LED ZEPPELIN's PAGE, JONES Perform With FOO FIGHTERS In London; Video, Photos Available - June 7, 2008
According to a posting on the Ramble On LED ZEPPELIN fan blog, ZEPPELIN's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joined the FOO FIGHTERS onstage Saturday night (June 7) during the final encore of the Dave Grohl-fronted band's concert at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The ZEPPELIN duo and the FOOS played "Rock And Roll" with Dave Grohl on drums and FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins singing (see video footage below). Grohl and Hawkins then switched places for "Ramble On" (see video footage below).

In the past Grohl has intimated that he would be willing to drum for ZEPPELIN should they reunite, so this event probably falls in the dream-come-true category for Grohl.

Check out photos of the performance at BBC.co.uk.

...there'll doubtless be bozos on here saying Dave Grohl has no right to share the stage with Zeppelin (though I hope I'm wrong)

Anyway, I went to the show the night before (dammit) and it was loud, heavy and spectacular - with the No.1 frontman out there right now (definitely in a top ten with Ozzy, Freddie, Paul Stanley, David Lee Roth and Prince)

While I wouldn't wave a flag for Grohl's originality - most of his best songs sound, as he'd probably admit, like Husker Du - he's got a handful of stone-cold classics under his belt, and at least one cut from the new album (But Honestly) went down as well as Best Of You etc

And, like 'em or not, we should be proud of the Foo Fighters for selling out two nights at a stadium when most hard rock acts can only do one night in an arena in Britain

As for people claiming Zeppelin had only one good album or were overrated, you're entitled to your opinion. But Blabbermouth and half the bands on it probably wouldn't exist without them

stoop to playing with such an average band, the Foo Fighters have some alright stuff, but what happened to Zeppelin's mystique? and the Hammer of the Gods? Not "Oh yeah, we'll play with some safe shitty rock band, sure"

I find this a bit ironic. Me and my buddy missed the foo when they came to town. I compared it to missing Led Zeppelin in their prime. May not have seemed like a big deal at the time but when you look back... ouch.

So yeah, its not metal and they aren't the greatest band of all time but I do like to think of Foo Fighters as one of the greats in modern popular music. They do what they want and they do it well. And... they basically were Led Zeppelin for a night.

Because time marches on and Page and Jones like to play rock music live. If they can do that with Foo Fighters -- who have not one but two fucking awesome drummers -- then why the hell not? Mystique be damned -- that ended a long, long time ago.

Miserable career? You're right, cause poor ol' Dave can't sell records, he can't sell out STADIUMS and/or play with legends. The guy must hate himself every day. What a dumbshit you are. Queen along with Plant and Jones really hold Dave and his band in pretty high reguards. Guess I don't get it but that is why I live in middle america and they all will accidentally lose more money than I will ever make.

I have to wonder if the Foo Fighters, Queen and Led Zepplin will ever do a show together. The groundwork seems to have been laid.

Someone earlier said that Led Zepplin only had one good record. WOW, I'd be REAL interested in seeing what he/she believes IS a good record. Seeing as the first 4 are nearly as important to today's music as any 4 as I can think of.

What a tool!!

Dude, what are you -- 12???

NIRVANA was the biggest band in the world when Grohl was bashing drums for them.

Then the ultra-talented Grohl started the Foo Fighters - having written the entire debut album BEFORE he ever even joined Nirvana... all those hit songs just sitting in a notebook waiting for years to come to life.

One the FF debut, he demo'ed the entire album himself - covering vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, in addition to writing every second of music and lyrics, AND producing the recording.

Can you do anything like that? Thought so.

They've sold MILLIONS of records, won Grammy Awards, and shared the stage with a veritable whos-who list of rock royalty.

And despite that, Grohl still takes the time to record a METAL album, colaborating with the likes of Tom Fischer, King Diamond, Max Cavalera, and Lemme Kilmeister, just because he loves metal.

He's widely regarded in the industry as one of THE most respected players, writers, and performers, and a genuine nice guy who everyone wants to collaborate with.

Tom Petty once asked Grohl to join the Heartbreakers as his new drummer.

So let's add it all up:

Page and Jones dig him.
Tom Petty digs him.
He's played in two of the biggest bands in the world.
Record labels dig him.
Fans dig him.
He plays every instrument, and just about every style.
He wrote a million+ seller and didn't even bother to record it for several years.
He's sold millions of records.
He's won grammy awards.
He's a metal fan, and helped turn on crowds of new listeners to the artists with whom he collaborated on the Probot project.
He's not a tool like you.

In total, Dave Grohl pretty much kicks your sorry ass all over the place, you little queen.

"Whateva! I do what I want!"

Obviously I'd take Zeppelin over the Foo any day. I was just saying the Foo Fighters are one of the few artists in popular music that are able to balance appeal and respect. They are the one pop artist I would kind of regret missing.

I can't really regret missing Zeppelin in their hayday considering that I was born 8 days before John Bonham died but it certainly would have been rad.

For the record, having just read what you wrote in response to the posts of others, I just thought I would mention the following opinions:

- intricacy in itself is not an indicator of great music
- lack of intricacy is not an indicator of poor musicianship or lack of ability. Personally I find I can have just as much respect for passion and conviction in music and for people that have a passion for music, as for technical ability and execution.
- writing prolonged diatribes relating to people's education or time spent at the mall doesn't really bolster your argument
- if you don't like Dave Grohl, that's rad, you obviously are passionate about your hatred for him. It'd be cool to know that you are actually famliar with all of his work before accusing it of catering to mall going teenagers. That's never the impression I got from Dave or anything he has done.

Why does he need to over-scream his lungs out abusively in live shows?

Same problem with Hawkins. When watching a Foo Fighters show, the unnecessary screaming becomes very annoying after a few songs.

Who do you think you are? Slayer? Pantera?

Screaming is no big deal for Tom Araya or Phil Anselmo, as it's almost natural for them, and fits quite well with the music itself, but for Grohl, it's overkill and seems like a hard task for him most of the time.

Ramble On doesn't require as much screaming in the chorus. It's a Zeppelin song, not a Slayer cover. Rock and Roll's vocals are overkill too. Sammy Hagar did it 100 times better during the Live Without a Net show.

Let's not forget Foo Fighters is a radio-friendly alternative band. They're not the ones who wrote Raining Blood or Walk. They're the ones who wrote Monkey Wrench and The Best of You. In my opinion, they're trying to have the attitude of a band they aren't.

As mentioned previously in a few posts, Probot was a masterpiece though.

Whatever man. I wouldn't take any of this too seriously. I don't really care who Page and Jones play with. Led Zeppelin died in 1980 and I don't really follow the Foo Fighters closely enough to care what they do either. I was making casual observations.

Grohl is the embodiment of the perfect Generation X music fan. We 80's children know how to rock. We pay homage to Chuck Berry...salute the Beatles...hurt our necks with Deep Purple and Led Zep....go into the hospital with Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and Metallica...Throw in some Pantera and other great 90's metal bands to round us out a bit....then continue the musical love well into our late 30's with no signs of losing our edge.

David Grohl...you rock bro. Keep up the love for all things music. Lucky bastard for playing with Page/Jones!!!
