METALLICA: New Album Release Date Revealed? - June 26, 2008
According to Finland's Record Shop X, the Finnish release date for the new METALLICA album, "Death Magnetic", is Wednesday, September 17. Although no official release date has yet been announced, it is likely that the CD will be issued in the U.S. on September 16, with most of continental Europe receiving the album on Monday, September 15 (except Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where fans will presumably be able to purchase the CD on Friday, September 12).

METALLICA's ninth studio effort, "Death Magnetic" will contain either 10 or 11 tracks. No song titles have been confirmed, although "My Apocalypse" was cited as one by Rolling Stone magazine. The band did not play any new songs at the recent Bonnaroo festival, although a selected group of U.S. and U.K. journalists have had a chance to preview six tunes from the upcoming release.

"Death Magnetic" was produced by METALLICA and Rick Rubin, and marks the recording debut of bassist Robert Trujillo, who joined the lineup in 2003 shortly after the last METALLICA album, "St. Anger", was completed.

am certainly no Metallica basher and i try to defend them as much as possible because despite all the changes in style of their music the quality of it was still very high. people dont like load and reload for it not being metal enough or whatever but it was still good MUSIC. now im not a huge fan of st. anger. but i still didnt find it shit piss terrible like pretty much everyone else. so with that said....Death Magnetic?

there better be some amazing music on this thing to prevent me from laughing at the album title being Death Magnetic.

and with that said...i still want and cant wait to hear this...even though im priming myself for a disappointment.

I agree with ultimatejerkoff (lol great name btw), load and reload wouldve been popular most likely if they were written by another band. The band that produced St. Anger would've never have even gotten signed. I'm not saying I don't like St. Anger, because I actually do enjoy some parts of it, and there are songs that are really relatable to. To me, you just can't beat Ride-Justice and that is really the reason I am a Metallica fan at all. But I can also appreciate some of the other stuff they have done. I love Garage days, I love S&M, I love certain tracks off load, reload, and St. Anger, and I'm sure I'll love the new tracks on Death Magnetic. To me it looks like it's going to sound like Justice combined with the feel of load and maybe a bit of St. Anger. Actually now that I think about it, its probably going to sound a lot like some of the stuff off of Garage Days. Like "Mercyful Fate" or something in that realm.

yeah i know some people had a supe adverse reaction to st. anger and there are a lot of understandable reasons for it. i still kind of think had they cut all those songs in half and not repeated themselves 60 times in one song then it might have been a decent album but the recording quality, james voice, Lars in general, the guitar tone, the lack of even one damn solo and their bizarre new take at song writing all kind of amounted to one heap of dung album...but i keep saying if i saw a band open for another band with the material of st.anger id be like "hey there is some potential" why Metallica would choose to do so many bizarre things on one cd is beyond me but i still thought it had some decent things in there as well...they just werent properly devloped...or the good parts were repressed...either way i just hope they remove their heads from their asses and do what is god damned NATURAL to them and their song writing...why theyd force themselves to do something so retarded is just retarded i just hope they got it out of their system and are ready to put out something good again be it in the vein of reload or and justice it doesnt matter to me as long as its god damned good.

The only reason St. Anger sucked is because people keep expecting a new AJFA or Master of Puppets, the songs arent that bad the style was a wild departure from Metallica of old and for them it just doesnt work.. had another band come out and done St. Anger it may have been a lot more popular.. its hard to say. Some Kind of Monster DVD gives me a lot more respect for the album after you see how divided all the guys actually were..

because THAT's what they were great at. When they departed from that, that's when things went downhill. They started writing pop albums and started following trends.

Black album - shorter, simpler songs produced by Bob Cock who also produced Motley Crue and Bon Jovi. Also has 12 songs instead of the 8 or 9 songs per album.

Load/Reload - Alternica nuff said. 27 songs combined! All of them weak. Just following the alternative trend. Just watch the video for Until it Sleeps.

St. Anger - Nu Metal trend - by this point, I had already lost interest. To me, they were done in 96 when Load came out. This album sucks and I don't not need to see a documentary that explains why it sucks.

