Great setlist, too bad they included the track Fuel. Otherwise it would have been perfect. Why not something a little different instead? Through the Never, Am I Evil?, or Small Hours would have been bad ass.

bat-shit-ecstatic they didn't play "Enter Sandman" or "One"
I would kill for them to do a tour without playing either of those songs.
I know they are the "classic" MetallicA songs but, each show would be better without those.
Especially delete Sandman or as I call it, "every none MetallicA fans' favorite MetallicA song"
First time I saw them there were plenty of people sitting the whole time, until they closed with Sandman and then they got up and went nuts, then left after and didnt stay for the encore, annoying.

Lets take out Sandman and One, and Skynard can take out Freebird, Motorhead can take out The Ace Of Spades, Deep Purple can take out Smoke On The Water and Sabbath? No Paranoid or Iron Man. YOU PLAY THE HITS ON TOUR BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT MOST FANS WANT TO HEAR! Who gives a fuck about what some whiny misanthropic asshats on blabbermouth think.

I think Fuel is a great live track, and like somebody said above it's really over with the crowd.
I don't think the Load and Reload CDs are nearly as bad as a lot of the internet geniuses make claim to. I think there are some throwaway tracks, but there are also quite a few songs from those 2 CDs that I enjoy. Fuel is one of them, Waste My Hate is another and I think King Nothing has always rocked.

I have never posted on this site, but figured a review by an actual old METALLICA fan who was at this might interest some:
Let me start the tale by saying I remember the first time I saw METALLICA I had just turned 11 and was in 6th grade... it was a Sunday morning and this kid I knew called me up and said "Hey man, there's this great metal show up outside of Baltimore and we have 3 tickets but no ride, can you get your folks to drive us up there?". I asked my Mom and for some reason she agreed to take us the one hour north of our VA home to a little bar outside of Baltimore called the Coast To Coast in Catonsville, MD. She dropped us off and I had one of the earliest and best metal experiences of my life that day.
It was the "Metal Massacre '85" tour, featuring W.A.S.P., METALLICA, and ARMORED SAINT!!! "Ride The Lightning" had just come out in Fall of '84 I believe, and METALLICA was on fire. We were so small we climbed up in the PA system so we could see, got our faces blasted off and fuckin' thrashed like it was our job. THOSE were the days of metal, I hate to say it and sound like some jaded old metalhead, but they were. If you had been there you'd know what I meant, and those who were do. 100's of thrashers all with long hair banging their heads and going nuts, METALLICA playing 4000 miles an hour, Cliff Burton crushing the bass, it was sick.
So, after that the next time METALLICA came to our area was with OZZY on the "Ultimate Cheese" tour when they opened for him in 1986. I wasn't gonna be caught DEAD at that show getting "Shot in the Dark" or whatever, although the album METALLICA was touring for was "Master of Puppets", I didn't feel the need to go see them in a stadium when there was now so many other great underground thrash shows still playing in clubs all over town. So I skipped it... and every other show they played for the next 23 years.
Over the years I saw METALLICA tarnish their name, put out a movie that made them look like complete lame asses, and it got to the point when I would jokingly call them METALLISA or say they should take the word METAL out of their name because they were not worthy of using it any more!
So when I got off work last night, and happened to call a buddy of mine who told me "yeah man, I'm over at Grimey's waiting for METALLICA to play" I was shocked at myself for actually getting excited. Grimey's is a great independent record store here in Nashville, TN - a town I just moved to last year. They have a live music venue in the bottom of their store building, known as The Basement, which is where the show was. He had told me it was a "fan club" only thing, so he hadn't gotten in- but figured I'd give it a shot.
I raced over there, and just as I parked and was walking towards the venue I see James walking along and realize the band is filing into the club to play! So I kind of join the back of their 'posse' and was walking along side the new bass player, I don't even know his name, but the guy with the braids or whatever. So we walk past the first security and people are taking pictures of them and stuff as we walk, and then some bald cue ball dude who probably works for their label or something was like "hey man, what's up?" and I said "not much, just going in" and he called me out and told some guy that "I wasn't with them" but by then I'd walked over to say hi to my friends anyway because I didn't feel like having a run in with some queefpipe over this whole scene.
It became instantly obvious that most of the people who were actually "inside" the show weren't old fans or anything, many of them were just industry folks and so on- there's a lot of them here in Nashville and especially since everyone is in town for the Bonnaroo fest. The show started, and they wouldn't let the 30 of us who weren't 'connected' enough to have the sticker/passes go in. But they let us hang out on the patio and listen, so from the outside I heard them bust out "No Remorse" and I have to say... as much as I wanted to have them suck as much as I had come to think they do... I put it aside and just listened and it all came flooding back. They sounded GREAT! Especially since I couldn't see them it took me back to 'the day', and I was glad to hear METALLICA sounding METAL again!
I listened to the first half of the show from out there, and eventually a friend of mine got a couple passes, took his lady in, and brought her pass back out for me to use to get in. I walked in right as "Master..." started, and I have to say- even after I could see the band, they were ON again. I walked over to Kirk's side, because I figured I should support the only member of the band to still have long hair (and not put it in braids). He was cookin', burning the leads and sounded great! Lars's Dad (aka the guy with the grey beard from the movie who said "About that track... I think you should delete it")
I was shocked that nobody seemed to be excited or going wild, everyone was just standing there! I mean, I wasn't expecting people to be pitting or something, but shit, at least a head bob or something now and then!! There were a couple fists in the air for choruses and things now and then, but overall the crowd was tame. But as I said, I think many of these folks were just there to "be there" and weren't even METALLICA or METAL fans at all.
By the time "Motorbreath" started I had enough and I worked my way up front for a little old school headbanging to the last two classics! One guy next to me was inspired enough to remove his baseball cap for a minute and bob his head, and I even asked this one lady standing there to join me in a head bang telling her "you're one of the only long hairs here!!"
What can I say man, I was skeptical, and I'm jaded, but METALLICA ripped last night. If they can keep up that pace, if Lars can learn to be content with "stock" riffs and play METAL like they used to, I think there's hope. No, honestly it wasn't the same as in '85, but that was then and this is now, and for now, they sounded F'ing great.
That's the bottom line from the front line down here in Nashville, TN folks.
There is HOPE for METALLICA.
Thrash on.

The only SUICIDAL TENDENCIES album I own is the first one on vinyl, and the bassist is Louiche Mayorga on that, so I'm not sure which line up the braided hair guy plays on but not any that I'm familiar with.
I think I knew he was from a later S.T. lineup from when they showed him in that Metallica movie jumping around on his bed because he was excited to be in the band. Seems like a nice enough guy and played bass well at this show, but as far as his connection to 'classic thrash', I can't find it. Maybe if I had followed S.T. past 1987 (when I got the "Possessed to Skate" 12" and then called it a day) I would have recognized him, but for that I don't think I'm a poser- there was just other killer thrash stuff to listen to.
