SLIPKNOT: New Single Sample, Artwork Available
- June 15, 2008
|
|
An audio sample of the new SLIPKNOT single "All Hope Is Gone" is available at Amazon.com. The track, which will be released digitally on June 20, comes off the group's long-awaited new album, which is due on August 26 via Roadrunner Records. Other working songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Moth", "Chapter One", "The Eleventh March", "Dirge", "Dead Memories", "Vendetta" and "Psycho Social". A heavier track from the new SLIPKNOT album will be sent to metal radio shows this week, with an official rock radio single coming on June 30. SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor told Billboard.com last month that the group's new album will "rip your face off," adding, "I don't think the world will be ready for this album." The group's yet-to-be-titled fourth effort will follow up 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", with Taylor calling it a "very dark" cross between that and its 2001 sophomore CD, "Iowa". Taylor described the new record as having "so much power in it and yet there are so many great spots for melody...It's a controlled chaos that hits you right out of the gate." Taylor, who also fronts the more melodic STONE SOUR, said that his vocals are in a similar vein on this SLIPKNOT outing. He explained, "I got to the point where I was tired of pretending that I couldn't sing every time I made a SLIPKNOT album, so this time I'm going all out." As for the album's lyrical direction, Taylor revealed, "Instead of bitching about what went wrong in my life, I'm bitching about what's wrong in life, period." New images on SLIPKNOT's official web site have hinted at a change in the masks and costumes that are a trademark of the Iowa-based nine-piece. Taylor described the new outfits as "evolved," adding that they are "very dark and will fit in everything image-wise that we're making with this album." The Rockstar Energy trek, which SLIPKNOT is co-headlining with DISTURBED, kicks off on July 9 in Seattle. (Thanks: Mike Davis)

Still, the best of this band has always been the drums and Corey's voice...

..but that song sounded pretty decent. A lot better then the nu-metal bullshit we are used to. It seems bands are getting more creative nowadays. Incorporating solos and trying to get out of the typical same riff over and over again...what is the world coming to when slipknot has solos. Who cares who they ripped off, it's a huge improvement and this is coming from a death metal head who's fav band is Bloodbath and strongly against nu-metal.

okays, wells this are what i are gun say: 1. MetalliSociety: Mushroomhead was in the process of signing, while slipknot was recording their demo for RR. The real only similarity between the two bands is the masks, they sound nothing alike so everyone needs to stop being whiny bitches about both, and i mean both sides of the argument. 2. The only reason people think bunches of little kids listen to Slipknot is because these tard lilttle kids listen to a few songs from Vol 3 and thats it, they dont know any of their other music, and they think theyre amazing by those few songs they have. 3. Ive never heard of Skinny Puppy, so im not gonna say anything (ima gonna go look nows.) 4. Sounds like it will be a cool album.

Slipknot used the S logo many many times over - and it's the same S that's on their debut album logo.
As far as the background artwork, it was also used back when they released the double DVD.
Thirdly, Skinny Puppy is very very cool... but based on their history, most people could give a shit - and it's very doubtful that the Slipknot guys were biting on their style.
and Finally, Mushroomhead are ok... but are a clan of whiny bitches because they can't write good songs that appeal to anyone but Slipknot haters.
Shut the fuck up, and go on with your career. While Slipknot's playing huge multi-thousand seat venues, you'll still be playing your little clubs to the 45 people that give a shit.

I used to be sceptical about Slipknot. Yeah, the show looked great, and there were a few killer cuts on Iowa. But was there more to them? Hell yeah. Vol 3 is great: hard-as-fuck anthems but ALSO off-kilter stuff that's dark and unsettling and, wow, unexpected and interesting (remember that? It was what music used to be like before everyone started trying to sound the fucking same)
I like Stone Sour too - and if anyone doubts Corey can sing, check out the YouTube clips of him with Camp Freddy that were posted on here a coupla weeks back - but Slipknot really have evolved into something more interesting
And to the guy who talked about Skinny Puppy - well, I'm old enough to remember them too. While they were certainly innovative and influential, they weren't actually very good, which is why I'd rather listen to the people who were influenced by them, whether it's NIN, Prodigy or Slipknot
As for the Mushroomhead debate - god, didn't that get settled years ago? It's about as interesting as whether Black Sabbath or Deep Purple invented heavy metal (no offence to any 'shroom fans - you like what you like, I like what I like)

