MACHINE HEAD FAN FORCED TO REMOVE T-SHIRT
Blabbermouth reports on a high-school-age Machine Head fan who was forced to remove his new band shirt at school. The closed-minded pedagogue apparently has a son serving in Iraq. Now, this person may not be one of the people who say this, but don't you often hear that soldiers in Iraq are fighting to protect Constitutional rights in the United States? Seems a little mismatched to me.

NEW SITE CHANGES!
You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.
A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!
Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).
The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?
Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.
Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!
We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. If you see any problems or want to suggest changes to the new features, please send an email to webmaster@roadrunnerrecords.com with "NEW SITE REPORT" in the subject line. If you receive an error, please be as detailed as possible, including what page you were on, what browser you are using, and copy any error message you receive into the body of the email.

ATTENTION: MACHINE HEAD FANS!
Machine Head are proud to announce the release of the special edition version of The Blackening, their Grammy-nominated masterwork. Hailed unanimously as the best metal album of 2007 by journalists, metal radio stations and fans alike, it earned a Grammy nomination for the fan-favorite track, "Aesthetics of Hate" and all the while Machine Head continue to earn "the hardest working band" title with over 19 months on the road in support of The Blackening (with 5 U.S. tours alone) and no signs of stopping soon.
The Blackening Special Edition is two disc CD/DVD set that will feature an assortment of extras, including rare bonus tracks such as covers of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", over an hour of live performance footage from With Full Force, Download and Rock in Rio festivals, three uncensored music videos for "Aesthetics of Hate," "Now I Lay Thee Down" and "Halo," a "making of" featurette on each video, "The Making of The Blackening" and expanded artwork. Here we go again! Typical Roadrunner antics. "Let's release a cd and have all the fans go out and buy it the week it is released, just so we can re-release the same cd with bonuses a few months later and try screwing the same people into buying it again. "Special Edition"? Yeah right. Special for RR cause they make twice the money on the same album title. In my opinion, these record companies that do this crap should put a download code on the original release so when they inevitably do a "super deluxe re-release tour edition", we can download the extras not on the original release for free. Roadrunner has one of the best vaults when it comes to metal music. Alot of their good releases are out of print. How about you re-release these out of print cds rather than re-releasing cds you put out 6 months ago.

They do have re releases of the old bands, you just have to know where to look. and this is an awesome re release, expesally for this CD alone cause its amazing.

3. SEAN SMITH SAID...
As Daniel is right on both aspects. I am looking forward to hearing more to this CD. Machine Head is amazing and The Blackening was one of my favorites. I definitely can't wait to hear more tracks and see the video footage.

4. DAVID SAID...
im so glad i saw this post. i totally agree with brad, im onto my 12th RR "double". ive gotten to the point where i decided i wont buy anymore RR albums until the respective digi's come out. i almost gave in and picked up the blackening on friday, i figured its been out for a year and its a good album to be missing out on, what are the chances? ha! i picked up something else instead and im glad i did.
off the top of my head:
killswitch engage as daylight dies and special edition
alive or just breathing and special edition
slipknot vol. 3 and 2005 2cd australia/new zealand tour edition
cradle of filth nymphetamine and special edition
soulfly self titled and 25th anniversary version (i still havnt got the OTHER version of this one)
either prophecy or primitive (cant remember) and re-release
still havnt got the dark ages digi
fear factory demanufacture and the 05 remastered edition bundled with remanufacture
soul of a new machine and the "re-recorded and re-released" edition bundled with fear is the mindkiller
almost got doubles of archetype
machine head ashes of empires and the "Re-issue of the special edition of..."
supercharger and the special edition
stone sour come whatever may and special edition
and one other that i cant think of

5. DANIEL WELLS SAID...
Your still buying them....I will give you props though for not DLing them like other douchebags. Besides you know the true fans want to hear these unreleased tracks and listen/watch the live footage because they may not be able to afford to go to their show, so when these are released, at least they know how the bands show is.

