Manager: We're 'Pretty Close' To Getting Deal Done To Find Four New Members Of KISS

Video footage has surfaced (see below) of KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons and the group's longtime manager, Doc McGhee of McGhee Entertainment, confirming what has been some fans' biggest fear for some years now — that Simmons and KISS co-founder Paul Stanley are indeed planning to keep KISS running and touring long after they decide to take off the make-up for good. During a familiar rant by Simmons about how KISS could go on forever, Stig Karlsen of Norway's NRK asked jokingly if the band would consider looking for replacements for Simmons and Stanley in a TV show, similar to programs like "Rock Star" and "American Idol". "The answer is yes. The deal has just been signed," Simmons replied. "It's coming soon." In a separate interview, Stanley was apparently not very happy to hear about his bandmate's statement regarding KISS' future. "There is no signed deal," Stanley said. "Again, when we are both aked the same question sometimes, you get different answers," Stanley added, "What will happen, we'll see as we go along. But is something going to happen next week? Is something signed? No. But am I opposed to the idea of going out and trying to find new KISS members through the television? Of course not." In the one-and-a-half-minute clip, which is part of a one-hour-long KISS special which will air on NRK in September, McGhee can be seen stating, "I believe that KISS can go on forever. I believe that there is a way — and we are talking to people and we're pretty close to getting it done — about finding the four new members of KISS." According to NRK, Stanley said that the members of VELVET REVOLVER were planning a similar stunt to find the replacement for lead singer Scott Weiland, who was fired at the end of the band's European tour earlier this year. However, in the end the band decided not to do it, according to Stanley, because of VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash's wish to remain "cool" and credible to his fans. "I don't have to be that cool," Stanley reportedly told NRK with a smile.

if you think about it, this is pretty smart. Theres money to be paid/made in a deal like this. (imo it will flop!)
if theyd have gotten 4 new people, and NOT told the masses this info, gone out and played a show advertised as "KISS", knowing everyone wont be fooled... that woulda been a disaster!
My only thing is, im not against the idea of a scam team, but they should play songs from ALL the albums. If youre gonna celebrate history, celebrate ALL of history.

Surely - retire the band, name, brand you have your $$ and fun.. live a life with your family, dont waste time on books, kiss dolls, kiss anything, just enjoy retirement like older men should. I love kiss, but kiss without ace sucks, kiss without any original members is just a kiss broadway.. and im sure its been done before!!
I was a big fan of kiss, and i lose more respect for them each day, hell how about giving ace a try at getting his job back!

i wouldnt be surprised if a cable channel picked it up as simmons show is dong well. it probably woud get good ratings because of that. but any of you that think they are serious about kss going on without them, are pretty naive ..this is just more typical nonsense talk and actions as of late . similar to the direction they took in 1980 that lost them most of their fans .i thought they learned. not all publicity is good publicity. they just keep making themselves look more and more stupid

.. is that KISS and McGhee seem to be miscalculating on this one. I predict the fans will balk at the 'official KISS tribute band', because that's all they'll be -- one in a long line of KISS tributes, only this time, endorsed by Gene and Paul, so they get to keep most of the money.
If they want KISS to 'go on forever', they should do what the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and other heavies have done, and GO AWAY.
Some great guitarist once said, "ALWAYS leave them wanting more...."
At this rate, people will be happy to dump KISS. Paul and Gene should think twice. On the other hand, if they can each squeeze a couple hundred more measly dollars out ofa deal, something tells me they'd sell their mothers' ashes to do it.

as much as I got into the 'New Monkeys' or whatever it was called. And they're gonna go the reality tv route? They'll lose more respect than Ozzy. If I didn't care about being cool I'd care about this gay thing. Problem is, back in the 70's and early eighties they had some good music, but that was then. Now they want to get the bored, not so horny, housewife demographic? After all, American Idol's average age viewership has gotten older every year. The ONLY thing KISS can do to save themselves is to go the Extreme Death metal choking on glass noise approach so they can appeal to the young angry crowd as you knoe full well old 40 somethings like me won't give 'em the time of day.

First of all, what does this mean for KISS tribute bands? Are they going to do a stop order on them, because, really what's the difference?
Also, I think this could work, but basically as a show in Vegas or something, if they did a deal with a casino and played there every night. I can't really see a touring version of faux-KISS being very successful.

I've been a huge KISS fan for over 32 years and have generally been supportive of "most" things they have done, BUT(!) this crosses the line. I will not support a "NEW" KISS with ALL new members. It was one thing in the 80's when they took the make-up off and had a rotating line-up for a few years. At least Gene & Paul were still there AND they didn't have other people wearing Ace & Peter's make-up. I was on the fence about the current line-up because of that, but realised it was their only choice at this point and musically at least, they are better with Eric & Tommy. However, I am TOTALLY against them going on without Gene & Paul. It's like the Beatles touring without John & Paul, or Led Zep touring without Jimmy & Robert (relax, I'm not comparing them musically, it's just a metaphor), it just won't work. I can see Gene doing this, but I'm surprised Paul would go for this. I remember around the time of Revenge, (back when KISS actually made new music) Paul stated in an interview that if it ever came to a point where KISS had to put on the make-up and costumes and just be a nostalgia act, he wouldn't be into that. Unfortunately, that's what KISS has turned into. The only shred of authenticity thats left in KISS is the fact that 2 orginal members are still there. Take that away and you've got nothing except the worlds biggest cover band...and no fans I predict. Believe me, if I no longer want to be a fan then I can't see many other fans falling for this garbage. Lets hope Paul comes to his senses and puts a stop to this. I have a bad feeling thats not going to happen though. KISS Idol...god help us!