Fair enough. You obviously know their stuff better than I do. I wouldn't make any grand claims for Slipknot's originality, but I do think there's more to them than it might appear. Having said that, one of the main reasons I like 'em is the whole image thing. From the masks to the album artwork to the videos, I think they're doing everything right in that department (I grew up with Kiss, it's their fault)
Any SP stuff you'd particularly recommend? I'm certainly prepared to be proved wrong

Just to clear things up about the logo... y'know. They've had that "S" since their self titled album. Possibly even before that on "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." (But I wouldn't know about the album before the self titled since I never owned a copy of it.)
But anyway. Point is. They've had their shitty little "S" for quite some time. Whoop-di-doo.

First off, this sample sounds like Hatebreed.
Now, after reading everyone's rants about whatever, I thought I'd post my opinions...coz I know everyone cares and all haha.
THE 'S' LOGO: This has been with them from the beginning. Joey Jordison came up with it and also the Slipknot name logo. Corey has it tattood on his arm as do other members I think and yeah, it's definitely been around from the start.
THE PENTAGRAM-STYLE THINGY: Was on their Disasterpieces DVD, and I think was on the Iowa artwork, regardless it's old too.
ORIGINAL MEMBERS: Root was not on the S/T CD, so whoever said Slipknot still has all their original members was uneducated. But I'm pretty sure the old guitarist left straight after recording and Root played their first tour for the CD. I *think* anyway!
MUSHROOMHEAD: I could care less about, and if their music was better it wouldn't matter who wore masks and who didn't wear masks and whatever. It's all just publicity either started by fans or the bands, but I doubt anyone cares, if you're good at writing music you'll make it, if you've got good promo you'll get the word out, etc etc, like, Mushroomhead obviously haven't made the right decisions with their band, so bad luck. Life's tough, don't go blaming everyone else. Sorry, but I'm not an overly massive Slipknot fan or anything, I used to be, but the whole Mushroomhead thing is lame and always has been. I don't care if Mushroomhead did everything first and Slipknot completely ripped them off, Slipknot still has sold more CDs and all the rest of it because Mushroomhead suck. Mudvayne used to have masks or whatever, you don't hear them complaining. You know why? Coz their Music was actually decent back in the day too and they sold CDs and didn't have to point the finger etc. I'm still yet to even know a Mushroomhead song that's actually been half decent. Meh, my opinion anyway.
SKINNY PUPPY: I don't really think the logo looks THAT similar. It's slightly similar but really, it's just a logo, music is completely different. I think if they did any kind of 'S' on it's own it was always going to look similar and SP just did it first, but really, I doubt it was intentional. SP = good band though.

I do not like Slipknot however I am not here to bash the band and I am not overly concerned like some people about what others listen to,Labeling a person by what they listen to with out even knowing them is rather pointless and stupid,As for people whining about Mushroomhead fans being fat mall goth kids that is funny they say the same thing about Slipknot fans,In which I don't believe either of the two are ,For crying out loud it is only music,I wonder if any of you little shit talkers have at least one ounce of decency or a life.
I believe my cousin is going to love this album when it comes out he is going nuts ever since he heard about the news of Slipknot's new album,As for me well.....Like I said I don't like this band so I am not going to buy this album or listen to it ,My metal preferences are much heavier and brutal than this band ,But if you like Slipknot and love all of their work then good I am glad that you have something that has some part of your life that you can enjoy.

I'm usually the first one to be onboard for bashing this band, but that clip was actually half decent, surprizing. The vocalist sounded more like a Phil Alselmo copycat than before (which is not really a good thing but it is an upgrade) and the riffing didnt sound nu metal to me. The drums also didnt sound nu metal-ish to me, I heard double bass and some blasting in there. Then they also had a half decent solo pop up on the end.
I certainly wouldn't even consider getting the album do to all their past lameness, but I have to admit that did sound better than anything they've put out before.
Maybe they're trying to hop in with the Deathcore guys lol.

I'll admit I liked the first two Slipknot albums. Not that first out of print almost mythical one from Lincoln, never herd it. The first two roadrunner releases. However the 3rd one was one of the biggest disapointments in metal history. My two cents...like a piss in the ocean, it really dosen't matter....
