hello it's me again, i was wondering if you could help me out with another question i have about being a music producer, after you go to school for this do record companies find you and hire you, as well as bands, i'm wondering if it would be logical to go to school for this or not, considering people just use audio editing software and produce their own stuff alot of times, what do you think?

Amy, how come everything except Slipknot and Mudvayne that Clown puts his name on turns to shit? Mudvayne got popular but 40 Below Summer didn't do a lot of business and are now broken up, Downthesun are no more, Gizmachi, who basically sounded like Downthesun went belly-up as far as I know, no one seemed to care about To My Suprise and I can't see his new band, Retarded Rabbit Babies or something like that, doing anything either. Does this mean that outside of Slipknot, Clown is just a pretentious hack with a big mouth?

Tell him to play shows, make friends with local talent, put ads in the local papers to find musicians to play with and hire a manager, a booking agent and a publicist to help get a record label to notice. Good luck!

I know nothing. I think that all original members are back. I'll check with my good buddy Tom who plays guitar. But I am not sure they even have a label.

I think that "Soul Creek" by Black Stone Cherry is a great southern rawk song that makes me want to sip iced homemade tea or lemonade on the back porch below the Mason-Dixon line.

wow.... ok yeah this is like my third question in like three days or whatever, but i'm bored at work haha :) I am starting a record label in South Africa, to try and build on the scene here, so while we were thinking about it i started thinking about what labels do, i know this sounds like a dumb question, but i'm not entirely sure cause i know it must be a lot more than just releasing cd's and distributing them........ and also do the labels take a cut off the live shows that bands play or is that all to do with the agency's that set the shows up? Please can you help me, it will be greatly appreciated...... thanx and cheers from S.A. :)

Labels produce, manufacture, market, promote and sell records. They are a lending institution, much like a bank, for bands to get their records in stores adn to be pushed to radio, magazines, TV shows, etc. In a 360 deal, a label gets a cut of all band revenues, not just CD sales. That'd include merch, touring, tix, etc.

I was looking through my older CDs and was wondering what happened to Anyone? Their debut was great, but I never heard a second CD besides the live album. Also I was wondering if you've heard anything off the new Trivium and DragonForce albums. Both bands are amazing, but I think Trivium may be making a huge mistake by going back to more of the styles of Ascendency for Shogun. The Crusade was amazing and about 100 times better than Ascendency. I appreciate you volunteering to do this column and informing some intelligent and many retarded people of the world. I don't know how you put up with the retards.

Anyone... I worked that record. It didn't go anywhere. I dunno what happened to them. I think they b/u. As for T and DF, of course I have heard both records. I have them both in my handbag. It's my job to have heard them. I think Trivium isn't going back to the stylings of "Ascendancy" by incorporating screaming again. They are going according to the stylings of TRIVIUM and of "Shogun." They are not "trying" to do anything but make music. Thank you for your understanding. I know that I am being canonized upon my crossing over to the next spirit plane.

I LOVE IT. I think "Psychosocial" is the best melodic metal song since "Walk" by Pantera. I can't get enuff of that song. You know you can't deny that groove and the drums and CT's vocal acrobatics. So effing good. I also love the song "Butcher's Hook" and "Gematria." And "Gehenna." I told CT he is a genius! And you all should agree. I have never sat and had any java with them, simply b/c I don't drink the stuff. But yes, I have spent tons of time with Slipknot. I work for them. I have had to cover their interviews, take them to visit radio stations and gone to in stores with them. I have had to call them and talk to them. Don't you wish you were me? That's what happens when you work for a band. You talk to them! Make sure you buy the album on 8/26!! It's SOOOO GOOD!

Summer vacation - what the FUCK is that? I wish I was still in high skewl and HAD summer vacations. Me and the cutest and sweetest dude I know were pontificating about this the other day. We don't have summer vacations anymore. Sure, it gets hot but we still have to go to work. It's no diff than spring, winter or fall. We don't get that time off and we get VERY JEAL when we see kids having those 3 months off, so my advice is ENJOY it WHILE YOU CAN!!! B/c when you get old and get a job, you don't have vacation anymore and you miss it like a limb severed in a farm equipment accident. To answer your Q, we have a Slipknot and Dragonforce album coming out on the same day. That means I am working 7 to 7 every day and that leaves little time for questions. I just saw Slipknot at the first show on the Rockstar Mayhem fest, and they were fucking awesome! But it seems that Sid, doing his usual crazy stuff, jumped off the back riser portion of the stage and ended walking away with crutches, and had to be helped back up behind his turntables. Even though this happened just last night, I was wondering to what extent did he injure himself?

Nothing can deter our man Sid or ANYONE in Slipknot from bringing "All Hope Is Gone" to the fans. He is playing in a wheelchair and continuing on the tour despite injuring his heels. Talk about dedication.

I think that no one else can see the preservation of the martyr in me. I also think that when you are coordinating an MTV interview and Clown walks into the dressing room wearing his frightening mask, it's intimidating and scary up close. I love it. They look great, as usual.
