DISTURBED Guitarist Says He 'Confronted' THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's WEINMAN Regarding Feud

The war of words between DISTURBED and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN guitarist Ben Weinman has come to an end after DISTURBED guitarist Dan Donegan "confronted" Weinman in person at the UK's Download festival and "cleared up" the matter once and for all. The entire thing started when Australia's Beat magazine published an article on New Jersey's THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN in which Weinman said he was taken aback by what he witnessed at one of DISTURBED's soundchecks. "[They were] practicing where they were going to walk and when they were going to put their leg up on the monitor and pose," Weinman said. "That was weird for us. There are times [during live gigs] where I don't even know where I am." Weinman's comment sparked a response from Dan Donegan, who told MTV News' "Metal File" in a May 16 interview, "When we do a bigger production, there may be certain lighting cues for certain highlights of the show, but I wouldn’t call it 'posing.' [It's] just a cue for our lighting guy, so he can add more drama to the set. If [ DILLINGER] sold some records, and were at the level we’re at, maybe they'd see that, for bands like KISS and METALLICA, there are certain highlight points during a set that you want to focus on. If I'm going to go over to one spot and do a guitar solo, my lighting guy may need to know that, so he can focus in on that. If that's posing, then so be it. We have millions of fans, and we find ways to connect with them. We utilize theatrics and pyro, so we have to rehearse where the pyro is going to go off, because we don't want to have a James Hetfield moment and get caught in the flame. But that's something DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN would know nothing about, because they don't play arenas — they play clubs." A June 2 post on the THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN MySpace page added fuel to the fire when it referred to Donegan as "the guitar player Dom Deluise or whatever his name is with the little-peen complex from that band DISBURBIA or whatever they're called" and proceeded to slam the guitarist for being a "douche bag" who "thinks that we care about them." It added, "What's that I hear? The sound of your band still sucking?" Fed up with the media feeding frenzy, Weinman agreed to write a guest blog for Headbanger's Blog to explain how the whole fiasco is really much ado about nothing. In an interview with Norway's "Tinitus" radio show conducted at this year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods on June 16 in London, Donegan and DISTURBED frontman David Draiman were asked if this "silly feud" between them and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN had finally ended. "Oh, absolutely," Draiman replied. "In fact, there wasn't really a feud. I mean, Danny walked to them and confronted them…" Donegan added, "Whatever. A few things were said, and we had the opportunity at Download [festival, held June 13-15, 2008 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, UK], I'd seen the guy [ Weinman] and confronted him on it and we cleared it up. I just asked him, personally, just one-on-one, if there is a problem." Draiman continued: "We wish them whatever luck and success they may have. They just need to learn that, look, you know [chuckles], be careful what you say, because there are guys like Danny who'll walk up to you, so…"

I agree with Jack. El Perro is a complete moron that is evident. I bet if you took Greg Puciato and put him against the whole disturbed band at once he would kick there ass hands down. Anybody that collaborates with Mike Patton is bad ass. Anyone who had Chris Pennie as a drummer is bad ass. Calculating Infinity and Irony is a Dead Scene are some of the best albums ever. Ten times better then anything disturbed has or ever will do.

Disturbed sells records to 20 something jock assholes that drive pick up trucks and wear mesh shorts. They also have their share of 30 something former mullets who think they're "bad-ass" What Disturbed sounds like is watered down wannabe metal for the hardrock crowd who wanna prove they're hella tuff.
DEP is for nerdy little puke kids who wear tight pants and have short haircuts who somehow also think Norma Jean is "grind". The white belt set. These guys are probably best described as worshipping the cock of Human Remains, Discordance Axis, and other genuinely revolutionary bands.
So in short, both bands totally suck balls. And until I see any of them sizing up Randy Couture or someone from the UFC, NONE OF THEM are particularly "badass" dudes.

All of disturbed's discography is identicle. all the songs are structured the same. fuckin boring man, how can u listen to it. same with Ac/dc. w/e, i guess u hafta ''respect'' a band that has sold millions of records, but overal, are u jsut supporting something terrible and force fed. im fucken tired of the birds calls Draiman does anyways, its not like its any better than Zakk's WAH WAH.

I personally think it'd be sweet-ass if A.) Disturbed (and all of the nu-metal bands for that matter) went and "confronted" some serious black metal guys, got fucked up, and subsequently learned to keep their mouths shut, and if B.) Dillinger made good music again. I feel like Nu-Metal is like that guy you work with who you want to like cos hes kind of funny, but you can't cos all he does is get drunk and try to fight anyone.

