Would-Be Frontmen Campaign For VELVET REVOLVER Job
- June 19, 2008
|
|
The Pulse of Radio reports that VELVET REVOLVER's search for a new lead singer to replace Scott Weiland has led several potential replacements to actively campaign for the job through web sites such as YouTube, according to MTV.com. A couple of these would-be stars even claim that they've got the inside track for the job, although none of them have apparently been officially contacted by anyone in the VELVET REVOLVER camp. One of the biggest self-promoters is a singer named Brian Phyll Miller, whose online video audition (view clip below) features him singing VELVET REVOLVER's "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces", as well as AC/DC's "Whole Lotta Rosie". Miller also discusses his love for "vodka, cigarettes and Jack (Daniels)," apparently unaware that VELVET REVOLVER is now a sober band. A lot of support for Miller has been generated online, although it is difficult to verify whether it's real or has been created by the singer himself. Other hopefuls include Axl Rose sound-alike Dale Toth ( video) and Weiland sound-alike Sam Serinsky (view clip below), who says on his YouTube page that the band "may have someone already, but I have to contact the VR camp again next week." VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum told The Pulse of Radio last month that the band was listening to auditions sent in through email. Sorum also recently said that the band had rejected offers to find a new singer through a new edition of the "Rock Star" reality show. A recent item at Idolator.com suggested that the group may be in talks with an unnamed Australian singer to replace Weiland, while another rumor speculated that LINKIN PARK's Chester Bennington was up for the gig. Brian Phyll Miller: Sam Serinsky:

Weiland was a shitty, annoying frontman. I knew I could not enjoy VR the second I heard his voice. It wouldn't really matter who they got to replace scott, anything is an improvement. Hell, they'd be more enjoyable as an instrumental. HAH.

If VR doesn't land a big name, marketable name then there's no point in continuing the band. VR is all about big money, world tours, etc. Some doofus from Youtube is not going to put asses in the seats. I've been campaigning for Philip Anselmo because Anselmo has the passion, the soul and the brand name value, plus he needs the cash for drugs just like Slash & Co. It's a beautiful relationship, you see!

Scott Weiland is amazing. One of the best going today. All you death metal people, dunno about talent. VR were a great band with 2 great cds. Without Weiland, they need a big name. A proven guy or else its gonna be tough.

Of the 3, Toth was the best, but that's not saying much. He sounds nothing like Axl. I hope the boys in VR have a lot of better options. And what's with Miller the dumbass? VR = SOBER. Jack + Slash = death!! Vodka + Duff = exploded pancreas, oh wait, THAT ALREADY HAPPENED! WTF man!! I'm cool cause I drink blah blah blah. Get a life you fuckin' poser!

Should be proven enough so they know he can handle touring, recording, etc.
Shouldn't be too big a name (like Weiland)
Shouldn't be too 80's (like Bach)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dave Wyndorf from MONSTER MAGNET.
Do it! He's a good better singer than Weiland, can't be any worse a junkie, and has the perfect sleazy image and style for VR.

Bullshit! For one; They are all clean and sober in VR now. Two; Slash managed to get Snakepit going with virtually unknown singers. Three; The band needs someone who has a great personality for a frontman, someone who isnt addicted to anything (therefore Anselmo is out), and someone with nowhere near as much baggage as Scott had. In other words.. they will ind who they think is right for the band.. leave them to it, we will get a new singer announced eventually for fucks sake.

This has to be a joke,Brian phyll miller is just a bad karoke singer with zero personality whilst sam serinsky is some sort of Axl Rose tribute. Whilst I agree jIzzy Pearl is a fantstic singer/frontman I think he has exhausted his avenues as a frontman with fronting LA Guns/Ratt and Adlers Appetite he now comes across as a hired hand, stick with Love/Hate or solo. Perry Farrell should just get back with Janes Addiction or satelite party/porno for pyros the guys a genious.

dismiss the speakerphone, david bowie anorexia, go-go dancing, late axl rose side-stepping, ss army hat...
what made scott weiland so adapt?
the man does not have impeccable range; yet "he knows how to use his voice, and what to do with his limited range". thus, not only makes him a diverse singer, also ups the ante when it comes to arrangements, and most significantly, gifted lyricist who can touch deeper elements with a simple language.
enter bas...the man has definitive heavy metal voice right up there ronny james dio...the man has such a voice and stage presence that effortlessly upstages any given musician behind him...just like dio upstaged iommi, and blackmore...
corabi, are you kidding me? definitely talented yet, another sammy hagar -like musicianship only this time offered by sunset boulevard...
the missing point here is those so-called candidates are one-dimensional, would serve nothing to velvet revolver musically but do their own bidding.
velvet revolver is a blues/rock/punk rock band. even perry farrell would come short. as for chester bennington, very likely (for guys who dub him as nu-metal, check what does with "whole lotta love" at camp freddy show), but again not really marketable for vr, considering vr would fall under the shadow of linkin park.

Hi,
I am writing this in support of an article written by Idolator involving the unnamed australian singer, as I have the following information from a friend of mine working for Rock 101 radio station. I also saw the guy sing at an open air concert and he caught some attention there.
From what I heard the guy's name is Tim and he lives in Oregon, he had apparently swarmed VR members, Duff's RAW Power team, and even Duff's new band Loaded and their respective agents with letters and Emails selling himself to them and had sent his audition tunes to them after receiving responses.
It was said he didn't want to conform to the whole commercialization of making scripted myspace video's, youtube performances etc to get the attention of the band, and chose the old fashion job/audition approach of putting pen to paper, or in his case fingers to keyboard! As he stated, "if I can't get their attention from reading something from my heart, how can I expect them to take me seriously, because everything I put into those letters & Emails shows my passion and perseverance"
That's about as much as I can tell you, but I can assure you that the possibility of this Australian guy fronting the band is as real as Brian & Sam on youtube! Being an unknown and Australian is surely unique and a great twist to VR.
