Great to see Obituary back in action! Too bad they're not on an
Ozzfest line-up-that'd be something! Why did (guitarist) Allen West shave his head?
He looked great with the long hair (made him look "young!"). In my opinion,
with the exception of ex-Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno and Judas Priest's Rob
Halford, short hair, let alone a bald head, just isn't "metal."

Why did Allen West shave his head? Unless he is going bald as Halford was (to which I do not know the answer), great question. You can look forever 22 with a full head of hair. Personal opinion, but I myself do not dig on bald rockers. Band members are to be larger than life. Full heads hair, and long. WHAT'S WRONG WITH PEOPLE???

That being said, we're excited for the new Obituary, too. And believe me, when I speak with anyone in the band next, I WILL bring up Allen West's hair situation.

Since your argument is so succinct and powerful... OK!

Pride? - Dog gone, we sure do have some rock stars who think they're just the bees knees.
Greed? - Mother of Pearl! Every one of them's trying to become a gosh darned millionaire.
Sloth? - Have you ever seen a tour bus the morning after a sold out show? Goodness gracious!
Anger? - OH MY! just listen to the music for five minutes if you can! (No don't it's sinful).
Envy? - Sheesh! If you knew how jealous these silly gooses can be of each other's sales numbers, chart positions, royalty deals, and what have you!
Lust? - Four words for you "Nickelback - Figured You Out". Heavens to Betsy!
Gluttony? - Have you ever seen Dino Cazares?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will demand all of our artists cease and desist with the glorification of sin and rest assured, non-compliance will not be tolerated. We are also going to find out exactly what Stryper is up to these days.

Now, please STOP monitoring Roadrunner and go harrass Century Media or Sanctuary.

Hello Good Sirs,

It has come to my attention that your label is the home for the
Canadian band "Nickelback". Your label is the home for many other good
bands, but then there is a blemish. Nickelback. Words cannot express my
somewhat justified hate and malice towards Nickelback.

First off, I'll say that Nickelback wasn't /that/ terrible upon
their first release. I didn't hate it. Although then, the Long Road came
out, and I have come to be greatly annoyed by them. First off, Chad
Kroeger has a ugly voice. And face. He sounds like a pedophile on
"Figured You Out". I don't want to go on that any further.

On other songs, it seems Nickelback sounds very similiar to bands
like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Coincidence? I think not. If they
are going to copy them, they could at least do a good job of it. Layne
Staley must be rolling and his grave.

In closing, I'll add that they have commited serious crimes of
assault and battery upon my ears. I now flee from any area playing their
music and quickly jump for the remote when they come on the radio.

I'm not sure that you actually care about this at all, but maybe the
band does. Dunno. I couldn't find a email the band link on the site, so
I came to Roadrunner. I shall wait for your reponse. (If any)

metal bands?

Hello Sir,

You must really dislike Nickelback if you both hate AND malign them. It seems you are redundantly expressing your feelings at whatever degree they are justified, but on to addressing the points in your email.

The Long Road is actually NB's 4th album and 5 million other people in the world are apparently not as annoyed by it as you are. As for the appeal of Chad's voice (and face) we will simply say that "Figured You Out" is closely based on a true story. We don't want to go on that any further.

If you can find the modern band whose songs are not derivative of previous generations of music, you should have a very successful career in A&R. Your examples of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains would never have existed without the likes of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. No doubt ten years ago there we plenty of 70's rock fans who thought Soundgarden and AIC were insulting the legacy of Sabbath and Zeppelin. You sound like one of those old guys who says "These kids today don't do the rock music like they did back in my day." Borrowing from and building upon your influences is what rock music is all about.

In closing, it sounds like you have developed a suitable remedy for NB's offences to your ears - you stopped listening. If only the Pro-Censorship wackos out there would be so pragmatic! Good for you anyway.

Roadrunner is always pleased to hear from the music fans out there especially when they are complaining about and bashing on one of the most successful artists in the marketplace today. We will also pass this along to the guys in Nickelback who will undoubtedly be crushed that they will not be selling that 5,000,001st copy of the Long Road.
