Convicted Murderer VARG VIKERNES Once Again Denied Parole

Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) — is too dangerous to be released into society, according to justice officials. Government critics fear that his background as an ideologically motivated church-burning arsonist, and his connections with neo-Nazi groups, are making it impossible for him to get a fair parole hearing, according to Aftenposten. Vikernes is serving a 21-year sentence, the maximum that Norwegian law allows, for murder and setting fire to three churches in 1993. Having spent the last 15 years behind bars and after serving two-thirds of his prison time, he has become eligible to apply for parole. Case workers at the Justice Ministry fear that Vikernes will be unable to adjust to life on the outside after his years in jail. They have turned down his application, according to Aftenposten. "I can't understand it. They want me to make arrangements with social services, even though this is unnecessary. Must I be on welfare in order to be released? I have a house, a job and a family waiting for me," Vikernes — who is married, with one daughter (aged 15) and a son (aged nine months) — told daily newspaper VG. The authorities emphasize that Vikernes escaped from prison in 2003 and that he has ties to neo-Nazi groups. "I haven't been in contact with them for a long time. Police security services know this," Vikernes responded. Parole authorities refuse to comment on the reasons for rejecting his application, referring to the confidentiality that surrounds such hearings, reports Aftenposten. "The authorities are worried that they might be considered to be soft on unpopular convicts," says a professor of criminology at the University of Oslo, Kristian Andenæs, when criticizing the verdict. He went there to sort out a contract, then Euronymous kicked him, so he hit back. Euronymous ran off to get a weapon, not to escape him at first. He only ran off after Euronymous stabbed him the first time. And as for me being stupid, that is completely unfounded. I'm about to go off to university this september to study accountancy, at an outstanding uni at that. I achieved grades AAB in subjects such as philosophy, History and physics (I did my exams last year, took a gap year). I'm not some idiot who poses for pictures on myspace with knives etc, I don't make any stupid satanic comments etc. Still think I'm stupid?

I know what the professionals were able to prove in a court of law. It was blatantly obvious that there was a murder here caused by this guy. Ever notice how when people talk about this guy it's almost never about his music? Would anybody even care about him if he hadn't committed crimes? I doubt it, because none of Burzum's music gave me the impression that Varg was a good or even competent musician.
As for his jail time in Norway, well if you check out the bonus footage in Michael Moore's "Sicko" you'll see that Norwegian prisons aren't exactly Folsom or San Quentin. Norwegian prisons seem more like a summer camp or a resort. If he had been put in an American prison, things would have been a lot different for him.

Dude, I don't want to get into this argument or anything, but the story the way we know it ('cause none of us was there, I'm assuming) is that Varg showed up at Euro's place in the middle of the night (3AM), got him to open the door with an excuse and then killed him. The man was in his underwear, for god's sake, how could anybody even remotely believe that Euro attacked first! I mean, the poor guy was stabbed to death in his underwear, how do you suppose he was supposed to attack Varg in the first place? Then again thank god Varg had a knife in his back pocket! At least he was able to defend himself properly, right?!
Coming to more serious issues. I saw on Burzum's website that there is a Hungarian (whatever) tribute to Burzum coming out soon, so I check out the songs on the album and guess what one of the bands is covering? "War"! Jesus! Everybody knows War is a Bathory song and that Burzum was covering it in the first place! I mean, how lame can you get! Someone please comment on this, do you guys agree with me?!?

Perhaps you guys should read "Lords of Chaos - The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground" by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind. This book has an accurate account of what happened leading up to and the actual act of the murder of Euronymous. It has testimony, comments and quotes from ALL parties involved in the slaying.
You guys are kinda on the right track but so far nobody here has really gotten it right.
Also im sure a country like Norway that is liberal enough to NOT have a death penalty is also probably liberal enough to allow inmates to have conjugal visits with their wives...

I read the book. That's were I got my info from, cause as I was saying nobody can really know the precise truth aside from Varg of course...
What I also remember from back then is that one week after Euronymous was killed Kerrang came out with Varg on its cover and this idiot gave out an interview saying that he hadn't killed Euronymous but that he would piss on his grave. Gee, that was smart I thought when they jailed him like one week after that...talk about laying low, right?

Correct. But Euronymous kicked Varg after Varg asked Euronymous about his plot to kill him, so Varg hit back. The knife Varg did have with him was in the car with Snorre, the other "knife" he had was short and blunt (less than 10cm in length). He stabbed Euronymous after he tried to run into the kitchen for a weapon, then tried to run for his bedroom, where he had claimed before that night that he had a gun.

Why the fuck does everyone bring up the academic thing? I mentioned it once, and all of a sudden it's an issue that people think they need to address. Just drop it for fucks sake, get a life. And just for the record, A levels is not just memorising stuff, that literally would get well below half marks. You do need to understand it. Try reading philosophy books and you'll see what I mean.
And I got about half of the information I know about it from his blogs, and have gotten information elsewhere (not from wikipedia, i may add).

And you're pretty damn sad if you find it fun to argue with people over the internet. By the way, how many accountants have you known in your career? I'm sure it's probably a very small proportion of them out of the number of them worldwide. There are "boring" people in most jobs; teachers, doctors, lawyers, police officers, the list goes on. And how can you base someone's personality when you only see them during working hours?

The academic thing was not to make people feel jealous, or to show off. It was a reply to some guy who called me stupid, twice, for no reason. I said it in my defense, nothing else, then after that people took it completely out of context and started giving me shit over it, despite the fact that it was aimed at one person. I've only ever mentioned it after that post to explain to people why I said it.

I take factual statistics that go back for many years more seriously than I do Varg's blogs that state his innocence, let's put it that way. There are indeed many boring people. as far as the Varg thing goes, I care not to get too detailed with this issue. I said my pieces in between my silly debate. The coroner's and detective's can read through the lies of criminals. It seems to me that there is a pretty laid back legal system over there and the guy still got the max. The fact is, he didn't have to kill this guy. This was pure self defense to him but when you look into what the coroners say about the glass it is apparent that Varg seems to be lying. I just don't care that much about this. A little interesting but I'm not a huge fan of the guys music anyway. He is overrated due to his reputation. I think I'm more of a death metal guy when it comes to the heavier stuff. To me, DM IS heavier and more intricate provided the band of course. There is also some cool BM too though.

my preference points more in the direction of Death Metal than Black Metal but there was some amazing BM music coming outta that region at that time too. Mayhem Emperor Darkthrone Enslaved Dissection all good stuff in my opinion. Although Dissection always seemed to be kinda crossover you know? A little black metal, a little swedish melodic death metal.. i dont know maybe thats just me

Dude, in the UK and Europe, college is called "university" or "uni" for short. It's very common and used by pretty much everyone.

In the US it's called college and the rest of the world calls it university or uni. You would know this if you ever stepped foot outside the US.

I am glad to see this news bit still stirred a lot of reactions and debate. It proves that BURZUM meant something outside of the musical genre it belonged to. Whatever the fact you agree with Varg or not is not the key here...
Someone went beyond the common ground of 'entertainment' and transcended it's artistic creations by giving them ideological value, let alone political ones too.
Varg is not a treat to society at all, his mistake was to kill someone he simply should have beaten the crap out of and come out of it clean. Two angry young men went mad at each other and it went out of control. He's serving his time for that.
Once Varg will be released (as he will someday, sooner or later) he'll probably vanish in the country side and live a normal life with his family, far away from the influence of the idiots who never understood anything to the inherent value of his musical contributions to a genre which has nothing to do of you.