6. TJL SAID...
Same old RR bullshit. I'm sick of buying the original album only to get burnt down the road.

7. JEREMY ROSEN SAID...
Brad and David: You know what? Even though they sell like hotcakes, yeah, in the past I think we fucked up with re-releases and special editions. There, now that that's out of the way, here's what we've been doing lately.
Since Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos in June of 2007, we've heard the fans and we've tried wherever possible to release special editions concurrently with standard editions.
Of course, we lose there, too, because a small percentage of people also complain about that, saying that now the standard edition is really just 80% of the album. I guess we win some and we lose some. It's not fair on OUR end to produce something with a bunch of extras and a DVD or videos (usually), but sell the product wholesale to retailers at the same price. Generally all that stuff is available a la carte anyway if you're willing to buy it online.
But sometimes we can't help it. As our head of A&R pointed out to me, most of the stuff on this special edition for Machine Head didn't even exist when the album was recorded. The DVD was recorded on the tour for the album. The Maiden Cover wasn't recorded until this year.
For Stone Sour, the DVD didn't exist until the tour for the album. We can also point to the Killswitch Engage and Trivium releases, which were, to paraphrase again, bands no one knew about when the CDs came out, so what's the point of creating something with extras for fans that don't exist yet?
We're a business. We like music and we like money. But that doesn't always mean we're trying to fuck you. Most of us who work in this office are music fans, too.
September 13, 2:47 PM
8. JEREMY ROSEN SAID...
Oh, and Brad and David, I tried emailing both of you, though Brad's email doesn't exist.
September 13, 2:51 PM
9. DANIEL WELLS SAID...
Very well spoken Jeremy!
September 13, 3:35 PM
11. DAVID SAID...
on first read of brads comment, his "stab" at RR wasnt as apparent as what he was actually trying to say about the situation. on review, ill distinguish that i dont feel RR is screwing with me. its my choice in the end to buy the album at release or not, and some could argue its just as much my own stupidity as it is PR. RR australia has been very good to me and jeremys email only furthers this.
i wasnt complaining so much as trying to add weight to brads suggestion that it is a problem and that something should be done about it. jeremys comments seem to have answered my question, that RR is aware of it, sees it sort of as a problem, and measures have been taken to try to ensure it dosnt happen.
what brad was saying about download codes has some merit. why are we getting all these doubles? i get that bonus stuff isnt always available at the same time as the albums initial release, but why bundle it with the album again later down the track when it does become available and not a separate dvd?
and sometimes a band wants to thank the fans for their support by releasing bonus tracks, but if these just get bundled with another copy of the album, then these only benefit those who are new to the album and not the fans who spent their hard earned cash to support the band in the first place.
maybe this stuff is available online seperatley, but this isnt always easy for people in other countries, isolated areas, etc, to get seperatley. and legally.
this is where i agree with what brad was saying. in jeremys own words, these things sell like hotcakes, so its not like you could argue that its for rarity's sake.
if bonus stuff is available at an albums release then bundle it with the album then and when stuff becomes available further down the track release that separately. then everyone wins.

12. JIM SAID...
the blackening...most amazing album ever n the live footage should be amazing
September 15, 1:11 PM
13. RYAN SAID...
Ill agree with everyone on this board, you all have great points, I know I myself love this album enough to get the special edition of it and ill admit ive purchased other re-issues [Killswitch, Trivium, Fear Factory, Cradle, Stone Sour] and even others from other labels too and its all a matter of opinion, like say... if your old copy is in rough shape and needed a new one anyways, or even sell your origional either second hand or to a friend that likes them and use ther money to buy the special edition.
But i do agree that if you have no desire to get it again, they why not have it as a download [and even if not free then as a discount code for people who already bought it to pay the difference they would have for the re-issue] but I know ill keep buying them, and if its worth it (in which this album will damn well be) ill suck it up
September 15, 5:59 PM
14. PHILL SAID...
I must say that after many fans go out and buy the cd in the first week this does get annnoying but on the other hand, i cant wait for this.
Machine Head are one very good band and as i did for killswitch Engage i will go out and by the limited edition to not only support the band and roadrunner records but to also listen to the best music there is
keep up the good work
September 16, 5:17 AM
15. BRAD SAID...
Jeremy Rosen, as far as "special editions" go with DVDs, I could care less. I don't have time to watch them. I want a free download of the extra audio tracks on "super-deluxe tour edition special edition" re-releases. For example, on Killswitch Engage's newest release, a "special edition" followed a couple months later with a cover of Dio's Holy Diver. It is very simple. I purchased the original release the day it came out, helping with those important first week sales. A few months later, the re-release with the Dio cover song comes along and I don't have that track because I bought the original version. In cases like this, I feel that I am owed these "special edition" songs because I am one of the ones that bought the cd on the first week of release. I do not condone illegal music downloading, but I see clearly it is reasons like this explained above why it is a problem. I would never download a full album of music that I know I want, I would rather go out and purchase the cd, not only because out of respect of the artists, but also I like the album art. However, when record companies do this special edition crap, I really see nothing wrong in downloading the extras, because in my opinion, I should have got them anyway. Other than the fact I know now special editions are ineviable with every major release now, how is the lamens supposed to know that in 6-12 months the same cd with extra tracks will be coming out? Whats more, what fans of the bands would want to wait that long to get a cd they have already been waiting on for 2 or 3 years? My suggestion is a unique download code being put on all Roadrunner cd booklets so fans can download the extra songs for free on the Roadrunner website once the special edition is released. This way the people who want the DVD will buy the special edition that comes with the extra tracks anyway, and those who don't want to buy the cd again can get the extra tracks too. By the way, I accidentally entered my email incorrectly before, so feel free to give me your comments through email. Thanks for listening to the consumer.
September 16, 9:02 PM
16. CHRIS SAID...
Great discussions and points by everyone on all sides. I will start by saying that I am a huge RR fan of many, many bands on this label. Like everyone on this post, I like the special editions too. They do keep getting better and better and harder to resist for somebody that already owns it. Brad and Jeremy are both correct. Why not offer an "upgrade package" for people that bought the original version? This upgrade could include the package, new booklet and Bonus Cd/DVD for discounted rate. Or a special coupon or discounts could be offered to original buyers. There have been several special editions that I have NOT bought because of price, but I would have purchased this way. The fans want RR to show some appreciation and recognize the faithful listeners. I want RR to be profitable and flourish so that we get to keep enjoying the music of so many great artists. But remember without the fans buying the music, they won't be around long.

