Those of you who have followed my entries at this blog have seen that we have been pretty forthcoming about our issues, problems and bugs in relation to signmeto.

I am happy to say that this week our developers delivered a new build that addressed a number of lingering bugs. We are almost at the point now where we can conclude "Phase I" of the signmeto project and start addressing the many feature requests and outstainding issues that have nothing to do with bugs, but more to do with mistakes we/I made in the way the site was originally envisaged.

Before outlining all the bug fixes, I want to quickly address a problem that I know is still annoying many people: search & navigation. Apart from the problem with a few artists still not being indexed properly (which is a bug), we know that the essentially navigation and search functionality is NOT AT ALL up to scratch. So we are discussing and planning a major re-working of the system that will facilittate better access to bands and much better means of exploring the site.

This is important because again we require everyone to continue to be patient. Many have written to me saying, "I have posted my band up at signmeto but no one has listened to it/rated it...or I can't find it". Rest assured that your band will still be in the system, and once we improve the search and navigation it will be heaps easier for scouts to locate bands and give everyone a fair go. Remember: this is not a race nor is it a competition.

Anyway, with out further ado, here are the latest bug fixes with commentary from our programmer:

Known Issues

·         Item 1 - "From" field on Artist and Scout Page not working properly
After some investigation we’ve found that the empty City and State field are due to pre-existing data and an oversight in the form designs supplied to us. 

To explain, if a visitor isn’t a RR subscriber then they can signup as part of the SignMeTo site.  In this case the City and State is mandatory so they have to supply it.  However if a RR subscriber that signed up outside of the SignMeTo site then it would seem that in some cases the City and State is not required.  This is compounded by the fact that when signing up as a Scout and you are not asked for State & City if you are already a RR Subscriber. 

As a stop gap we are now displaying the subscribers country if the city and/or state are available.  As a long term fix City and State should be asked for when an RR Subscriber signs up as a Scout.WE WILL ADDRESSS THIS IN THE NEXT ROUND OF DEVELOPMENT.

·         Item 2 – No Default Image for Artists in Shitlist
This was caused by a data display error and has been resolved.

·         Item 3 – Comments on Wrong Songs
This was resolved based on the tip off that it was caused by multiple comments open on multiple browser windows / tabs.

·         Item 4 – Share Button
We’ve resolved this issue and tidied up the layout whilst doing the Shadowbox Component update (see item 9)

·         Item 5 – Song Search Issues

The following has been resolved.

o   Missing Photos
Some artists were missing photos so they were being excluded.  This has been relaxed now (ie you don’t have to have a photo). 

o   No Songs
If an artist has no songs then they will not show up in the various lists and particularly the search.  

·         Item 6 – A&R Staff Ratings
The issue that A&R scouts were not able to rate bands has now been resolved.

·         Item 7 – A&R Staff Comments in Red
This has been resolved.

·         Item 8 – Scouts with No Details
Resolved.

·         Item 9 – T&C Acceptance No Show
In IE8 there was an issue where the page was being darkened with no T&C Acceptance window.  This was related to V2.0 of the Shadowbox Component used for the windows.  This has been upgraded to Shadowbox V3.0 to resolve the issue.

·         Item 10 – Uploading 3^rd Song
For some users there was the issue of not being able to upload the 3^rd song.  This has been resolved.

·         Item 11 – Artist Song Player: Play Count
This is currently awaiting a response from site designer - should be resolved by end of next week.
