THE PANIC CHANNEL Frontman: 'I Am Not Singing For VELVET REVOLVER' - June 24, 2008
Former MTV VJ and THE PANIC CHANNEL frontman Steve Isaacs has denied that he has been jamming with the remaining members of VELVET REVOLVER as the frontrunner to fill the group's vacant singer slot following the recent departure of Scott Weiland.

During a brand new interview with MusicRadar.com, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum revealed that the band "tried out a couple of guys," adding, "We have a guy right now that we're still...sort of checking it out, feeling it out, letting him work with us. I'd rather not (say who it is) — just because I don't want it to get out that he might be the guy. I mean, we like him, he's awesome."

After Internet speculation started gaining strength that he may be the "guy" Sorum is talking about, Isaacs posted the following message on his official blog:

"I got an odd email congratulating me about singing for the VELVET REVOLVER guys, which took me by surprise 'cause, well… I'm not. Apparently this interview with VR's Matt Sorum (who I am lucky enough to play with when CAMP FREDDY comes to town) led the interviewer to suspect that the mystery singer Matt was referring to was me. It's not."

Isaacs appeared as a VJ on MTV for a little under two years, from 1991 to 1993. Following that, he starred in a touring version of THE WHO's "Tommy" and formed a band called SKYCYCLE in 1995.

He joined THE PANIC CHANNEL, featuring three former members of JANE'S ADDICTION, in 2006, but the band was dropped by its label after releasing its debut album, "(ONe)".

Weiland was dismissed in early April, with the band citing erratic behavior as the reason. He is now back with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.

...but what about BILLY IDOL to front VR?

while it sounds like they're leaning towards an unknown or near-unknown, i think the fact that nearly everyone in the band had high profile histories is what helped in VR's initial popularity... bring in an unknown and i think you have slash's snakepit again... which didn't necessarily put out bad music, but didn't get that much attention either...

it was actually a lot better than i'd expected it to be. navarro's tone is killer on that cd. and hey he even has a shirt on in the video, that's a plus too. issacs' voice kinda reminds me a bit of joe grah's, who used to front a fantastic band from texas called jibe and can sing his ass off. unfortunately he left his great band of 10 years to join loser with john 5 who stayed around all of 30 seconds. oops. ehh i think i need some coffee, i'm rambling.

I actually liked Panic Channel's album quite a bit. Unfortunately the label chose a poor leading single and didn't promote them at all. I had tickets to see them in Atlanta, but the show was cancelled. I actually got an email from Steve Issacs personally saying it was because the manager got overzealous with the booking and they couldn't make the date, but a friend who works the venue said they cancelled the show because they sold only 40 tickets.

I would only be down with that if we took his guitarist with him...Steve Stevens is a f@#$ing master and we can get rid of Dave "the filler" Kushner I know they need a second guitarist but i dont know who that guy is serving up but he must be good at it cause hes in one hell of a band without one hell of a resume

...but John Corabi is the man for the job

That said, the Billy Idol/Steve Stevens idea is kinda fun. Especially if Steve still does those cute little pirouettes, coat-tails flying in the wind machine...

I was so horrified by the Panic Channel album that I dumped it. Even worse than the Deconstruction album. A shame as Navarro's Trust No One was very good. Here's hoping for another Jane's reunion... (although Perry's Satellite Party album was fantastic and deserved to sell more than the 12 copies that it in fact shifted)

...along with Billy would be a definite coup! he's definitely a master of the guitar, no doubt, and he would add a new element to the band altogether...

Kushner backed into his role simply by being a holdover from Duff's Loaded... they needed a 2nd guitar and Duff already had a guy... my guess is if Izzy had been willing to join up, Kushner would not have been part of VR...

the panic channel album wasn't a half bad cd, it just got lost in the shuffle with many other similar bands... next to no promotion will lead to that, no doubt...

Even though I do't care much about VR, THAT would make me take a second look.

Actually, I heard a rumor that Sebastian Bach would be fronting for VR.

I doubt it's true since he has his own projects and such going on, but I think he'd be a great choice.

Ive read a lot of threads about potential new singers for velvet revolver...but i think there is one clear front runner.
Johnny Strong of Operator would be totally well suited to VR's sound and they could still (just about) retain their supergroup status.
It cant be a unknown thats for sure.
Also a lot of people are saying Sebastian Bach, and yeah Angel Down was ok but every time I read his comments about Axl and Chinese Democracy I just wanna kick him in the nuts!! Drives me crazy, blatently obsessed with Axl would not fit in to VR.