This new album - The only interesting thing is that Rubin is producing and that HE told them that they should write songs that are like Master and Black album. That would be a good combination but what bothers me is that Metallica had to be TOLD by a producer what kind of album to write. Just like everything since the Black album. That explains all the shows they did when they played all the songs from Masters. I don't think they really wanted to do that.

The only way this new album will be a new AJFA or Master of Puppets is if the cd starts with a cool acoustic or epic intro about a minute long before the songs speeds up to 180 BPM and kicks ass. Then the second track called "Death Magnetic" plays for about 8 to 10 minuted. Then a couple of mid tempo songs and a "ballad" type song, a fast song, an instrumental and then a really fast closer. If the album does this, then it might have a chance.

Anyway, I don't care because they jumped the shark years ago.

Yea, Metallica back in the 80's said something like "We never will be influenced by this and that shit.... by the what style is in vogue..." It's all bullshit. "LOAD and RELOAD... " What lost a lot of fans was that everyone expected (wanted) these fuckers to come out with a ripping album and they let us down. It was a handjob and her arm got tired.... It was a really dead period for American rock. Then they beat us with "S & M." "St. Anger" is what we felt "Where are the fucking guitar solos?... Oh I forgot the thing that's in (90's- early 2000's) is to NOT play solos. And... how cool was that aluminun pot drum sound? If you drink one of those 5-liter metal beer kegs, turn it upside down and hit it and see if you don't get the same sound" Metallica WERE great in the 80's.... but how many years ago was that? Don't psych yourself for this next album... then you won't want to hang yourself in the doorway from disappointment. Metallica are down to making an album about once a decade anyway. Give your allegiance to some of the other bands out there.

just want to add that the ones that are most anti-metallica are the same dumbass kids that got kicked off napster and had their 'pron-4eva' and 'i_like_big_cocks' user-names banned and had to make new ones to log back on. But when metallica comes on tour they ask their mom for $40 for tickets, bust out their black k-mart limp bizkit t-shirts, get their friends mom to drive them to the concert and sing along to the one song they know 'enter sandman' leave saying 'that was the best concert EVER!' and stand around waiting for their mom to pick them up.

A TRUE metal / metallica fan will ALWAYS dig their first 5-6 albums (if you count garage days) and KNOW that Metallica would be up on a Metal Mt. Rushmore with Sabbath, Zeppelin & others. I for one won't lie and admit that their last 3 albums had some good songs but were dissapointing, however EVERY band has a few better albums and some not as good - Metallica's best albums have been the GREATEST METAL ALBUMS EVER - so they deserve the slack and I certainly give them that!

because metallica is "real" metal compared to korn, limp bizkit, disturbed, etc. Those bands all suck of course. But like it or not, they are Metallica's peers since those are the bands they invite out on tour.

also, the clips sound nothing like anything off Justice or anything else in the 80's.

I think it is quite unintelligent and naive to call Metallica sellouts, sheep or trend followers.

St Anger was pretty sub par for a metallica album, although I liked it more than reload. The production value, and the copy/pasting of song sections gave it an amateur flavour. It really is an album that shows potential but really was released as a beta version :P

It is a given that I will like the album but I am looking forward to certain aspects like Robs bass guitar work.

They started with an awesome thrash-metal album being Kill 'em All in 83, then went on to 3 brilliant metal albums, RTL, MOP, AJFA. In 91 they released the black album. No joker in here can argue the success this album brought them. No joker in here can tell me the material on that album, or the production was crap. Then came the loads towards the late 90s. I'm a firm believer that both those 2 albums are among the best 'rock' albums going around. Garage Inc. & S&M never really done a lot for me, I guess it's because the first wasnt their original stuff, and the second I've heard before (without the orchestra) ST Anger in 03 was what they wanted to do at the time. It's easy to say it's not their most polished work, but if you have any idea at all about that album, you would'nt be going on about it like most of you do, your right, most of you don't get it, and knock it. I'd love to put a picture to your faces, actually speak to you in person, and laugh at your misfortune, of being just another Metallica basher bandwagon jumper.