I loved the original KISS makeup era,I really liked (most of) the out of make up era,was stoked to see the runion shows,kinda dug Psycho circus and even tolerate the other guys in peter and ace's make up. But all this will be is a well financed tribute band. I can get more entertainment by waiting til Mini KISS hits some bar in Houston.
Saw Ace at the Meridian last month and he was playing at 1976-78 levels and beyond.

Not to mention that this band makes me want to smash this computer screent he more I read about them, but other than my hatred of them I'll calm down for the sake of writing about this.
to the people that think it'll just be some kind of travelling overpriced cover band, well I don't think Kiss is THAT stupid. Stupid bastards they are, but not that dumb. I think in their minds is that the stage show will be huge so fans will still go with all the explosions and shit. They should just do what Kraftwerk did and replace the whole band with fucking robots (Kraftwerk did it as kind of a statement btw, and it was COOL when they did it). The only way I can see this working in the long run is that if they continued to do different types of shows with more theatrical stuff addded in, maybe rides, carnival type shit to go along with it, or just like a lot of different stuff added in to the regular show, even if it just means some super expensive light show, etc.. I don't think they'd be able to pull off just doing the overpriced cover band deal, thats my point.
Do different tours with different eras emphasized, shit even do an Elder tour only complete with actors and shit.
Ok, I hope they don't read this because I'm giving the assholes ideas.

Since you're already planning the ultimate sell-out with all new members, how about just going way overboard and put together a HUNDRED new KISS's?!?
Imagine it.. KISS could be the first band EVER to play SIMULTANEOUSLY in 100 different cities around the world!!
I can see it now.. Live coverage from MTV, Fox, NBC, ABC, VH1, whoever, as KISS (versions 1 through 50) rings in the NEW YEAR in ever single time zone across the globe AT THE SAME TIME!!
You could one in virtually every single country on the planet, each singing 'Rock N Roll All Night' in each country's respective language!
MTV could go to a 50 piece split-screen simulcast, where the entire UNIVERSE would see KISS making history yet again!
ALSO... you could sell RAFFLE tickets for $1000 a piece where the ticket holder gets to guess which ONE version of KISS is the 'original' (even though Ace and Peter are already gone), for a chance to split the $100,000,000 in TV revenues you'll surely rake in from the extravaganza.

compared to simmons', your idea is pretty cool!
what about hundreds of kiss's playing at the same time on the same stage? a KISS ARMY in the real sense, with dozens of drums, dozens of basses and a f*ckload of guitars, mimicking the same gestures in sync. the songs would take the form of gospels, as at least 50 kiss's would sing detroit rock city in different keys. the idea of a canon might also be explored.
of course, due to the rising costs of paying accommodation for hundreds of artists at a time and also having to build special venues for the shows, the tickets would probably be 10k each, but that won't be a problem

You know what really bugs me is that if they were paid, meaning Gene and Paul, by each individual sale, whether it was merchandise that Gene keeps bragging on how many patents he now has, or shows that they do, these ideas and items would not do well for them and they would have never done all of this, and will continue to still do because of this fact. Its all about being paid upfront by all these other companies, managers and promoters, etc., etc.. If anything is ever successful or not, they dont care. They have been already paid a huge amount. The sales would just be extra icing to them. Negotiate the deal first and pay me first is all what it is about.
How many KISS rubber ducks do you really think they have sold, or toothbrushes? It didnt matter. Gene got paid and there is another patent and idea to brag about. The companies, promoters and all are the ones that have to worry whether thy make their money back and a profit on top of it. Those ducks made the money back, and probably little profit if any at all. On the outside looking in, it looks like they sold a lot of those. If they did great, if not, I still got paid and my name is still out there good or bad, who cares? This new KISS will be the same thing. As long as they got a bit more hunk of change up front, who cares.

They are to old and too far up the successful ladder to care about their legacy and past being tarnished. Its how many times I get paid, up front, before I cant walk anymore or die.

Wow. End of an Era.
Gene and kiss management is looking to keep the ca$h cow going, and paul is against it...
I can see where it'll work, but I'll say that by doing this has absolutely tarnish their reputation and legacy. This is very lame.

Seriously
All those people who did not like the band since their first day are making party right now by bashing them for what they doing. Please if you don't like them just stop go away and search for another band because with all this jealousy about money are making them more popular.
True, I was hurt and very sad when ace took off ( I did not care for criss) because as a drummer I prefer singer's skills. But I did not bash them and hate them.. why? Because through all these years they gave us great music and concerts. I don't care how are they going to be in the next years all that matters to me is that the current line up is great ( still I prefer more Ace than tommy) and they are doing great success here in Europe more than ever. All that matters right now is that KISS are a great band and about their future its obvious that we can't imagine gene paul in their 60's continue to perform they have to retire sometime. And when they do I don't care anymore about the new line up but I WILL CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO THEIR SONGS and not bashing them for what they're doing.

I'm gonna take the unpopular point of view... guys, look at it this way... Paul and Gene have no drive left for KISS... they're doing what they always said they didn't want to do which is just "going through the motions"... yet because the shows are being seen by whole new audiences worldwide, they've acquired a whole NEW fan base of 13 year olds who are just as addicted as we were at that age... The people who become "contestants" for this will probably be HUGE fans from tribute bands around the globe... who might just have a clearer vision of what the fans REALLY want than Paul or Gene have at this point.... so there JUST MIGHT be some amazingly talented, younger, more energetic guys out there that can turn KISS back into a "band"... and breathe some life back into it.... I've written them several times about writing new songs that SOUND like KISS... I don't think they see any difference between Lick it Up and I STole Your Love... but WE do... and maybe someone else will... remember... "Do you love me" wasn't written by a KISS member... and the only one in KISS who played on "Larger Than Life" was Gene... yet BOTH of those songs are classic KISS... it just MIGHT be anle to be done... let's wait and see....
