How do I get noticed at signmeto??
From the outset, I have to admit - the current tools are not very sexy. It is very high on our list to create a suite of self-help products to give artists a much better way of attracting attention. Stuff like:
- vanity URLs so that when you send someone your band's direct web address at signmeto it isn't a torturously long string of gobbledegook
- a much better embeddable music player that you can re-post at places like MySpace with a corresponding message like, "Come and rate my band at signmeto!"
- integration of Facebook and Twitter APIs so that once you have established a profile, you can easily re-post your stuff to your other social networks in the hope of attracting attention
- improved internal messaging that will make it easier for bands to ping scouts and vice versa
All of this stuff is maybe 2-3 months away so we hope you will bear with us as we continue to develop solutions. For now, here are a few tips to help you get the message across:
- send emails to people with the hyperlink to your URL buried under a couple fo works (ie. like "to rate my band, CLICK HERE" where you highlight CLICK HERE and attach it to the URL.
- tweet your band's URL - the URL shortener at Twitter will easily simplify it
- use the internal comments system at signmeto to message other users
On a different note, a lot of people have also been asking about the involvement of Roadrunner's A&R staff at signmeto. They are indeed checking the site everyday, and it is now policy each week that at our regular A&R meetings, our scouts will present a couple of things they have found at signmeto to the rest of the group for consideration. This certainly doesn't mean that anything played in such a meeting from signmeto is 100% in the running to get signed....but it does mean that signmeto bands are on the radar screen and now part of our regular A&R dialogue.
As far as A&R staff ratings and comments at the actual webiste goes - we recently uncovered a bug in the admin system which is preventing our A&R staff from being able to use the staff ratings system (ie. the skulls within that particular accordian area). We are workign with our developers on this and hope to have it resolved within the next week or so.
Thanks again for all of your patience with these matters!
