Vince and all the other great frontmen of our time sounded like they were 20 years old, even when there 60, its just the way it goes!

please read and learn.
Mötley Crüe debuted at #7 on the Billboard charts, and was awarded Gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America on May 3, 1994.[4] Rolling Stone praised the band's "whomping chord progression(s) determined to imprint itself on listeners' skulls", and noted that "the Crue have always left the philosophizing and menacing to other bands; Mötley Crüe achieves what it sets out to do: keep the riffs coming and mean every word".[5] However, five years had passed since Mötley Crüe had released a full studio album, and much had changed in the popular music scene in that time interval. During that time, grunge music and alternative rock had crossed into the mainstream, and many of the hard rock and glam metal acts from the 1980s struggled to generate sales in the new market. After initially charting in the Top 10, the album slid down the charts quickly and ultimately failed to sell as well as previous Mötley Crüe albums had before.
While there was an expected backlash from fans toward the album regarding the popular Neil's departure, there were several other factors that led to the poor sales figures that the album received. Besides the aforementioned shift in popular music, the members of the band had a falling out with MTV, where Sixx threatened to knock the host's teeth out during an interview, as he felt that the line of questioning was "stupid" and he and the rest of the band walked out mid-interview.[1] Executives from the Elektra and Warner Bros. labels weren't supporting the band either, as many executives were involved in corporate boardroom wars related to the CEO change of Bob Krasnow to Sylvia Rhone, that took priority over the band.[1] With no support from their record label to promote the album and tour, and with no promotion from MTV following the disastrous interview, the subsequent tour was scaled back from arenas to theaters until it was eventually cancelled.
As you can see, there were many factors that lead to Corabi's departure. I find it pretty terrible that they dumped him because of record company pressure. That's pretty low, and shows exactly what kind of people the Crue really are. I loved the Corabi record, it was exactly the change the Crue needed to sustain any kind of relevance.
Let me ask you this: yes, Vince-era Motley still sells out arenas and whatnot on their current tours, but do you honestly believe it's because of their new garbage Saints of Los Angeles type releases? NO. They are a nostalgia act for the fist-pumping mulleteers of the world. I always judge a band not by its current popularity, but by how I perceive a song/album would do without the support of their reputation and back catalogue.
And new Crue is unlistenable.
Look at Page and Plant. Yes, Led Zeppelin. GODS. But did you listen to Walking Into Clarksdale? FUCKING AWFUL. That disc never would have even been released without their names on it.
And so on...........

Yes, I am aware of all of the facts that you mentioned, I have always follwoed the Crue, thru all the shit, and what few great moments they had in music, and I agree with you. All I am saying, is that there seems to be a ton of people on here that really support Corabi, my question is, where were these people when he was in the band? At the time, I am sure they were some of the same ones saying, bring Vince back! Like I said, I liked that album, and if it would have came out as a different band, I would of loved it even more, but I guess I was one of many, that just couldnt get past the fact that it wasnt Vince singing, so therefore, to me, it wasnt Motley Crue. No disrespect to John at all, I think he done well, while he was there. Yes, maybe they are a nostalgia act, but I am glad Vince is with them, whether he can sing anymore or not. And as far as SOLA goes, I have heard better Crue songs, but it is by far better than anything they have had in a long time. I absolutely hated New Tattoo. I thought GS was a pretty damn good record, just didnt get much support, due to what you mentioned, change in music intrests, and the grunge movement! Anyway, to each his own!

Really, Nikki? What is it exactly that they don't understand? I think they got the idea that you like to drink and fuck. There really wasn't any confusion there. And I think they know you don't care what they think either, that one rings loud and clear everytime they look at your hair. I think they understand everything pretty clearly. Perhaps it's you who doesn't understand that your continual scumbag mentality continues to ruin the music experience for everyone. And the fact that you greet with open arms the press time that it gets you is just further proof of that.
They're not attacking rock and roll. They're attacking YOU.

"In the 80s, WHEN MUSIC WAS SHIT, it worked for them."
The 60's, the 70's and the 80's were the best decades for music... You must be one of those fuckers who think that today's music is the best.... jajajajajajajajajajajaja what a prick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Kids these days would laugh at these jagoffs now"
Kids these days think that 30 Seconds to Mars and Fucking HSM is great. They go with the flow.... they don't listen to real music. And i'm not talking about Motley Crue (although they have great songs).