17. NICK SMITH AKA MOLOTOV SAID...
I agree to some extent the argument regarding Roadrunner and re-releasing shit 6 months, a year, 2 years later with a couple new songs or live stuff/DVD and whatnot. It's kinda shitty to people who bought the original, but then again if others didn't buy it they get it with everything when they get it the first time, or a new fan gets it with everything. I guess I can understand where they're coming from but it's still kinda shitty at times, especially if it's a band you really really like. Personally I just find a way to get the material from someone else I know or online or something, there's always other ways to find this stuff these days long before these kind of releases...
The thing I do appreciate from Roadrunner, though, are those Two From The Vault things they periodically put out. Around here in the Flint, Michigan area it's kind of tough to actually find some of these older releases from bands like Life of Agony, Obituary, Suffocation and so on without these being in stores. It's about the only way I've completed by collection of said bands outside of recent releases from them in stores or burning copies of older material from friends. I personally hate ordering shit from catalogues or online and waiting, so picking up one of those every time and again from older Roadrunner bands is kinda cool in my book....
September 18, 1:17 AM
18. METAL_GUY_777 SAID...
Agreed with Nick on the Two From The Vault re-releases. Bring em back!
As far as the recent re-releases RR should do the best they can to work with the artists to release special editions the same day as the regular editions. This was done to great effect with the last Dream Theater and Opeth releases. If you're a fan of the band, you'll know when their album comes out and if it there will be a special edition of it or not and you'll shell out the couple or even few extra bucks for it.
The Blackening is a phenomenal album. If the price is reasonable this is one of the few recent RR re-releases I might actually buy even though I own the original.

JAMES HETFIELD DIGS MACHINE HEAD'S LATEST ALBUM
Brandon from Revolver Magazine interviewed Metallica's guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield who talked about Machine Head and their latest album, The Blackening, during their chat!
Hetfield: "But this band MACHINE HEAD, the two of the guys who were in VIO-LENCE [frontman Robb Flynn and lead guitarist Phil Demmel], we just did some dates with them over in Europe. And man, I couldn't get enough. It was unbelievable.
Revolver: Yeah, they rule.
Hetfield: They're so heavy, and super-friendly. They get it, and they love it. The last album, The Blackening, unbelievable. Unbelievable sound, power. It sounds like a band on fire. They have really turned it on again for me."
You can check the full interview out here to see how they got into it.

Besides you know the true fans want to hear these unreleased tracks and listen/watch the live footage because they may not be able to afford to go to their show, so when these are released, at least they know how the bands show is.

1. TIM GUSTAFSON SAID...
Let me first say that removing a band shirt at a school just because it has some kind of religious or demonic imagery just goes to show u what kind of ignorant world we live in; im a big machine head fan and let me tell you that bands like these show ,either through lyrics or imagery, the state of this world and how f'ed up it is. For me i wear all kinds of band shirts to work including Testament and Chimaira both of which i am proud to display artwork and dark imagery. I just dont see what the big deal is

I agree. People who are closed minded like that are just as dumb as the perceived dumb people wearing the shit. I'm a musician, I like music, don't care about lyrics. Some people forget it's just music. People who do crazy things do it because they're crazy. Cowboy boots and a dude wearing a pink polo offends me, kick some kids out of school...

9. NICK SMITH AKA MOLOTOV SAID...
These kinds of things are bullshit. I understand when shirts with like "fuck" and "shit" are banned from school, as well as some kinds of sex, drug and alcohol-related shit, but when you ban an anti-war shirt and shit, that kind of shit is just getting stupid...the stuff I said is fairly common, but when you politicize it as in this case, that's when teachers or administrators are just full of shit and are crossing the line. Who the hell are they to say what's offensive and not?
...then again, if you read the story, I dunno if I was the only one, but once I read that it took place in the South (Louisiana), I immediately was like "well, that figures..." (I'm from Michigan, for the record...I guess I just have some bias against the South like that, oh well)