Yeah, DEP is a popular mathcore band, but honestly, how popular is mathcore in the scheme of things?
I like Disturbed. I think they make good melodic metal, and their last album was amazing. That being said, DEP is a very talented band, but they are more or less unknown to the wider audience. I consider the best musicians of all genres to be those who can sell and perform to everyone. In that case, it clearly goes to Disturbed. DEP could do that to if they slowed down a bit.
But still, both great bands, and hopefully this feud is over.

I don't like Disturbed in the least, but I give 'em props for at least going up to DEP and asking what the problem is instead of gay back-and-forth internet drama.
DEP probably thought this was going to be an easy way to drum up some free press, since everyone, including their label, stopped giving a shit after their newest album tanked and they pretty much alienated whatever was left of their fanbase.
Betcha Relapse is regretting they got strongarmed into upping DEP's contract prior to "Miss Machine", and even moreso, that they actually wasted more money releasing that latest piece of turd.
Disturbed should have said "We may be posing, but at least our heads aren't stuck up Mike Patton's ass."

That as much as I like Disturbed depite all the haters wingeing that they suck balls etc.. I wouldnt call them melodic, I would call them powerful and id also say that while Draimans lyrics are full of angst, they are also real.. A lot of bands dont write 'real' anymore they write what sells, or what has shock value... for the most part Disturbed has hit the nail on the head... they write lyrics which people can take to heart but which also sell their records.

with the exception of king crimson, who I love dearly, there is nothing special about any of those bands. LTE, Rush, and especially the god awful Dream Theater make music so that the general population can say "wowwww, he sure is good at playing guitar." There is nothing progressive about the lame noodling that happens on a dream theater track, or any of that "trying out a new guitar at guitar center and making sure everyone knows I fuckin' shred!" garbage. Like them or not DEP is pushing the envelope incorporating the aspects of progressive music that are actually progressive into an interesting, different sound.

What is with all the damn sub-genre's of metal? Do any of you even know what they are? It's damned ridiculous. And, I don't know of any new band anymore that fits into any of these sub-genre's 100%. I don't know anything about this band the Dillinger Escape Plan. Perhaps I have yet to be enlightened. Please, do so. Since I don't know anything about them, I'm not gonna bash them. In all honesty, I don't see that what they had to say about Disturbed was all that bad. But, apparently, it didn't lay right with Disturbed. I am a Disturbed fan. That doesn't mean that I think everything they do is right or that I take what they say as gospel.
Anyway, back to my point. What's the first metal group you all heard? Ozzy? Black Sabbath? Maybe it was Judas Priest. My point? They all have a melodic quality. So, why is it that every agruement I hear all Disturbed haters make is that they are "fake metal"? Makes me wonder what your definition of metal is.

Well The problem with Disturbed is that what they play make then fall into a category called "Nu-Metal" or false metal. The problem is The three Chord songs, no solos, guitar tunning, and simplysity of there songs I am not going to lie they've been playing solos lately. I am not going to bash then, but the fact that they are big is because they appeal to mainstream standars I saw then live yesterday with Shitnot and none of then made it for me. By the way the only good stuff on that mayhem fest were Mastodon, Machine Head, Black Tide(while not so original great 80's heavy metal, and Airbone. Also, I just wanted to add that there is a lot of melodies on DEP listen to "Ire Works" or the " Miss Machine" albums ; also lots of great melodies in the vocals, Jazz influence passages and this guys put the crayzies live show ever for a band of there technicality. Also success doesn't always mean talent. Just a personal opinion u guys can like whatever u want but you can't deny the talent of DEP.

I'm not trying to deny the talent of anyone. What appeals to you may not appeal to me. And that's fine. I don't want to push my type of music on anyone. Sort of like I don't want anyone to push thier type of mysic on me. I'll agree with you that D.E.P. does some great work on the instrumental end of the deal. My problem with that is that I quite literally get off on good lyrical content. They just don't have it for me. Disturbed's instrumental doesn't have it for you and D.E.P.'s lyrics don't have it for me.Sort of like, I think that David Draiman is about the sexiest lead vocalist I've ever seen. You may think that about Greg Puciato. And that's fine. I'm not going to bash D.E.P. for that. I just don't understand why everyone on this site tends to be so closed minded. We all like rock music, be it "Nu-Metal" or "mathcore". And all rock music has one thing in common. It promotes open mindedness. When did all these genre's of rock and metal become a war between the fans? Oh, yes, and one more thing. This entire deal is over Disturbed " practicing poses" for a live performance. It all started over a little damage control. And D.E.P. does such things as fire breathing while on stage. That's very entertaining. Think they do any damage control for that? I would call them either liars or dumb if they didn't.
