hey amy, im a solo artist with a independantly made album, i was wondering what are the chances a record label like roadrunner to listen to my work, with all the demos and crap they get will they have time to listen? I was thinking of putting it all on cd then mailing it to them. :) its not like they will just sign me right ???

Check your career center. They will tell you how to make the pitch call to get an internship. You should have a clear idea of what dept you would like to intern in!

hey amy..realy dig reading your sarcasm..im from south africa and going to uk 4 a year..ive searched the net lyk a hamster on steroids and i cant get tour dates for slipknot if they are performing in the uk next year?please help me out here..the music scene in south africa is far behind what the usa and uk is..think the biggest name weve had has been metallica and korn and the coke fest..on another note i must that slipknot are the only motherfuckers with a brain..new album is amazing..the change from "execute" to Gematria is insane..coreys lyrical awesomness..love it that clown and chris have done alot more experimenting and have now using cymbols..anyway excuse the long message wanted to put as much as i can in..go well..

Opeth is and always will be one of my fave bands, but Ghost Reveries is a far superior record in my eyes, to Watershed. That's MY opinion and does not change my opinion on the band. If we were a truly dependent label, that would mean we are not independent. EVERY LABEL has distro through a bigger label. ALL OF THEM! I love Nuclear Blast. Great label. Hello, I am music student taking a music industry class and Im doing a project on "The heavy metal guitarist", and I am interested in learning more about contracts (specific to the genre) and other "business related" issues. Any insight as to where I could learn more information about those sorts of things? Also, if I am trying to interview actual guitar players in national acts, what is the best avenue to take in order to actually get an inquiry for that sort of thing noticed/adressed and not just written off as some kind of fan boy shit? ...Figured I'd give asking you a shot...

You have to contact publicists at record labels, although many musicians only conduct interviews with print magazines. Some will do "projects" such as this, but a lot will decline. In terms of contracts, I would say if you really want to learn, do some time interning in the legal department of a record label.

I am not spending 5 hours thinking about this, so if this list is different than something I said, like, a year ago, relax. I'm busy! When I debate with a group of guys on metal music, it seems as though NONE of them take me seriously. I've been told time and time again that I am 'too pretty for metal.' I'm not a prissy looking girl, but am aware I don't look like I'd prefer Slipknot to Paramore. I am all about the sound and emotion of the music, but not the look most people tie too it. My question is, how do I get these type-casting fucks to listen to what I have to say? I think Cynic has a new album coming out through Season of Mist or some arm of that company. Prog/death is a hard sell and clearly for a niche audience. I mean, Opeth can be classified as prog death on some levels.

If you are in college, go to your career planning and placement center or services. They will tell you how to go about getting internships with professional companies. Our requirements are college credit and a good attitude.
