I thought Fade To Black was top quality tuff. Hetfield's voice is imrpoving. It's difficult in his 40's to hit the notes of 1986, but damn their show looks like it's gone up a notch this time. At last!
Here's to hoping for a really good solid metal album!

I've listened to a few shows recorded over the past couple of years - several from the past few months - I think that during the later portions of shows, James voices seems to regain some of the bite - the bark (if you will) he was once with throuighout an entire show.
Yeah - the age factor plays into this, but moreso (I think) is the problem of a war within. James (after the voice training) seems to be going for a balance between his older vocal style/sound and much of what we have heard beginning with the black album.
Just rambbling. Some good stuff up above in those clips.

I've seen Metallica 3 times... "Justice" tour twice, and once on the "black album" tour. I've also seen damn near every other band that's any good live. And most of them slaughter Metallica on stage! ...Including: Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest('90), In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Testament, and Dream Theater! All of the above bands put on incredible live shows. I would pay twice as much to see any of the above bands again, rather than pay the "1989-'90" price ($20.00) to see Metallica again. Worst part: I've been a die-hard Metallica fan since 1988. I own it all, up to the Black Album. I even have the old "Creeping Death" an "Jump In the Fire" Demos. But, a true Metallica fan can see them for their faults as well. And the bottom line is that they have never really been very good Live.

Ride the Lightning sounded pretty tight, especially compared to some of the recent performances that have been online lately. Lars actually kept it together for the most part. The other tracks up here I might've watched 10 seconds of till I knew what songs they were. Most bands as they get up there in age will slip a little, but there have been times that Metallica seem like they've done more than just slip. If all they did was really faithful renditions of the songs as they were recorded I'd be happy. No need for Lars to try to dress up the songs with these alternate fills that usually sound like absolute shit and make the pocket of the song crumble to pieces. Same for the vocal parts, when you do those older tracks that have balls sing them that way.

Jaymez not so much.. If 'lica are serious about new "metal" material they should get a new full time vocalist and hire a drummer (Hoglan?) for the studio. Larz would still butcher songs live, but we know he wouldn't leave the band so that would be the best compromise.

Really, if you're not impressed by Hetfield being 45 and able to pull off "Ride The Lightning" like that, get your ears checked, go to rehab, and get your head checked as well while you're at it.
I also like that they're not shying away from the GOOD material on the Load albums. I could do without Memory Remains but Bleeding Me, Devil's Dance, and Fuel are fine choices. Some 2 x 4 would be cool too.
And no one will agree with me but if they re-arranged some of the St. Anger tunes, added drums, and completely redid some vocal parts they'd sound alright live too. Ok maybe that's asking for a bit too much work.
I hope the album is good, I really don't want it to just be a throwback.

They leave the stage way too often. I mean I understand the occasional need to change guitars, etc, but it kills the momentum completely, and it usually takes another two songs to get going again when, what a surprise...they go off stage again. Other than that they are great live.

ride the lightning sounded really good, including vocals, and this comes from a die-hard cliff-era fan. of course james won't scream his ass off like on the original version because of his age, but come on, I think this has to be the best he can come up with today, and it's fine with me. and their guitars sound again like METALLICA guitars. the ones that everyone's been trying to emulate since the past 25 years.
I haven't felt that excited about a new Metallica release since the mid nineties. this has nothing to do with the hype but those live footages that are posted here and give me hope.

Maiden blows metallica out of the water and they have been doing it longer than Metallica. I saw Megadeth a few weeks ago and they sounded as good as ever. If you closed your eyes you could swear wake up dead was being played in 1988 instead of 2008. You sure as hell cant say that about the old metallica songs. not saying that they arent good, but its not the same and not nearly the best out there.

^^ Just like in the 90's when 'lica went alternative and in 03 when they went nu-metal. 'lica is now supposedly going metal again since metal is getting a resurgence in pop culture.
You think it is an accident that Slayer's Christ Illusion debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 Chart, the highest debut for any Slayer record, and 'lica decides to go metal? Metal is hip again, 'lica is chasing the trend.

The memory remains is an Iron Maiden song.
Especially live. Sounds like a Maiden live track with the audience. Very cool.
They sound tight. Hetfield has definitely has his voice under control. When to croon and when to stick to the album version like on RTL with the high intro to verse screech. Very authentic.

'Tal(entless)ica sucks hairy toilet !
...and have since 1991.
You fanboys were never true fans of them when they were good if you think this mall-muzak stool is good. Go back to the malls you puddles of faeces ! RIGHT NOW !
I am in fact having Jaymz, Larz, and Krk over at my house to scrub my latrine. Hopefully they are better at toilet-cleaning than they are at music.

you've clearly never seen seen maiden based on what you just said
either that or you're one of the people bruce rightly ticks off for smoking weed during gigs
maiden do joke about and apologise for when things go wrong
metallica get the whole crowd laughing AT them
also read this http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/moslive/article-1022475/He-aint-heavy-hes-captain----Iron-Maiden-rocker.html
this proves you wrong
maiden do know how absurd they can sometimes be and openly admit it
metallica on the other hand have never apologised for all the shit they've released since Master of Puppets and all their terrible live performances
so shut it, you're making a fool of yourself

Great stuff. And I've scarcely ever seen a melodic band where the odd vocal wasn't fluffed. Hetfield has nothing on or FF for that!

"Nothing you wrote anywhere proved me wrong, you're just acting like an ignorant child that can't type."
yes I didn't write it well spotted, The Mail on Sunday did....
"Iron Maiden could NEVER say the same."
oh sorry Maiden doesn't play every little festival ever. Also that says something bad about Metallica if they're going all out to appeal to everyone...that's called selling out...
as for Maiden being stuck in 1986....thats just ridiculous
sure the whole concept of this tour is "back in time" but that's as a reward to their LOYAL fanbase, and fans who weren't around back in 84-87. Maiden treats their fans better than any other band, Metallica just shits on them with album delays and "aside for Napster" thats quite a BIG "aside" you have there, pissing off a hell of a lot of people...whereas Maiden have never been embroiled in any scandal as such
on the previous tour Maiden played their entire new AMOLAD album in track order to sell out crowds and a very positive reaction (except for the odd few whingers who just want classics, probably people such as yourself). This album was also the highest selling since 7th Son.
this tour then ended with a intimate performance at Brixton academy in front of roughly 4500 fans for charity (CliveAid) which was mainly for the core fanbase showing Maiden have an immense connection with the fans. These types of shows happen on a regular basis. Maiden took no fee for the show unlike Metallica who command fees for charity performances.
besides, about a year ago I was as much a Metallica fan as I am a Maiden fan, I then saw both bands a week apart (Brixton and Wembley) so I got a good comparison. The reason I am no longer a major Metallica fan is because I was appalled with their live performance, which many considered a major improvement on previous performances. They cracked unfunny jokes and generally paraded around like drunken hillbillies whilst getting the crowd to sing half the songs for them, walking off stage and having about 4 guitar solos.
Maiden on the other hand, were incredibly professional but maintained a healthy contact with the crowd, they feed off the vibe and it makes them better at what they do than Metallica who rarely give a shit for where they are.
Over the course of this argument at no point have you backed any point you have made up with any kind of evidence or logical explanation, you've just insisted your opinion is correct whereas I have at least presented evidence and in general a sound argument.
If you really want to continue with your completely illogical argument then go ahead, you're just making yourself look ignorant and stupid, not me.
